• A patrician was a member of the wealthy upper-class.

• A plebeian was an ordinary citizen.• Slaves made up about ⅓ of the population.• Slaves came from all across land controlled

• Prior to 367 B.C.E. and The Law of the Twelve Tables, plebeians could not be senators or consuls.

• Patricians gave in to these demands because plebeians refused to fight in Rome’s wars.

• Patricians were becoming increasingly rich, taking over plebeian land and bringing in more slaves—meaning more and more plebeians were unemployed and homeless.
