Concession signal words indicate that the information in one clause is not the result you expect from the information given in the other clause.

Sample assignment
With respect to the two most famous hostesses in Taiwan, Momokoand Regine, both are entertainers with marked influence on society. Shaped bytheir distinct personalities, hosting styles, and pubic images, Regine conveysthe concept of being yourself, while Momoko realizes the value of harmony.More specifically, when it comes to gossip or negative news, Regine rarelyresponds or even ignores them. Especially regarding gender issues, Regineconsiders others’ perceptions to have nothing to do with her happiness. It iscourageous of her to pursue what she wants, which is traditionally regarded asa taboo.

Unlike Regine, Momoko is good at managing relationships with coworkers, celebrities and the press. In her shows, you can see the thoughtfulness in her interactions with the interviewees. As for her private life, she often talks about her family with affection and she cares about her husband’s feelings in public. She is admired for being a perfect woman both in marriage and career. With a pleasant and less controversial nature, she is popular with a wide range of audiences. To sum up,Regine and Momoko contribute different attitudes and values to the public. Whichever you agree with, each type represents a part of real society. Therefore, both are recognized as role models for modern women.
