Andreas was a Blacksmith. Andreas and Elizabeth had two children, Johann Joachim Quantz who was a famous Flautist and Court Musician for King Frederick the Great. Their other son was Jost Matthias Quanz and it is down through his line that I am descended. Johann Joachim Quantz - 1697 - 1773 Johann Joachim Quantz was born on Jan. 30, 1697 in Oberscheden near Gottingen. His father, Andreas Quanz, was a blacksmith who died before Johann was 10 years old. Johann was apprenticed to his Uncle Justus Quantz and served J.A. Fleischhack as a journeyman until 1716 studying many string and wind instruments. For several years he played in local orchestras playing various instruments such as violin, oboe, and flute. His interest in the flute developed. He wrote a treatise "On Playing the Flute" and as well as many musical pieces for the flute. A young Prince Frederick heard Johann Quantz and arranged to have Johann come to the palace twice a year to teach Frederick to play the flute. When Frederick ascended to the throne to become King

Zacharias Quantz

Zacharias Quantz was born October 1623 in Bringhausen, near Hanover, Germany,
and died January 29, 1701 in Oberscheden, Germany. He married Katharina Henze on
August 28, 1649 in Oberscheden, Germany.
Zacharias and Katharina had one son that we know of and his name was Andreas
Quantz.
Andreas Quantz
He was born March 17, 1658 in Oberscheden, Germany, and died April 27, 1707 in
Oberscheden, Germany. He married Elisabeth Beurman on March 1, 1684 in
Oberscheden, Germany. Andreas was a Blacksmith. Andreas and Elizabeth had two
children, Johann Joachim Quantz who was a famous Flautist and Court Musician for King
Frederick the Great. Their other son was Jost Matthias Quanz and it is down through his
line that I am descended.
Johann Joachim Quantz - 1697 - 1773
Johann Joachim Quantz was born on Jan. 30, 1697 in Oberscheden near Gottingen. His
father, Andreas Quanz, was a blacksmith who died before Johann was 10 years old.

Frederick the Great, he had Johann Quantz brought to his court to continue his teaching
and to write flute music for the King. As chief musician to the court of King Frederick the
Great, Johann wrote over 500 music pieces of which 200 were for the flute.
Johann Quantz was tutor, flute player and composer to the court of King Frederick from
1741 until his death in Potsdam on July 12, 1773.
Jost Matthias Quantz
Jost Matthias Quantz was born on March 13, 1686, Oberscheden, Germany. He married
Anna Dorothy Ritter in 1711 in Oberscheden, Germany. His occupation was also as a
Village Musician like his brother Johann. Jost and Anna had a son Johann Rudolf Quantz
who was born on February 8, 1725, in Oberscheden, Germany. He died on June 3, 1772,
in Oberscheden, Germany.
Quantz Emigration to America
Three generations later Georg Theodor Quantz was born in 1805 in Germany and at
some point, we do not know the details yet, he emigrated from Germany to America.
While his family eventually made their way to Arkansas, Georg died in Mt. Pleasant,
Cabarrus County, North Carolina on November 23, 1857.
