•Each state's constitution must do 2 things:

1. separates power between three branches -- legislative, judicial, and executive.

2. Create a democratic form of government based on public election

How Does the U.S. Constitution impact our State Government?

National Government:The Legislative Branch

•Makes laws for the nation.

•The main lawmaking body of this branch is known as Congress.

•Has two parts: the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Ohio Government:The Legislative Branch

•Headed by the General Assembly, which makes state laws.

•Currently, 33 State Representatives

•Currently, 99 State Senators

The General Assembly is made up of two parts.

Our National Government:The Executive Branch

•Enforces the laws in America made by Congress. •Led by POTUS and VPOTUS

•Headed by the Ohio Supreme Court, which interprets and applies the state laws.

The Supreme Court is made up of Six Justices and One Chief Justice.
