Marthe Laura Derkzen CHANGING ROLES OF URBAN GREEN SPACE spatial and temporal dynamics Changing roles of urban green space Marthe Laura Derkzen About the author Marthe Laura Derkzen was born in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. She studied Human Geography and Planning combined with Environmental Science at Utrecht University and received an MSc in Sustainable Development (cum laude) from the same university. Her affiliation with international development led to research stays in Brazil and Indonesia. Back in the Netherlands Marthe joined the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM-VU) as a PhD candidate and became part of the Transitioning towards Urban Resilience and Sustainability (TURAS) project. She collaborated with the City of Rotterdam and was a visiting researcher at Azim Premji University in Ben- galuru, India and the University of Tasmania in Hobart, Australia. She presented at international conferences, organized a photo exhibition about her field work in India and translated her scientific work into a school class experiment. Marthe has a strong interest in interdisciplinary research, nature-based solutions, participation and environmental justice. Marthe is now employed at the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) in The Hague and continues her work in urban social ecology via various organizations in Amsterdam and abroad.
