PAIR Administration Overview  

PAIRAdministrationisanewsetoffunctionalityavailableinPrivatePAIRtoallowuserstoself‐administeranumberofroutineadministrativetasksthatpreviouslyrequiredthesubmissionofaformthatthenrequiredmanualprocessing.WiththenewPAIRAdministrationfunctions,requestswillbeprocessedimmediately.ThisdocumentwillprovideguidanceonhowtosubmitanEntityStatuschangerequestthroughPrivatePAIR.

Steps to Change Entity Status ThefollowingstepswillshowyouhowtochangeyourentitystatusinPrivatePAIR.

PAIR Main Search Screen  

1. FromthePrivatePAIRSelectNewCasepage,youcaneithersearchbyApplicationNumberunderSearchforApplicationorbyCustomerNumberunderSearchbyCustomerNumbertoviewthecontentsoftheapplication.

2. OntheApplicationDatatab,nexttoEntityStatus,theuserwillselect“Update”

Submit an Entity Status Change Request  

1. OntheChangeEntityStatuspagetheApplicationNumber,Title,AttorneyDocket#,andCurrentEntityStatuswillbelistedatthetopofthepage.

2. Selecttheupdatedentitystatus

a. Applicantcertifyingmicroentitystatus.See37CFR1.29.i. GrossIncomeBasisii. InstituteofHigherEducationBasis

b. Applicantassertingsmallentitystatus.See37CFR1.27.c. Applicantchangingtoregularundiscountedfeestatus.

Note:Thesystemwillnotallowthecurrententitystatusoftheapplicationtobeselected.

d. Ifidentifyingmicroentitystatus,acertificationisrequired.Checktheboxnexttothe

appropriatecertification.

i. Thecertificationofmicroentitystatusbasedongrossincomebasisismadebycheckingthisboxandsigningbelow.

ii. Thecertificationofmicroentitystatusbasedonemploymentbyaninstitutionofhighereducationismadebyselectingtheappropriatecheckbox.

1. Certificationonthebasisofemploymentbyaninstitutionofhighereducation

2. Certificationonthebasisofassignmentorobligationtoassigntoaninstitutionofhighereducation

3. Atthebottomofthepage,certifyinaccordancewith37CFR1.4(d)(4)thatyouareoneofthefollowing

a. ForRegisteredPractitioners:

i. AnattorneyoragentregisteredtopracticebeforethePatentandTrademarkOfficewhohasbeengivenpowerofattorneyinthisapplication.

ii. AnattorneyoragentregisteredtopracticebeforethePatentandTrademarkOffice,actinginarepresentativecapacity.

b. ForIndependentInventors:

i. Asoleinventor.ii. Ajointinventor;IcertifythatIamauthorizedtosignthissubmissiononbehalfof

alltheinventorsasevidencedbythepowerofattorneyintheapplication.iii. Ajointinventor;allofwhomaresigningthisentitystatuschange.

1. Uponselecting“Ajointinventor;allofwhomaresigningthisentitystatuschange”,userswillbeabletoaddupto9additionalinventorsignaturerows.

4. Completetherequiredsignatoryandpointofcontactinformationa. S‐Signatureb. Namec. RegistrationNumber(onlyapplicabletoregisteredpractitioners)

i. Registrationnumberwillbeauto‐filledbasedonthePKIcertificateholderd. PointofContactInformation

i. Nameii. TelephoneNumberiii. EmailAddress

5. Oncetheformiscomplete,youcanPreviewyourrequestforsubmission,Savetherequestforlatersubmission,orReturntotheMainPrivatePAIRBrowser.

a. Uponsavingtherequest,therequestwillbeavailableforsevencalendardaysonthemainPAIRscreenunderPAIRAdministrationandViewSavedandCompletedRequests.Iftherequestisnotsubmittedwithinsevencalendardays,therequestwillbedeleted.

b. UponselectingPreview,thesystemwillchecktoensureallrequiredfieldshavebeencompleted.Ifrequireddataisomitted,anerrormessagewillbedisplayedinformingtheuserwhatinformationismissing.Theusermustcorrectallvalidationerrorsinordertosubmittherequest.

c. UponselectingtoReturntotheMainPrivatePAIRbrowser,theChangeEntityStatuswindowwillcloseandtheuserwillreturntoPrivatePAIR.Pleasenotethatallunsaveddatawillbelost.

6. OnthePreviewscreen,youwillbegiventhechancetoreviewalldataentered,returntothedataentrypagetoedityourrequest,orsubmittherequesttotheUSPTO.

7. Oncetherequestisprocessed,theuserwillbepresentedwithaconfirmationscreenindicatingthattheentitystatushasbeensuccessfullychanged.

8. ArecordofthechangerequestwillbeenteredintotheIFWandnotedintheTransactionHistory

tab.

View Saved and Completed Requests Screen Byusingthe“ViewSavedandCompletedRequests”search,PrivatePAIRuserswillbeabletoretrievepreviouslysavedrequestsforuptosevendaysandsubmittedrequestsforuptothepast90days.

Toviewtherequest,clickontheRequestIDhyperlink,andtherequestwillopen.
