What are Championships?• SkillsUSA Championships showcase the

best career and technical students.

• Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels.

How do I get started?• Look at the contest list on the SkillsUSA

Georgia website (skillsusagerogia.org) and the Technical Standards.

• Mark the contest that you want to participate in. Remember to check the Technical standards for curriculum alignment.

How do I get started?• Start locally.

– Hold mini contest in your classroom.

• Participate in your Region Championship.

• Participate in State Leadership & Skills Conference.

What contests occur when?• Local (your classroom)

– This can start day one of class.

– Start promoting SkillsUSA ASAP.• Check the SkillsUSA Georgia website for

events (Fall Leadership, Rally, Region, State)

What contest occur when?• Region

– Time: Sometime in February

– Place: Check the SkillsUSA Georgia website (skillsusageorgia.org)

– Events: There are several events listed for region on the SkillsUSA Georgia website

What contest occurs when?• Region Continued:

– First & Second Place winners continue to state

– If a student does not place first or second, they can participate in State contest

– A state contest is a contest that is not offered at region but is offered at SLSC.

• 2 Types of Contest: National & Georgia

What contest occurs when?• State Contest Continued

– What is the difference between National & Georgia only Contest?

• National = Contest held on the National level, contest guidelines are located in the Technical Standards and 1st place winners from the SLSC will advance to the National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC).

– What is the difference between National & Georgia only Contest?

• Georgia only = Contest is only held at the SLSC. Contestants do not advance to the NLSC. Contest guidelines are located on the skillsusageorgia.org website.

Where do I find contest information?• Region:

– The Technical Standards is where you’ll find information about the contest.

– Your Region Chairperson will send out registration in late October or early November.

• Remember to check the SkillsUSA Georgia website for more information.

Where do I find contest information?• State Contest

– National: The technical Standards have all the information you need. You can also go to the National SkillsUSA website (skillsusa.org)

– Georgia: Information can be found on the SkillsUSA Georgia website.

• Remember, students who place first in Georgia only contest DO NOT go to Nationals.

What can may students compete in?• Students can participate in occupationally

related, skilled and technical sciences and leadership development contests.

What can my students compete in?• Occupationally Related

– Events that students of all trades can compete in.

• An example would be related and technical math. We all teach math in our classrooms.

What can my students compete in?• Skilled and Technical Sciences

– These are events that are program specific.• An example would be Graphic

Communications. Students who participate in this are graphics students.

– Students for all programs can participate. Examples would be Job Interview and Job Skill Demonstration.
