    Winter 2012 lvchambervoices.com

I was honored to be elected as president of ChamberVoices Toastmasters.During our meeting when I heard my name announced asone of the nominees for president, I was humbled. OnceI was elected as the president and it started to sink in, Ibecame nervous. Being a person who always wants toexceed at everything that is presented to me in life, I mostcertainly want to do my best as president.

So far, my role as the president has not been difficultbecause at Chamber Voices we have an incredible teamof officers and members who all support each other! Wework very well together on upcoming meetings, mentoringnew members, and on various contests.Never less, I do have to live up to the reputation of theclub. After all, how many other clubs have earned thehighest honor available in the past eight years? Yes,that's right. Chamber Voices earned President'sDistinguished Club for eight years in a row! Our club hasalso founded seven other Toastmasters Clubs over thepast 13 years.

I am thrilled and honored to serve my club as President. After all, I am a member of one of the most positive andeffective organizations. I encourage everyone to join andsee what I am talking about. It will definitely be a lifechanging experience.

Ever wonder who makes the best prospects forToastmasters? Is there really anyone who wouldntbenefit from this organization? Consider the person whoneeds to speak occasionally on the job, yet feels like they

are ready to faint every time they do. How about thegentleman you know who isnt nervous about speaking, but who lacks organization or the charisma to draw in hisaudience? There are folks who are called upon to runimpromptu meetings or maybe you know a stay-at-homemom who was just elected as PTO (Parent-TeacherOrganization) President. Have you seen the teacher whostumbles over her words while meeting with parents atFamily Night? Think about people you personally know orwork with who could learn from Toastmasters.

The truth is that EVERYONE can benefit from joiningToastmasters. New participants quickly learn that theyare not just attending meetings where they watch people

give speeches. Toastmasters is intentionally designedNOT to be a spectators sport. All members are given theopportunity to become engaged in each and everymeeting whether it be in a leadership role such asEvaluator, Timer or Ah Counter, or as a Table Topicsspeaker. Members learn that they need to step up to theplate when needed. Situations arise causing a memberwho planned to speak or to fill a role to miss a meeting.Toastmasters learn that these moments are newopportunities to stretch and practice their skills withoutprior preparation. Everyone can find room to improve atToastmasters no matter what the experience level whichexplains why there are many longtime members whobelong to several clubs. What used to be the dreadedtransforms into the most unexpected addiction.

I never thought only two short years ago that I would evenconsider Toastmasters. Someone cared enough to inviteme and now I cant get enough of the experience! I amgaining so much more from Toastmasters than I evenunderstood was possible. So who could YOU bring toToastmasters? Do you know people? Of course you do.Do you understand how they could benefit fromToastmasters? Absolutely. What is keeping you frominviting them to visit our next meeting? Nothing at all.Lets not hide this wonderful opportunity from others.Lets share the secret of Toastmasters with those we

    encounter this week!

Prior to chiropractic school, I would have never imaginedthat public speaking would play such a tremendous role inmy career. Like many, I thought chiropractic was aboutneck and low back pain for adults only. Little did I know thatchiropractic is really about your nervous system, which isthe master system governing all functions in your body.Ever wonder how your heart continues to beat automaticallywithout you reminding it to beat day in and day out? If yournervous system is this important, why is there not morepeople taking the time to get a spinal check up to makesure that everything is working at its best? Would you waittill all your teeth fall out before you visit a dentist? Of coursenot! Chiropractic is about your overall health and well-being.Prevention is the key to optimal health because a dollarspent on prevention saves thousands (even millions!) ofdollars later from finding a cure.

Knowing all of this, I soon realized that educating the publicas well as my patients is the key to my success in buildingmy practice. The word doctor is derived from Latin, meaning, "to teach." How am I, "to teach," if one of mybiggest fears was public speaking? Growing up I've alwaysbeen a bit timid, shy, and most of all quiet. How am I goingto gather up the courage to speak up and share my

message if I was too scared to do so? THANKGOODNESS FOR TOASTMASTERS! Luckily, shortlybefore graduating from school, I found a very friendly, supportive Toastmasters group. By signing up for aspeaking role every meeting, it helped me to control myanxiety in front of the audience.

In the past few years, public speaking has opened severaldoors for me in business. Had I not had the support that Ihad from Toastmasters, I don't know how I'd be where I amtoday. It is such a big part of my success and I am sothankful to have found it. I believe that it plays a role ineveryone's businesses; therefore, I continue to share it withas many people as possible. Toastmasters has changed

my life and I know it will continue to change the lives ofthousands around the world. Pay it forward and shareToastmasters with a friend!
