The Brownwood Rotary Club is pleased to announce that this year’s annual Holiday Arts & Crafts Show (to be held on Saturday and Sunday, November 13 and 14) will have a new component added to the event: Corvettes. Rotary Club member Laura Terhune, Chairman of the Arts & Crafts Show, stated, “Each year, as we set up for the show, we create aisles for the vendors, draping off the extra space around the perime- ter of the coliseum. This year, we decided to do something with that wasted space that would be fun and interesting for the attendees of the show.” Terhune noted, “I am working with Wayne Creel and the Heartland Cruisers. Wayne and I thought it would be fun to have a couple of Corvettes from each of the past decades—a total of 10-12 cars in all.” Most of the cars will be inside the coliseum with 2 or 3 in the parking lot to catch the attention of passing drivers. Vendors from the Brownwood area and other parts of the Central Texas area will be set up in the front portion of the coliseum with the car show toward the back. According to Terhune, there are still a few vendor spaces available, but she expects they will all be filled by show date. Terhune added, “We have plenty of jewelry vendors but there are also clothing, metal art, crosses, wood crafts and much more.” A unique feature of the Holiday Arts & Crafts Show is that the Rotary Club gives away a television to a lucky attendee. Each person who pays the admission of $2 will receive an entry form to enter the drawing. In addition, attendees receive additional entry forms with each purchase during the show. The drawing is held just before the end of the show on Sunday after- noon. Terhune concluded, “The timing couldn’t be better for early holiday shopping. Now, folks can also enjoy a fun Corvette show.” Show hours are Sat. 10-5 and Sun. 11-4. As the holiday shopping seasonapproaches, local businesses are look-ing for their busiest time of year.

The Brownwood and EarlyChambers of Commerce want toremind area residents that they canmake a difference in keeping the localeconomy strong by spending theirshopping dollars at home. They arelaunching a holiday shop-at-homecampaign this year once again called“Keep the Home Fires Burning”. Thecampaign is designed to raise aware-ness of the importance of keeping localdollars local and how it affects public

services, local business, jobs, and com-munity activities.

“Each time you make a local pur-chase, you support local jobs,” saidLaura Terhune, Director for theBrownwood Chamber. “Duringtougher times like these, spendingthose dollars at home makes an evengreater impact on the local economy.”

Terhune said sales tax that is gener-ated by local purchases goes to fundimportant city departments such as fire, police, parks, library, and senior servic-es. Businesses also support and spon-sor local events and activities that

make Brown County a great place tolive.

“We realized that not everything isavailable in Brown County stores, butwe want to encourage local shoppers tolook here first before making a trip outof town,” said Early Chamber DirectorWanda Furgason. “Shoppers will oftensave time and money by shoppinglocally instead of taking a long trip.”

Residents can expect to see and hearlocal advertising in the coming weeksthrough a variety of sources to height-en awareness of the importance ofshopping locally.
