When the guests arrived at top floor of Kean University’s new STEM building (Science,Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) June 28, they got a taste of Elizabeth, along with the views. Hosted by GoElizabethNJ the purpose of the lunch event was to introduce the GoElizabethNJ’s Official Visitor’s Guide and the Restaurant Guide. Lunch was hosted by several Elizabeth restaurants offering samples of their best dishes. The Restaurant Guide was sponsored by TD Bank. The event was also an opportunity to announce the annual Taste of Elizabeth, October 24, and the following Restaurant Week, October 25 to 30. Assemblywoman Annette Quijano addressed the crowd, saying, “I am so excited about the restaurant guide. It is a great book to share with family and friends. Everyone who comes to Newark Airport sees Elizabeth. They shouldn’t just drive through. They should stay.” Mayor Christian Bollwage challenged the crowd to visit every restaurant in the guide, “Everyone who eats at all the restaurants in the guide, then they can have lunch with me.” That’s a challenge easy to take up. Likewise, taking a large portion off the power grid reduces
demand and lower costs for the general public, too. It alsolessens the threat of power outrages that plague power plantsand their customers during peak demand periods.

HOLIDAY SOCIALLocation: To be announcedShare your holiday cheer with your fellow GECC members at this fun, annual event.
Many times on these pages wehave talked about the importance ofa strong business environment to ahealthy community. In this issue, thatwas illustrated by our cover story.
The June 28 event at KeanUniversity was more than theintroduction of a visitor’s and arestaurant guide. It was a celebrationof an achievement: the collaborationof many partners sharing the goal ofpromoting Elizabeth.
The GECC worked alongside theN.J. Department of Travel & Tourism, the Greater Newark Convention &
Visitors Bureau, Brick CityDevelopment Corporation, The Star-Ledger, and TD Bank to develop theguides. They are more than justbooks. They are show pieces forwhat we have to offer. They are atestament to our hard work andcommitment to our community. Wehave a lot to be proud of and it is timewe let those outside of our city knowabout us.
For the reminder of the year, we
will have that chance to put our bestfoot forward, beginning with theannual dinner cruise. If you haven’tmade your reservations yet, don’twait a moment longer.
The following month, we hope tosee you at the Taste of Elizabeth orat one -- or all -- of the restaurantsparticipating in Restaurant Week. Wehope to see you shopping at the mall.We definitely want to wish youseasons’ greeting at our holiday
social.
All these events are celebrationsof what we have accomplished byworking together.
See you soon.

Jersey Gardens Mall Installs Energy-SavingSolar Panels on Its Rooftop
Jersey Gardens Mall, the state'slargest outlet mall with 1.3 million
square feet of leasable space, unveiledthe first of 15,000 energy-saving,
rooftop solar panels at a ribbon-cuttingceremony, June 28. The T5 Solar Roof
Tile is the first non-penetrating rooftopproduct combining a high-efficiency
solar panel, frame, and mountingsystem into a single, pre-engineeredunit. One of the largest single-roof top
solar systems in North America, it willgenerate enough power to offset
11 percent of the electrical consump-tion of the mall. The project, which was
begun in February, was completed inAugust 2011.
Glimcher Realty Trust, a real estateinvestment trust that owns JerseyGardens, entered into a power
purchase agreement with Clean FocusCorporation who financed and owns the
system. All solar renewable energy
credits and environmental benefitsassociated with the system will be
owned by Clean Focus. JerseyGardens buys the electricity at a
predetermined, predictable price,providing a long-term hedge against
rising power prices with no initialcapital investment.
The addition of the solar array wasmade possible through the partnership
with Gerding Edlen Development andits subsidiary Gerding EdlenSustainable Solutions. Gerding Edlen
Development is a full service real estateinvestment, development, and asset
management firm with experience insustainable development, renewable
energy, and creative financingstructures.
The Jersey Gardens solar systemwas designed, installed, and will bemaintained by SunPower Corporation.
