ABOUT THE WORKSHOP At the heart of “Explore|Invite|Engage” is the invitation to reclaim and strengthen an improvisatory spirit of making music together. From practice—where we sharpen skills and deepen our understanding of the score—to performance, how do we create experiences that celebrate musical experimentation, discovery and community? Imagine fewer boundaries in the process; as we move from first readings to formed interpretations, we will engage players, coaches, composers, and listeners. All participants are encouraged to adopt an open-door policy for rehearsals and coaching, creating a welcoming 'insider' experience for interested community members. The week’s final concert will take place in the Unitarian Universalist Church on the Harvard Town Common. Ensembles will choose their own repertoire and articulate their own goals. The daily schedule includes group rehearsals and coaching, and the week will feature improvisation and movement workshops, public master classes, evening sight-reading parties, and other special events. To view the full schedule, please visit: harvardculture.org/cmf-schedule. PARTICIPANTS Full scholarship will be granted to four young professional ensembles, who attend for the full week. Participating ensembles (pre-formed groups strongly preferred) may be 2-6 players, comprised of strings and piano (in any combination), possibly including one or two winds (no all-wind groups). Participants must be 18 or older. Adult amateur groups are welcome to apply for a day or days of their choice ($150 per musician per day, lunch and dinner included). Space is available for two adult amateur groups each day. ABOUT THE COACHES With chamber music at the center of their musical endeavors, Judith Eissenberg, Rhonda Rider, and Judith Gordon bring enthusiastic fluency to the full range of the literature—exploring the classical European tradition as well as working with living composers from diverse backgrounds. All three have collaborated with a wide range of soloists and ensembles and have long enjoyed playing together in various combinations. Along with pursuing independent performance projects, each has remained committed to teaching and coaching throughout their professional lives. Learn more at harvardculture.org/cmf-coaches. HOUSING & MEALS Lunch and dinner are communal events for all participants—an essential part of the workshop. All meals include fresh produce, and are prepared locally. Young professional participants are hosted by members of the community (breakfasts included). Participants in amateur groups are responsible for their own housing.
