Jones is currently the Executive Board President of the Center for Racial Harmony. He is originally from McGehee, Arkansas and is an alumnus of the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1984 and began work as a Logistics Engineer

for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, Missouri. Following the merger of McDonnell Douglas with the Boeing Aerospace Corporation, he continued work as a business analyst until his retirement in 2005.

During his careers both in the Air Force and at Boeing, he served on various diversity panels addressing discrimination in its many forms. He has been president of the board at the Center for Racial Harmony since 2010 and has been an active volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters since 1971.

He is married to Paula Jones, a founding member of the Center for Racial Harmony. His two sons are both graduates of Belleville Public schools and Illinois Universities. He enjoys golf and alpine skiing during his leisure. As a member of the Board of Directors of the Belleville Chamber of Commerce, he intends to be an advocate for “Racial Harmony,” both as an organization and as a principle by which we live.

McManus is the Chief Operating Officer at Memorial Hospital. He joined Memorial in 2012 after serving in the same capacity for Touchette Regional Hospital.

A graduate of University of Missouri – Columbia, McManus is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and is active on the Gibault School Board and with his church. McManus and his wife, Sue – a nurse at Memorial – reside in Waterloo. The couple has three daughters.

The Chamber welcomes two new members to their Board of Directors, Jerril Jones, Center for Racial Harmony, and Mike McManus, Memorial Hospital. We look forward to seeing the various expertise you have to contribute to our 28 member Board of Directors.

In May 1958, Memorial Hospital opened its doors to the Belleville community with a plan to become the area’s healthcare leader. And our commitment to Belleville and this region remains deeply rooted.

With the hospital as a strong foundation, we’ve continued to evolve by adding cutting-edge technology and top-notch physicians. From the Memorial Care Center, Memorial Medical Group and The Orthopedic and Neurosciences Center, our network is connected to provide the patients we serve with seamless, high-quality care in all of our communities.

In 2016, we look forward to opening Memorial Hospital East in Shiloh, a state-of-the-art facility that will more than satisfy the healthcare needs of the communities we serve as well as provide easier access to our patients to the north and east. This is just one of many stages of growth for The Memorial Network as we look to the future of healthcare.

Signal Hill District 181In the Fall of 2011, Signal Hill School went through a Health/Life Safety ten year survey with their architect firm, EWR Associates, Inc. After the results of the survey, the Board of Education and Superintendent met many hours and made plans for a long-term solution to the school. Many improvements and repairs were made, including new Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) in the community center and cafeteria during the Fall of 2012. This began a two-phase process of a major renovation process of the 1954 building.

In July, 2013, the Board of Education was able to sell Health/Life Safety bonds to fund all the improvement projects while still lowering the tax rates of residents. During the Summer of 2014 most of the renovations took place including asbestos abatement, new HVAC, new tile floors, new ceilings, new lighting, painting, new entry doors to office, and new camera system.

The entire project will be finished the summer of 2015 with the completion of the asbestos abatement and new tile in the cafeteria. The staff, administration and Board of Education are extremely proud of the improvements and hope you have all had a chance to visit and enjoy.

Signal Hill Celebrates 50 Years of Musicals!

This year marks the 50th anniversary for musicals at Signal Hill School. Ironically, it’s the 50th anniversary

for Mary Poppins and Signal Hill eighth graders will be performing the musical for the first time. The musical is part of the curriculum and required for eighth graders. It is an important and very supported tradition at SHS.

Signal Hill Education Foundation is hosting a Play Preview Party April 25th at The Abbey at 6:00 where

students will perform bits of the musical. Mary Poppins will be performed at Signal Hill on May 7th and 8th. Come celebrate 50 years of tradition at Signal Hill!!

“For the last 10 years, Eye on Design has had the privilege of creating one of a kind custom window treatments for thousands of homes and businesses,” said Jennaver Brown, co-owner. “We are so glad to share our celebration by helping young people in our area learn from professional artists how to create their own work of art.”

Artists in Residence is a community outreach program sponsored by the Art on the Square Show. Each year, Artists visit local schools during the week preceding the show to spend the day demonstrating their particular medium and often working with the students to create art.

“At Eye on Design, our job is to create beautiful and functional window dressings to enhance the lives of our clients,” said Brown. “We hope that our partnership with the Artists in Residence Program will help foster creativity in students and help spark a life long interest in art and design by bringing art to the classrooms that do not have a regular curriculum.”

Jennaver and her husband Gordon Brown, who heads the installation department, started Eye on Design in 2005 with a mission to create custom options for their clients to help meet specific goals for energy efficiency, light control, ultra violet protection, privacy and design.

Headquartered in downtown Belleville, Eye on Design has grown to become the region’s largest, most comprehensive Window Design Gallery showcasing the premier collection of Hunter Douglas window fashions and custom drapery which are handcrafted onsite in its own drapery fabrication shop. Their dedication for providing innovative solutions has earned them a top reputation in the industry that now boasts a strong local base of clients, but also national accounts in the hotel and insurance industry.

“From our first window treatment at a home on the West end of Belleville to now covering tens of thousands of windows at corporate headquarters all across America, we have been truly fortunate,” said Brown. “We feel it is only right that we continue to give back as we continue to grow.”

In addition to supporting the arts, Eye on Design has been dedicated to keeping the environment beautiful as well. Since 2005, it has recycled or re-purposed and estimated 10,000 pounds of old window treatments through its Project RENEW window treatment recycling program. Special events are being planned throughout the year. For more details, check the Eye on Design Website at www.eod4u.com or Facebook page.

SCOTT CREDIT UNION WINS TWO STATE AWARDSAmerican Cancer Society Event, Edwardsville Children’s Museum Financial Education Display Garner RecognitionScott Credit Union has garnered awards in two categories of the Illinois Credit Union League’s annual state-wide awards competition. The local credit union won the top prize in a category focused on social responsibility and garnered an honorable mention for youth financial education. Scott Credit Union won the first place award in the $500 million to $1 billion asset categories for its effort to raise $86,000 as the host and presenting sponsor for the ACS Mardi Gras Ball fund raiser event held at Lewis and Clark in Godfrey in March of 2014. The annual Mardi Gras Ball event featured an elegant dinner, live and silent auctions, and entertainment.

“We were extremely proud and honored to have been asked to help support this event,” said SCU Community Relations Supervisor Jennifer Hess. “It’s exciting for us to get this award and the recognition for this effort with the American Cancer Society.”

“Our team of employees at Scott Credit Union is incredible,” Hess added. “About 60 of our employees worked really hard to make this event successful. We are honored to receive this state-wide award to recognize all of that hard work.”

Scott Credit Union also received an honorable mention award for its partnership with the Edwardsville Children’s Museum to create a financial institution exhibit to help teach children about money.

The exhibit, which looks like a Scott Credit Union location, features an interactive story that asks children to choose what to do with the money that SCU mascot Scotty the Dog made at a doggy treat back sale. They can choose to spend, share or save the money. The exhibit also features a coin identification activity, an ATM with play money, checks and a checkbook ledger, a vault where children can deposit money, and an iPad with financial education activities.

Representatives from Scott Credit Union will be recognized at the keynote and awards program during the Credit Union League’s Annual Convention this spring in Schaumburg, Ill.
