ABOUT THE PARENT GUIDEBOOK

The parent element of the program includes four ways to enhance learning and support parenting.

Use the guide themes as a framework for making parenting choices - The reflection questions and exercises give you the chance to be conscious and intentional about the lessons you want to share and values you want to instill in your daughter’s life.

Practice Self-Improvement - By focusing on changes you can make in your own life related to the things your daughter is exploring, she learns valuable tools by witnessing the example you set.

Open Door Opportunities - Each quest introduces some challenging emotions and topics for your daughter to explore in a gentle way. These introductions provide doors of opportunity for you to address difficult feelings and situations.

Offer Behind-the-Scenes support - With increased awareness of what she’s learning, you can support your daughter by offering acknowledgement, praise and reinforcement for the changes she makes.

ABOUT THE JOURNEY

The Chakra Girls Empowerment Program is organized into seven quests across seven themes, with beginning and concluding challenges. Each quest is designed to take place across one week.

All quests contain four parts, each building on the next to support the complexity of learning:

Discover - Questions and exercises to promote self-discovery, identify talents, address challenges, explore emotions and build strategies

Explore - Hands-on projects to take the concepts further and apply knowledge

Reflect - Questions and ideas to develop metacognition and extend learning to real-world situations

Share - Questions and ideas to share knowledge to help improve the world and integrate learning for oneself

PROGRAM ORIENTATION

QUESTS OVERVIEW

Step 1: Reflect and set goals and intentions Before you begin each quest, take time to review the concepts, do the reflection questions and gain clarity on your goals and intentions around each theme.

Step 2: Plan ahead for project supplies (optional) Depending on how much of a planner you are and what supplies you already have, you may want to have your daughter look through the Explore section of the quest at the beginning of the week to see what, if any, supplies you’ll need for the challenge(s).

Step 3: Discover These questions and exercises can be completed all at once or across a number of days.

Step 4: Explore Depending on time you have available, choose one, two, or all of these hands-on projects to complete the quest.

Step 5: Reflect Revisit what she learned and use these prompts as conversation starters to help your daughter remember important skills, tools and strategies.

Step 6: Share Facilitate your daughter creating the steps of her action plan to share her knowledge. Make sure to define a specific time this will be carried out to teach accountability.

Step 7: Crystal Card Your daughter will be guided to write things she wants to remember about each quest on the back of the Crystal Card and place it in her Confidence Toolkit to symbolize completing the quest.

Weekend Warrior Best for: busy families, many afterschool activities, traditional schooling

Tips & Time Estimates: Discover - Do a couple of the questions each night or all on one evening that nothing else is planned (approx. 1 hour total) Explore - Choose one of the three challenges to complete (1-3 hours) Reflect - Complete this at the same time as the Crystal Card by writing the ideas from

this section onto the back of the crystal card (15 minutes) Share - Choose an idea and plan a time to carry it out in the future (varies by choice)

Now that you’ve chosen your route, it’s time to get organized about when you’ll do each quest. Here’s a sample calendar for how the program can be completed across eight, consecutive weeks:

Notes: • Map out your plan onto the calendar you already use to organize your family’s schedule,

• You don’t need to do the quests on consecutive weeks, but to maximize learning, the ideais to spend one week on each theme

• The quests were designed to be done in order from red to purple. Yet, you can also chooseto do them in order of interest or need and experience the same benefits.

Prepare MINDSET TIPS

1. Keep an Open-Mind

Practice keeping your mind open to what your daughter discoversand reserve any judgments that come up about how she should dothings or how you’d like the experience to go. Practice allowing herto guide the flow of where the discoveries lead her.

2. Set Goals and Intentions, not Expectations

Use the goals and intentions worksheets to gain clarity around whatactionable steps you’ll take to support your daughter’s learning. Andthen, release expectations for what the outcome will be.

3. Every Effort Counts

Remember that everything you’re doing throughout this journey iscontributing to your daughter’s healthy self-development. You DONOT have to do everything perfectly in order to be successful.

4. Be PresentPractice being present in the moment when you’re engaged in theseexplorations with your daughter. This helps her see that you valuethis kind of learning and helps you ‘focus on the journey, not thedestination’.

5. Have Fun!

Allow yourself to have fun and enjoy the adventure too. Takingyourself and the experience less seriously will also maximize thelearning.

Prepare SHARING TIPS

1. Let Her Lead

Allow your daughter to guide the flow of how long you spend oneach part and what projects are chosen.

2. Balance Independence and Collaboration

Depending on your daughter’s age, learning style and personality,there are different ways to create this balance. For example, she mayprefer to do the Discover section on her own and some of theprojects on her own. You can balance this with some collaborationon projects and/or do the Share activity as a family.

3. Share and Participate

Share your responses to the questions and offer anecdotes abouthow you’ve experienced different feelings and situations throughoutyour life. Even if your daughter is seemingly non-responsive, she’llhear that you’re open to talking about emotions, expressingvulnerabilities and also feeling pride for your strengths and talents.

4. Use a Casual Tone

Think ‘anti-lecture’, use a conversational tone and remember your‘Have Fun’ mindset!

5. Ask Open-Ended Questions

Use questions that require more than a yes or no answer to expandthe potential for conversation and help your daughter feel safe torespond truthfully. For example, instead of asking, ‘Do you ever feelangry?’, ask ‘What are some things that make you feel angry?’

OVERVIEW Begin

You’re ready to welcome your daughter to the journey and get started with the beginning challenge!

Time Estimate: 30 minutes to 1+ hour

Everything you need is inside the Travel Documents Folder.

Step 1: Welcome Letter

Here’s where your daughter will learn about the journey, why she’s taking it and have her first introduction to the Chakra Girls as her guides along the way.

Step 2: What’s in a Quest?

Here she’ll learn about the different parts of the quests and the Crystal Cards she’ll gain when she completes each quest.

Step 3: Devi’s Challenge Part 1

Confidence Toolkit

This beginning activity gives your daughter a chance to take ownership over the experience right from the start as she creates a space to collect tangible ways to remember and access all the inner tools she gains.

Letter to Self

Your daughter will be guided to write her future self a letter to act as a

time capsule which she’ll have a chance to revisit at the end of her journey.

This concluding activity gives your daughter a way to gather all the tools she’s

developed for managing her moods and bring them together into something tangible she can access when she needs.

Plan your Celebration

Honor all the exploration and growth by planning a party and/or ritual to

celebrate. Ideas and inspiration are included. Yet, your daughter’s intuition is the best guide for planning this event.

Step 2: Look through Confidence Toolkit Your daughter will also be guided to take some time to look through all of her Crystal

Cards and souvenirs as a way of reflecting on the experience overall.

Step 3: Read Letter to Self

Next, she’ll open up the mini-time capsule and see how much she’s grown.
