There is a strong tradition of excellent pianists at King’s and many have progressed to study the piano at renowned conservatoires. Pianists at King’s are privilleged to perform in a varity of concerts held in Rochester Cathedral and alongside world renowned pianists. King’s Rochester offers a number of exciting opportunities for pianists, including access to the 7’6” Bechstein Grand piano which was unveiled in December 2018. There is a strong tradition of excellent pianists at King’s: A recent alumnus has progressed to study the piano at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, having taken the opportunity of playing two concerto movements in Rochester Cathedral, accompanied by the Orchestra Roffensis.

The Chadlington Piano Scholarship offers £10,000 remission towards fees and piano lessons per annum, with the possibility of further means-tested remission.

The successful candidate’s duties will include an annual performance for a charity, in line with the school’s ethos towards helping and inspiring the wider community.

This scholarship is only available to external applicants for entry in September 2020.

Remove (Year 9) Entry

This award serves to develop the talents of an aspiring pianist who is playing at Grade 6 level or above. Applicants must include one piece of JS Bach from an examination board list in their audition. The successful candidate will set goals towards achieving the higher grades in piano as they progress through the school.

Sixth form (Year 12) Entry

Applications are invited from pianists at Grade 8 ABRSM standard or equivalent who are interested in developing their skills under the guidance of our expert piano teachers. Applicants must include one piece of JS Bach from an examination board list in their audition. The successful candidate will be given guidance and opportunities towards developing their playing to the highest level, including working towards a performance diploma. Guidance and tuition will also be provided towards conservatoire or university auditions as appropriate.
