PUBLISHER’SNOTEBism Allah Al-Rahman Al-RaheemIn the Name of Allah, the MostGracious, the Most Merciful

Assalaamu Alaykum Wa RahmatullahWa Barakatu May the peace andmercy of Allah Subhana Wa Ta’alabe on you

Dear ReadersAs we enter into the final days of Ramadaan 1435, I am very happy to launch our first Ramadaan Edition to all ourMuslim readers and clients, which algamdullilah (thank you) has been blessed with great content and wonderfulsponsors.

To our Non-Muslim readers this edition is a guide to show you how your Muslim family/neighbour celebrates the month of Ramadaan.

I chose the theme of unity which clearly indicates the vision of the CFL Magazine to include all ethnic groups, religions and people from all walks of life that make the Cape Flats such a wonderful place to be.

During Ramadaan, we are able to experience a tremendous amount of unity, which in turn, strengthens our Imaan(belief) and makes us better people. With Ramadaan ending it is very common for this unity to dissolve. Sadly, when that happens we lose the strength we gained. Unity is veryimportant, not only in Islam, but in humanity. We must all stick together, in order to achieve a greater good, all for sake of our creator. None of us are perfect, but when we work with others, we collaborate into greatness. This does not only apply to our Muslim brothers and sisters, but also for our brothers and sisters in humanity.

Finally, I hope you all enjoy this edition. May you all have a safe, blessed, and wonderful Eid-ul-Fitr, Insha-Allah.

Please continue to send us emails, comments, andmessages on social media, as they are all very helpful toconstructing a magazine to suit your needs.

Advertisers come on board by advertising with the CFLMagazine - Let us do your marketing for you. Readers submit your subscription online and get the magazine delivered to your doorstep. Your continuous support will allow thismagazine to reach greater heights.

May Allah grant all our dua’s (prayers) made for us and by us, Insha-Allah.

Until next time ….

I Deserve It(Help Me, Help You)

1. Who is the founder of I Deserve It?Amiena Adams Pastor

2. How did it come about? As a bridal fashion designer and entrepreneur, mybusiness suffered a great loss. I struggled to get mybusiness back on track as my desire to work was gone.A few months went by when a friend told me to join her for a massage, but I was two-minded to go as I did not have the funds for this treat. My husband offered to pay for the massage, however, on the day of the massage, my daughter told me that she needed new school shoes. Of course, I felt guilty but I had already booked and paid for the massage, which could not be refunded. During the massage, I struggled to relax as all I could think about was the school shoes my daughter needed. Eventually I calmed myself byrepetitively telling myself that “I deserve this..I deserve it…” I started to say this out loud and my friend, enjoying her massage next to me, affirmed what I was telling myself. That evening I came home after my massage and told my husband about my experience. I felt that every woman needed to spoil or pamper themselves. But how often do we do this when our first thought is to provide for our families.Women, in general, will only spoil themselves if they earn their own income. Thus I felt the need to start an organisation that would give women an opportunity to earn and thus had to call it ‘I Deserve It’.It is with this in mind this is where the concept for the market days was born.

3. Who are the Partners? Amiena Adams Pastor and Siyam Salie and members. The initial co-founder was Shahiemah Davids.

4. What is the vision and mission of this NGO? I Deserve It is a non-profit organization that is constantly finding opportunities for entrepreneurs, skilldevelopment and upliftment of the community. The founders of I Deserve It have identified variousdesperate needs within the community. It is their desire to create opportunities to change the situation of people within the community, by empowering them. When first founded, its main focus was creating a platform for entrepreneurs to market and expo their products at an affordable daily rental, hence the market days. The funds raised went to otherorganizations in need. As time passed, we identified the lack of skills in our community. After some networking, a well-known podiatrist offered to train ladies of the community to work with The Aged, Diabetic or people in need of foot care. Not only would this service benefit our community, but empower females with a wonderful skill.

“T hus every one of our events has been a

success story and those that were not, was

a learning experience.”

Page 5: CFL Lifestyle Magazine vol 7

5. What makes it different from any other NGO currently in existence? We are unique in that we focus on not providing charity, but also providing the tools for people who need an income to gain a skill and in turn attain a sustainable income.

6. What are the future plans for this Project?I Deserve It will be launching an online magazine in which traders and entrepreneurs can advertise, gain insight to growing a business as well as connect with other business owners. Our magazine will alsoprovide the chance to expand into an online market.

7. Mention 1 success story which came from I Deserve It?I Deserve It started as a ‘fun thing that became a something’. Initially when we started the market days,it was intended to be a once-off project, but because of the amazing response from those who hadattended and benefitted, we were inspired to continue with our cause. Thus every one of our events has been a success story and those that were not, was a learning experience. As it is the knocks in life that inspires us to aim higher and try harder.

8. There are lots of you entrepreneurs in thecommunity. What advice do you have for them?In business, detach emotion from your business and give yourself six months to set up, six months to build it and six months to see whether it is sustainable.Furthermore, never ever give up.

9. I believe I Deserve It and the Cape Flats Lifestyle Magazine has joined forces. Where do you seethis going?Cape Flats Lifestyle has identified I Deserve It’s desire to help the community’s entrepreneurs especiallyhome-based businesses. They have therefore offered their services with marketing our brand and events. As well as assisting in establishing our online magazine; The Design Platform.

Choosing a sole mandate

more reward at the end of the dayEvery estate agent will advise you to choose a sole mandate and with good reason. Aside from the points listed below, it makes sound business sense for agencies and management to invest all their effort and resources into properties where a positive return is guaranteed in the event of the property being sold.

Best selling price - sole mandates allow buyers to compete on the property, thereby maximising the selling price, while open mandates tend to encourage agents to compete, thereby running the risk of reducing the selling price

Maximum advertising - sole mandates are advertised extensively, giving your property maximum exposure

Qualified buyers - our fully-trained agents will introduce only qualified purchasers to your property(saving you time and unnecessary hassle)

No commission disputes - as you have only one agent working for you at no cost unless successful

No pressure to accept offers - when competing against each other, unscrupulous agents may expect pressure on sellersto accept substandard offers so they can secure the deal. With a Rawson sole mandate, you are guarded against agents

A tailored marketing plan - developed specifically around your needs and circumstances

Commitment - committing to one agent makes him/her more accountable and allows for more time to secure the right buyerand the right price for you

Ways to Enhance the Occasion of EidThe beautiful month of Ramadaan is almost over and soon it will be Eid.

Here are a few tips to make the most out of this day.

1. Ease Eid Cleaning Get the household in shape for Eid-ul-Fitr. Now is a great time to do as much cleaning as you can to keep you from struggling with major cleaning and fasting at the same time. For those of you who stay at home, use the days during your menses (since you are not fasting) and take on the big job like washing the curtains, tablecloths, your Queen Elizabeth bedding you intend to use for Eid Day. Air out pieces of your furniture, mattresses or that chair your hubby huddles in while you are able to do the moving around before you return to fasting.

2. What’s on the Menu?Ask you muslimah what’s the hardest part of the fasting month and she will tell you it isknowing what to cook! The kids like one thing and your husband another. So, before the headache of deciding what to cook for the blessed day of Eid, sit down with the family and work out a menu. This will allow you to go grocery shopping beforehand, ensuring you have variety of delicious dishes to satisfy everyone’s appetite.

3. Wrap up Eid!As a major festival you can decorate for the occasion. Blow up balloons and hang upbanners to make it fun for the kiddies. As an activating with your kids during the month of Ramadaan come up with decorative ideas to keep their little minds busy. Of course, do not forget to wrap up reasonable presents for the children, loved ones and most importantly for those in need.

4. Dress UpFrom the decorative mendhi on your hands to the decision of what the family wears, dressing up for Eid is a pleasure. Start your day after Fajr to ensure you observe the sunnah by taking a ghusl, eat dates/breakfast before attending the Eid prayer. While you areencouraged to wear something new, don’t put yourself into debt for this day. Remember, not wear any of your branded perfumes to attend the Eid prayer. “When any of you comes to the mosque, you should not apply perfume”

5. Welcome homeWelcome guests with a fragrant candle or incense. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) loved scents in the mosque and at home. The sound of music can similarly enhance the atmosphere at home with either Quranic recitation, dua’s or even nasheeds. The important thing toremember is that your home illuminates a humble abode where Islam was enhanced during the blessed month of Ramadaan and where Eid-ul-Fitr will be enjoyed by the entire family.

Eid Mubarak!!!
