For the 2013 season, Cambridge FC is fi elding a record 12 senior teams (nine men’s and three women’s), with more than 600 players including our junior ranks.
We es mate every tenth home in Cambridge (popula on 16,800) has at least one family member with a connec on to the club.
Our growth is exci ng but it presents us with the challenge of providing suitable facili es and the on-going replacement of kit and equipment.
Over the past year or two, we have signifi cantly improved our clubrooms and changing facili es, with the installa on of gas-heated showers, upgrade of toilets and the replacement of bar and kitchen facili es. Our clubrooms have benefi ed from re-decora on over the summer, and the replacement of heaters and ligh ng.
We’re making progress, but con nue to look for solu ons as we near the capacity of our changing rooms. While we try to raise funds to build an addi onal changing block, we’ve entered into a season-long trial use of the adjacent Cambridge Athle cs & Harriers Club grounds, enabling us to use their changing rooms as well as a fi h senior pitch.
We’re grateful to the athle cs club and hope we can build a strong rela onship that benefi ts both clubs.
Our vision is to be recognised as a leading community–based football club
that players aspire to join; benefi ng from a suppor ve learning environment, with superior coaching, training facili es and equipment, and becoming part of a great self-funding social club atmosphere.
Our fi ve-year plan (now in year three) focuses on four key goals:
1. Nurture and retain our young players with a football and self–development pathway that is considered the best in the sport.
2. Enable all our players to play at the highest level to match their desire and ability.
3. Provide self–funding social and football facili es that our members consider the best in Waikato football.
4. Realise our goals through prudent fi nancial management of our club.
The bo om line is that our club is only as strong as its members and we want to encourage your par cipa on in our plans – if you think you can help, or wish to know more, please get in touch with any member of our commi ee.

A er last weekend’s Finals Day excitement, the focus returns to Federa on League football with our teams playing a double–header.
The Federa on 2 side completes their league programme today against a Te Awamutu side that s ll has a theore cal chance of winning promo on if league leaders Tauranga Boys College and HRFC Clube Allegria slip up in their remaining games.
Meanwhile, Karl Dagnall’s Federa on 1 team hosts last year’s champions, Taupo AFC, in a game that will help decide whether Cambridge ends the season in the upper or lower half of the table.
Two goals from Tom Woutersen helped Cambridge to a 2–0 win against Waikato Unicol last weekend, virtually ensuring he’ll take this season’s Fed 1 Golden Boot.
Despite the mid–table posi on, the Fed 1 team faces an exci ng fi nish to the season. Next week, the
team travels to Whakatane and will get a shot at regaining the WaiBop Challenge Shield. The team then gets a crack at topping leaders AFC Fury.
Great weekend for clubCambridge celebrated a double success last weekend with our C1’s (above) landing the Soccer Shop Waikato Plate and our Red Devils winning the annual Tom Voyle Challenge.
Finals day for the Waikato Cup and Plate proved a huge success for the club which hired a 10– er mobile grandstand for the occasion.
Steve Thomas’ C1 side won a thrilling Plate fi nal 4-3 against Waihi B, coming from behind in injury me.
The lead changed four mes during the game but goals from Ewan Bussey
(2), Mike Miller and Lee Turpi led to lengthy a ermatch celebra ons.
Unfortunately, our Waikato A Legends lost the Waikato Cup Final 5–2 against rivals Wanderers Classics.
Peter Loyd and Davy Thomas both scored from the spot but former Cambridge player Craig Hedges led the way for Wanderers with two goals.
Many club members worked hard to make Finals Day a success, including those who prepared the pitch, half a dozen ball boys and girls and those who kept the shop and bar staff ed all day.
Thanks to all who took part.

Club news Today’s opponentsSenior soccer in Taupo began in 1956 with the forma on of Taupo United Associa on Football Club.
A team was entered in the Bay of Plenty compe on but withdrew midway through 1957. In the 1960s Taupo twice reformed and twice folded as many of its players were workers at the Wairakei Power Project and work rosters rather than football determined the fate of the football club.
Since then, Taupo AFC has emerged
as a strong club with excellent facili es for men’s and women’s teams, as well as
junior players. The club’s fi rst team has
been at the top of its game in recent seasons, winning last year’s Waikato/Bay of Plenty Federa on 1 League and holding the WaiBop Challenge Shield for more than a year, before losing it to our own Cambridge
side. We welcome Taupo players and supporters to our club today and hope they enjoy their day with us.
Our club’s season of pres ge matches con nues with news that the Cambridge women’s fi rst team will play the curtainraiser for the All Whites v Phoenix match at Rotorua on Sunday Septeber 22.
Cambridge will play Rotorua United at the Rotorua Interna onal Stadium in a match that will decide this year’s Federa on Cup.
Meanwhile, Cambridge has been chosen from more than 100 affi liated clubs to host the end–of-season All Stars game between Waikato and Bay of
Plenty. The match, on Saturday October 5, will be followed by WaiBop’s annual prizegiving which presents trophies to successful clubs in the region.
Cambridge Feds 1 coach Karl Dagnall has been appointed a selector and co–coach of the Waikato All Stars team — worthy recogni on of his achievements at Cambridge this year and last year.
On Saturday October 12, Cambridge will host an exhibi on game between a combined Waikato/Bay of Plenty All Stars side and the region’s new na onal league side, WaiBop United.
