The first Relay for Life grossed over $40,000 with about 200 supporters and participants. Last year, the Relay at Buena Park Junior High grossed over $100,000 with over 900 supporters and 31 teams. Each team pledges to raise money to cure cancer and runs to honor and celebrate those who have survived the dreaded disease. For the second consecutive year the Hawaiian Gardens City Council ap-proved a donation of $120,000 to fund the 2010 summer school program at local Hawaiian Gardens Schools. At the same time it voted an additional $80,000 to fund summer school programs at schools that serve Hawaiian Garden students, but are not in the city.
In asking for the additional money ABC Superintendent Dr. Gary Smuts agreed to work with his financial staff to try and find funds from the American Recovery Relief Act for Fedde Middle School’s summer school program.

Furgeson Elementary School opened its school day June 4 with a surprise dona-tion—a giant check for $25,000. The donation was provided by KV Mart Co., a part of the Valu Plus Food Warehouses (now known as Price Right). The dona-tion will be used to provide students with a state of the art computer lab as well as student intervention programs. KV Mart Co. has provided educational donations throughout southern California area but it was the first one in Hawaiian Gardens. Phil Gentile, Senior Vice President donated the large check, along with Liana Ma-cias, Executive Assistant and Alex Gutierrez to Linda Dohm, Principal of Furgeson ES. More than 300 children, ages 1-5, enjoyed the ABC Adult School’s Mini-Olympics Jun. 2 at the Cecilia Dam-ron facility on the Gahr High School campus and participated in several events including an obstacle course, long jump, basketball throw, and walk the plank.
Fun activities for the children included face painting, photo ops in front of the Olympic Emblem and craft tables. Each child who participated was a guaranteed winner.
Teacher Terridawn Hernandez said, “This is an annual event hosted by the Parent Education Program, and anywhere from 350-500 people attend this wonderful event each year.” The Gahr campus is one of five sites located within the boundaries of the ABC School District.
The ABC Adult School program has existed for almost 30 years and all of the teachers have a California Creden-tial. “More important than the teachers’ qualifications
and quality teaching is their love of teaching and passion for the program,” said Hernandez.
Parents and grandparents are extremely supportive of the program, and it holds the strong interest of the surrounding communities. Hernandez said, “It is common to have parents from Brea, Fullerton, and other Orange County cities enroll because there is no program like it in their own com-munity.” Last year a parent and child enrolled from as far away as Ontario.
“Our program consists of highly
motivated parents who strongly desire to have their child educated in our pro-gram, regardless of the miles they have to drive.”
Studies have shown that children who attend pre-school are far better pre-pared to meet the social, emotional and academic challenges of kindergarten. Parent Ed prepares children through fun activities that develop fine motor skills; letter, number, color and shape recogni-tion; phonics; and artistic creativity.
“We not only support the children, but we are here to educate the parents as well in developing effective com-munication, interaction, recreation and discipline with their children. Both parent and the children benefit from this outstanding program.”
The program directly feeds into the ABC Unified School district, and some of the program’s alumni have gone onto Whitney High School and pub-lic and private colleges and uni-versities.

On Friday, June 4th, two schools in the ABC Unified School District were honored as 2010 California Distin-guished Schools. Gonsalves Elemen-tary School and Leal Elementary School both located in the city of Cerritos were honored at the California Distinguished Schools Awards Ceremony held at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. Helping hand for Tarin baby’s birthdayDear ABC Friends and Fellow Retirees, As you may have read or seen on the news, the Tarin Family of Hawaiian Gardens recently suffered the heart-breaking loss of their father, Alfredo Sr., son Alfredo Jr., daughter Serena, and the severe injury of their mother Lucy during a tragic, early morning inci-dent of domestic violence. The Tarin-Rivera-Rodriguez Family are longtime respected and admired members of the Hawaiian Gardens community. Starting with family patriarch, Henry Rivera in 1937, all attended ABC Schools from Elementary through High School. Serena left a 9-month old baby, Jacob, who is now being raised by his Aunt Valerie and the rest of his loving family. Since Jacob's first birthday will be August 21, a group of ABC friends will be helping Valerie register Jacob at "Babies R Us" for the many items that he will need now and in the near future. If you would like to participate in help-ing to provide Jacob with a Happy First Birthday, Valerie Tarin-Rodriguez will be registered in the near future at "Ba-bies R Us". Enrichment Cluster celebration at Carver Academy
The 8th Annual Enrichment Cluster Celebration was held at Carver Acad-emy, a Communications Arts Magnet School on Friday, May 28th. Carver Academy is located in the city of Cer-ritos and part of ten magnet schools in the ABC Unified School District. The Enrichment Cluster Program was designed by the school to motivate stu-dents to select subjects of their interest that they would explore over a six week period. The enrichment classes were provided by staff, community volun-teers, Board members, support staff, college students and cross age students.
Approximately 40 different types of classes were offered in the 2010 Enrich-ment Cluster Program. The following enrichment classes were chosen by the students: Puppet Masters; Softball Ba-sics; Jewelry Institute; Dance Institute; Country Line Dancers; Cardmakers Company; Broadcasting Company; Healthy Snack Makers; Pottery guild; Keyboarding Academy; Track Team, Photography Institute; Underwater Sci-entists and Stoneworkers Guild.
A special recognition was given to teacher Betty Hyatt, coordinator of the Enrichment Cluster Program for over eight years. As the site coordinator of the magnet school program, she pro-vided the leadership in the development of the program. Attending the program were Dr. Gary Smuts, Superintendent; James Kang, Board member; Dr. Mary Sieu, Deputy Superintendent; Cheryl Bodger, Director of Schools and Carver parents and families.

State Approves Rail Safety Funding The California Transportation has approved $46 million in funding for positive train control, a computer-based tracking system that will monitor trains as they travel across the region preventing accidents. Metro worked with different agencies as part of the Southern California Consensus Group to ensure that funding was made available.

Beginning July 1, the cash fare for regular riders will be $1.50; a day pass will be $6; the Metro weekly pass $20; and a monthly pass $75. The fare change was approved three years ago as part of a two-step fare restructuring. Fares for seniors, students, the disabled and Medicare recipients will stay at current levels. Metro Silver Line fares also will not change.

The 47th Annual Regional Cerritos Chamber of Commerce Installation Lun-cheon was held June 3 at the Sheraton Cerritos Hotel with Dr. Mary Sieu in-stalled as president for 2010-11 term. Giving her the oath of office was ABC School District Superintendent Dr. Gary Smuts. He described her as being indis-pensable in his office, a person who gets things done and makes his job easier.
Following an exaggerated and fun-ny history about Dr. Sieu’s background from a little girl and her alleged ability as an athlete, to her attendance at UCLA where she earned her Doctorate Degree and presently is teaching a class at USC, she was sworn in as the Chamber’s Presi-dent for 2010-11.
Five special recognition awards were presented to members. They included Ambassador of the Year, Angie Lee. It is given to an ambassador who volunteers and assists with Chamber events and programs. Volunteer of the Year went to Geoffrey Bolt. This honors someone who volunteers much of their personal time and energy to the Chamber. Ann Smith won the Business Person of the Year award. This award honors a busi-ness leader who supports the Chamber on behalf of their business. Business of the Year went to Vicencia & Buckley in recognition of their years of dedication and service to the Chamber. The Last

A hernia occurs when the muscles of the abdomen become weak because of a natural flaw in the abdominal wall or through excessive strain caused by heavy lifting, significant weight gain, constant coughing, or difficulty with bowel move-ment or urination. Part of an organ, usu-ally the intestines, then pushes through
the weak spot or tear to form a bulge un-der the skin. About two-thirds of hernias develop near the groin (inguinal hernia), but they can also appear in the upper thigh (femoral hernia), around the belly button (umbilical hernia), or along a pre-vious incision (incisional hernia). Nearly 700,000 abdominal hernia operations are performed each year in the United States.

family history of hernias, cystic fibrosis, persistent cough, extra weight, pregnan-cy, premature birth, previous hernia, or difficulty with bowel movement or uri-nation. Common symptoms of a hernia are discomfort or pain in the groin area that get worse when bending or lifting, a bulge in the groin or abdomen, nausea and constipation, and a feeling of full-ness or dull ache.
M o s t hernias can be pushed gently back into the ab-dominal cav-ity. Applying an ice pack to reduce swelling may help the hernia slide in more easily. However, if the her-nia cannot be pushed back through the abdominal wall, surgery may be neces-sary.
Hernia surgery usually is performed on an outpatient basis, with the proce-dure itself taking approximately one hour. Hernia repair may be performed either by minimally invasive laparo-scopic surgery or traditional open re-pair. Following open surgery, the patient may go home a few hours after surgery and resume a normal routine within a few days. Strenuous activity or exer-cise is not recommended until four to six weeks after surgery. The benefits of laparoscopic surgery compared to open
surgery include three small scars versus one large incision, less pain following surgery, and a recovery time measured in days instead of weeks. The surgeon will determine which method is best suited for the individual patient.
There are two general types of hernia operations, herniorrhaphy and hernio-plasty. A herniorrhaphy involves making an incision in the groin and pushing the
p r o t r u d i n g intestine back into the ab-domen. The weakened or torn muscles are then sewn together. Dur-
ing a hernioplasty, the surgeon inserts a piece of synthetic mesh over the entire inguinal area, covering all potential her-nia openings. The mesh is then sewn, clipped or stapled to the peritoneum (in-ner lining of the abdomen).
Congenital defects that lead to an in-guinal hernia cannot be avoided, but cer-tain steps can be taken to reduce strain on abdominal muscles and tissues.•Stay within a normal weight range.•Eat a high-fiber diet.•Lift heavy objects properly.•Stop smoking.•Exercise regularly.•Do not rely on a truss (hernia belt) for support.
Surgery is considered a safe and ef-fective treatment for hernia repair. Re-currence occurs rarely, only in one to three percent of patients. As with any operation, however, there are possible complications. Students at Gonsalves Elementary School were rewarded by the school’s Booster’s Club with a “Home Reading Barbecue” May 28 due to their read-ing30 minutes a day at home. The stu-dents keep a monthly log showing what they read during the month. Booster Club Co -presidents Michelle Gandy and Susanne Gordon-Jones said the festivities started at 9 a.m. and ended at
2 p.m. “It’s our way to encourage the students to read and at the same time to develop an enjoyment and interest in reading.”
School officials said this year in-stead of holding a barbecue, the stu-dents were given a selection of Subway Sandwiches which they appeared to enjoy, along with snow cones, pop corn, and of course cotton candy. It was a fun day for teachers and students.

You never know what to expect when you read the promotional summary of a play that says: “a rueful comedy. …. a thoughtful study on divorce, a turbulent meditation on the minefield of middle age. But always the curious-and middle aged-off we went to Dinner with Friends at the La Mirada Theater. And we were not disappointed
The play starts inside a tiny house in Connecticut, (great scene decorations throught the entire play). Gabe and Karen, a hap-pily married couple, have been friends with married couple Tom and Beth for many years. In fact, they introduced them. While having dinner at Gabe and Karen’s home one night, Beth tearfully re-veals after 12 years, that she is getting a divorce from Tom, who has been unfaithful.
The unfolding story is not the di-vorce, but the shockwaves it causes in its wake. Over the course of the play, we witness the effects of Tom and Beth’s breakup on Gabe and Karen, who first feel compelled to choose sides, and then begin to question the strength of their own seemingly tranquil marriage. The play exposes the same, universal inse-curities that people face every time there are shattering changes in their lives. But the play tackles those insecurities with a thoughtful mix of humor and solace.
The characters are real. Gabe, played by Kevin Weisman, is a veteran food
critic who when confronted the problem, reverts back to talking about his love for food and wine, funny banter. The con-servative Karen, Gabe's wife, played by Melanie Lora, questions herself and
“what if” after the di-vorce revelation. Patrick Fabian, playing Tom, a guy going through the middle-age-what-if- jog-ging- four-to-five-miles-then-making-love-in-the-shower-with-his-new-partner-guy, and Beth, the stay at home mom who questions why this is happening to her and lays some of her problems on Gabe and Karen. They are very normal. They could be the family, friends, and the people next door.
They are people facing their fears.When all is said and done, Tom and
Beth end up "happy" with their new part-ners and Gabe and Karen end up ques-tioning “what if”, but only for a minute. Quite the turnaround from the beginning of the play. All in all extremely enjoy-able and a night well spent.

1500 adults and children who walked the track Jun. 5-6 and raised more than $125,000. The team raising the most money this year, at $22,000, was the AOL So-Cal Over 40, led by Peter Chow and Sylvia Woodside who are able to get their company, the WFG Foundation, to contribute matching funds. In second place was Sandee’s (Michalek) All-Stars who raised more than $16,000. Top fund-raising person was Barbara Mast who raised more than $5,000.
Past co-chairs Chow and Woodside said “the relay gives us the opportunity to celebrate the good work we did and to raise a lot of money at the same time for a great cause.” One of this year’s co-chairs is La Palma Mayor Pro-Tem Ralph Rodriguez who was very pleased with
the tremendous support and turnout. “It just gets bigger and better every year.”
Main events included a Survivor Cel-ebration Breakfast, Opening Ceremony with Mayors’ Addresses from La Palma Mayor Steve Shanahan and Buena Park Mayor Art Brown, a Survivor Lap, Pa-rade of Teams and the Luminaria Cer-emony and Walk.
Participants are encouraged to walk as many laps as they can, and the traditional luminaria ceremony and walk takes place at 9:00 pm on Saturday when all of the lights on the track are shut off. Last year, almost 900 paper bags were purchased in memory or in honor of a cancer patient or survivor. The bags were illuminated on the track with a candle inside and an inscription on the outside of the bag.
Relay for Life’s mission is to elimi-nate cancer as a major health issue. The Society fights cancer on four fronts: re-search, education, advocacy and service.

Artesia Punishers 18-U squad begins new qualifier strong, fade lateBy Loren Kopff
ORANGE COUNTY-While the Artesia Punishers 18-U travel ball softball team competes in the Amateur Softball Association and aspires to play for a national championship in the first week of August every summer, there’s yet another major championship to play for. The Premier Girls Fastpitch, already a few months old, put on a qualifier for the ESPN/Premier National Tournament in early August.
With the PGF forming, possibly to give the ASA some competition in the future, it gave a chance for manager Bob Medina to put his team in back to back national championships. But after winning the first two games of the double elimination function, the Punishers lost last Saturday evening, then had to win five games this past Sunday in the loser’s bracket.
“The Premier and ASA State are probably about the same,” Medina said. “If not, then Premier was probably tougher. But we met a lot of good, strong teams and played a lot of strong teams and that was our focus in the short amount of time coming back from [the high school season].”
The Punishers opened the qualifier last Friday night with a 4-2 victory over the San Diego Power Surge at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex. With right fielder Amanda Natsuhara (Canyon High School, University of California,
San Diego) at first via a walk in the bottom of the first, left fielder Arren Nunez (South East High School) singled to put runners on the corners. Both would advance on an illegal pitch and Nunez would later score on yet another illegal pitch.
After the Power Surge tied the game in the top of the third, catcher Jessica Roper (Mayfair High School, California State University, San Marcos) drove in Natsuhara with the team’s third straight base hit. One inning later, consecutive doubles from second baseman Mahrisch Medina (Mayfair High School, East Carolina University) and first baseman Kristina Akiona (Pacifica High School) iced the game.
Kristin Jaeger (Mayfair High School, CSUSM) pitched five innings of two-hit ball while Cerissa Rivera (Fountain Valley High School) worked the final two innings, also allowing a pair of hits.
The next morning, the Punishers erupted for four runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 7-0 victory over the (Tustin) Pure Gold at Toyon Park in Anaheim. With center fielder Abrianna Palacio (Garden Grove High School) having scored on a wild pitch, Roper’s base hit to right brought in Nunez. Akiona followed that up with a double and Medina’s sacrifice fly plated Roper. The final run of the inning was courtesy of a base hit from third baseman Brittany Colenzo (Downey High School, Vanguard University).
Already up 5-0, the Punishers closed out the scoring in the fifth when catcher Sarah Carrasco (Lakewood High School) and second baseman Sydney Colenzo (Downey High School) posted consecutive run scoring singles.
The scene then shifted to the Fountain Valley Mile Square Sports Complex later in the day where the Punishers allowed six runs in the top of the first inning to the (Yorba Linda) Courage and fell 8-4 despite a furious rally in the bottom of the sixth. With the score 8-1, Nunez reached on an infield single, Roper was walked and Akiona singled to load the bases. Pinch hitter Natalia Morales (South East High School) came through with a two-run single and Medina, who was inserted as a pinch runner, scored on a wild pitch.
This past Sunday in an elimination game at Yorba Regional Park, the Punishers hooked up with a familiar foe in the San Diego Breakers and scratched a run in the bottom of the eighth for the lone tally in the game. With center fielder Rochelle Rivera (Fountain Valley High School) standing at second due to the international tiebreaker rules, Natsuhara sacrificed her to third. Then on a full count, Nunez singled to center for the game winner. Brittany Colenzo pitched eight innings of two-hit ball and did not walk a batter. No one from the Breakers
reached third until the top of the eighth.The fifth game of the weekend was
a come from behind 4-3 victory over the(Westlake Village) Jets. Down 2-0 after the first inning, the Punishers received single tallies in the next three innings, then broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh when Medina drove in Palacio with a base hit. Medina scored twice while Nunez posted a pair of hits.
Right after that victory, the Punishers were bounced out by another old combatant, the (San Juan Capistrano) California Desperados 6-5 despite rallying from a 5-0 deficit.
“In the beginning, the team didn’t know how strong we actually are,” Bob Medina said. “They were smiling at the end after we lost. The one thing we got to know about this is we can go anywhere. We’re kind of like a major league baseball team. The talent that we have, the depth that we have is huge. I think they’re just believing in it right now, even the people who were on the bench.”
The Punishers will be in Las Vegas this weekend in a showcase tournament, then try for one of the top 13 spots in the ASA “A” 18-Under State Tournament to be held at Orange Terrace Community Park in Riverside. If the team claims one of the top 13 spots, it will qualify for the ASA “A” 18-Under National Championships in Hemet later in the summer.
“There’s always a plan and ASA Nationals is probably our biggest concern,” Bob Medina said. “ASA State is going to be our biggest concern and in the past, we’ve won Nationals twice. If we don’t compete; just go there and play that game, then we’re not going to be prepared for that tournament play in a tournament atmosphere.”
The remaining players of the 18-Under Punishers are: Starla Coffee (Los Alamitos High School), Celine Fuentes (Ocean View High School), Autumn Martinez (Ocean View High School), Katrina Pinkowski (Cypress College) and Lacey Nilsson (Los Alamitos High School). Joining Bob Medina on his coaching staff are Ed Blanck, Mike Fuentes and Tim Rivera.

In other business Councilmember Bruce was accused of influencing the City’s Scholarship Commission to award his daughter a scholarship. Making the accusation was Hawaiian Garden resi-dent Rosie Gomez. Bruce responded that his daughter won the scholarship on her own. He had nothing to do with it. She earned it. “She is a very smart girl,” he asserted.
Bruce asked the City Attorney if there was a conflict of interest because his daughter won a scholarship. He said if there is, the scholarship would be torn up and thrown away. “If there is not, please explain why it is okay.” He said her grades are almost 4.0 and described her as an achiever. She does her work and to say she doesn’t deserve a scholar-ship is wrong just because her dad is on the city council.
“ Vanguard University accepted her, not because she is the daughter of a city councilmember” he asserted. “They ac-cepted her because she is smart.” Bruce’s daughter, a graduating senior at Turner
High School, received an athletic schol-arship in the amount of $ 2,000. City At-torney Omar Sandolval said he was not aware of any conflict of interest.
The city’s scholarship committee is made up with three people. They include a representative from the city’s Recre-ation Commission, a representative from the Hawaiian Gardens Casino and from State Senator Alan Lowenthal’s office. A total of 15 scholarships were awarded ranging from $1,250 to $3,000. Appli-cants are required to write an essay and then are interviewed by the panel.
The Council continued a proposal to initiate an audit of city departments until its’ next meeting. Mayor Pro Tem Mi-chiko Oyama-Canada was absent. The four Councilmembers present agreed on the audit, but disagreed whether it should be authorized before or after the final budget was approved later this month.

Part I felony investigations rose last week to twenty-nine compared to twenty the week before. Commercial burglaries and vehicle thefts were up, robberies and vehicle burglaries remained the same, and residential burglaries declined. There were 335 calls for service last week, up from 300 the week before. The 2010 weekly average in calls for service is now 299.
One robbery was investigated last week. On Wednesday June 2 at 8:30 p.m. a female was walking on Droxford Street near Del Rio Place when a male suspect came up behind her and wrestled her purse away.
There was one residential burglary reported last week. Three were investigated the week before. In the case last week, the suspect(s) shattered a rear sliding glass door but did not enter the home. Neighbors were apparently attracted to the crime as a result of the noise made by shattering the door. The new 2010 weekly average in residential burglaries is 2.2.
Neighbors take care of neighbors. You know the activities in your neighborhood by seeing daily them daily. Report ANY suspicious behavior to the Sheriff’s Station right away. Help make your neighborhood “hostile” to crime!
Five commercial burglaries were reported last week. There were two cases investigated the past two consecutive weeks. Four closed business and a storage unit were targeted last week. Tools, computers, cash, TVs, and a plastic container were missing. The 2010 weekly average in commercial burglaries is 2.9.
Vehicle burglaries remained the same at seven last week. Six of the crimes occurred in high-volume commercial parking lots. Five of the vehicles were SUVs. One involved the theft of a GPS unit. Other property reported taken included Bluetooth devices, access cards, wallets, duffel bags, ID, credit cards, purses, and cell phones. The new 2010 weekly average in vehicle burglaries is now 6.6. Just because your vehicle is the driveway doesn’t mean it cannot be the target of a vehicle burglary. Make sure that nothing can be seen inside that would appeal to a thief. Vehicle thefts rose by one crime over the previous reporting period when four were logged. High-volume commercial parking lots were the crime scenes in two. The 2010 weekly average in vehicle thefts is now 4.7.

The Friends of the 1st CEB is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the 1st Combat Engineers Battalion (1st CEB), United States Ma-rine Corps, Camp Pendleton. The City of Cerritos adopted the 1st CEB on Vet-erans Day in 2007 to encourage strong ties between the Marine unit, residents and the City.
The Friends of the 1st CEB of Cerri-tos have assembled more than 1,200 care packages for the members of the 1st CEB who are serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. The care packages provided personal care items and treats. The gift bags were sent to the battalion members to show the community’s appreciation for their efforts. The group plans to prepare 800 more care packages in November.
The Friends of the 1st CEB of Cer-ritos have also held fund-raising events such as car washes, bowling tournaments and golf tournaments to help support members of the 1st CEB. The third an-nual Friends of the 1st CEB of Cerritos fund-raising golf tournament will be held on September 25 at Iron-Wood 9 Golf Course.

He said while the impacts of reduced sales activity are undeniable, Cerritos is fortunate to experience remarkable con-sistence in its residential and commercial property values during a “depressed real estate market”.
Interest income will provide another $9.7 million for the City, with $9.3 mil-lion of this amount going into the Gen-eral Fund He noted that as in prior years, the City will use its General Fund inter-est income to cover operating expendi-tures. He said for the upcoming year, to-tal City revenues were projected to be $82,085,000, while the Redevelopment Agency revenue total is $34,818,150. The combined budgetary total of all City/Agency activities for the new fiscal year is $119,108,620.
Gallucci said to makeup for the de-cline in city revenues the city has im-plemented a hiring freeze on position vacated by attrition. He said the normal complement of full-time staff is 246. The City’s actual full-time work force is 219. The city’s purchase of new equipment has also been reduced, he stated, with the equipment budget of $584,340 reduced to $10,000, excluding contingencies for the 2009-10 fiscal year. At the same time public services traditionally afforded residents have not been reduced. This in-cludes law enforcement, recreation pro-grams, upkeep of the city parks, opera-tion of the Senior Center etc,
At the same time Councilman Jim Ed-wards asked City Attorney Mark Steres if the Rose Parade Float was still a bud-get item and could it be brought up for discussion. Steres said yes but the major-ity who previously voted against partici-pating in the parade this year could only bring it up. Those who voted no were

However, the council majority apparently did not feel sufficient funding would be raised from the community to sufficiently supple-ment the total cost.
Mayor Pro Tem Lee said her vote was very difficult to make, especially since there were many intangible benefits the city received from the worldwide cover-age of the parade. It is not easy to say no she stated, however, she said the loss of city revenue and the state taking city funds to help balance its budget, in her opinion, made if difficult to approve $185,000 expenditure on the float this year.
Recreation Director Sherri Titus said when she notified the tournament, they were understanding and left the door open for the city to return in the future.
