Since its inception the centre is engaged in teaching, training research, extension and advocacy actively. Its mission is to • To promote gender equality through education. • To bring in the knowledge available in other language to Urdu speaking Women and vice versa • To create, strengthen and disseminate information and knowledge about and for women globally. • To establish a network between women, researchers, lobbyists, and policy planners. • To critique and reassess the process of acquiring and disseminating knowledge. • To support and provide advocacy on issues effecting the status of the Women. 2. Programme Offered Activities of CWS in Xth plan : Since its establishment the CWS is engaged in various activities such as Teaching, Training, Research, Extension programmes and Awareness Programmes. I. Teaching:-
1. The CWS has organized a certificate course in Women’s studies during the year
2006-07 duration of 3 months with the collaboration of St. Ann’s Degree College for women, at Mehdipatnam, Hyderabad.
2. The 40 students have enrolled and passed
II. Training:-
1. The Centre has organized an orientation and training programme on “Understanding Gender” on 14th November 2005.
2. There were 25 staff members and 75 students, of Maulana Azad National Urdu
University, attend the programme
3. This orientation programme was given by Ms. Padma, Gender Resource Person, and Kiran Mai, Consultant, Mahila Samakhya Group.
4. The Centre has organized a course on Gender Sensitization for Police
Officials on 23rd to 28th October 2006 with collaboration of the National Industrial Security Academy (NISA) Hakeem pet, Hyderabad
5. The training programme was conducted for the 15 Deputy Commandants and 20
Assistant commandants of A.P. Police. 6. The Centre has organized a course on Women Entrepreneur on 23rd to 27th
May, 2007. 7. 75 women participated in this training programme.

IV. Extension Programmes:-
1. A health camp was organized by CWS at Nizam Institute of Medical Science (NIMS) for Diabetics and cholesterol check up from 3rd to 8th October, 2005.
2. The Centre for Women’s Studies conducted an extension programme on the issue of women and health at Mahita Centre Gali No. 5, Bhavani Nagar, on 15th July, 2006.
3. The CWS had already conducted an extension programme on the issue of women and health and on this day we have a lot of enquiries from the women. Since we were not qualified to answer many of their specific medical doubt which could be answered by only a medical doctor. So we organized a health camp for women along with Medical Doctor on 17th August, 2006 at Bhavani Nagar.
4. The Centre for Women’s Studies conducted an extension programme for the
girls of Princess Shahkar Women’s college on 15th November 2006.The topic was “The Impact of Dowry on Society.”
5. CWS conducted an Extension Programme for the students of Unique Girls
Junior College, Yakuthpura, Bada bazaar, Hyderabad on 4th December 2006.
6. CWS conducted an extension programme for the students of Islamia Degree
college on 7th February 2007. An elocution competition on the topic “I am proud to be a women” was conducted on this occasion.

2005.
3. UGC Sponsored National Level Seminar “Role of Women in National Building: A Multidimensional Perspective”. 16th and 17th June, 2006.
4. A seminar on “Women Writing and Reading: Local, National and Global on 8th
September, 2006. Workshop:
1. A workshop on Early Marriage-its Medico and Psychological, Socio legal impact, on 8th and 9th November, 2005.
2. A workshop on ‘Digital Divide’ on 3rd June, 2006.
3. A workshop on ‘Strategies to deal with gender violence’ on 3rd January, 2006.
4. One day workshop on Capacity Building and Experience Sharing with Women Affected by HIV/AIDS, on 12th January, 2007, at Chest Hospital, Erra Gadda.
VI. Documentation / Information Dissemination:- A) Audio visual documentation: 1. Film on HIV/AIDS: The CWS collaborated with BBC in the making a film on HIV and AIDS. The BBC WORLD SERVICE TRUST in association with DD and NACO, was running India’s largest AIDS awareness mass media campaign. As part of this campaign, the trust was producing weekly, youth focused reality television show called ‘Haath se Haath Milaa’ which is telecast on DD1 reaching out to 200 million viewers. The concept of the film was ‘RECYCLE, REVIVE. REGAIN’ concept of recycled waste competition in Hyderabad which is aimed at HIV awareness amongst all strata of society. B) Documentary Film, Quamar, A Child Labor in Bangle Making:
CWS, in collaboration with Flying Elephants films made a documentary film on
child labor, especially concentrating on girl children, in Bangle making in and won a lot of appreciation. Print:

VII. Networking and Resource Sharing:- A) With the Department of Women’s Studies, San Diego State University, California, USA.: The Centre for Women’s Studies collaborated with the San Diego State University, California, USA. And their faculty members Prof. Huma Ghosh, Prof. Doreen Mattingly and Prof Barbra Sullivan along with thiry one students of Women’s Studies., visited the
centre. The purpose of this programme was to share the views across the table on women’s issues in North and South. B) Collaboration with Mahilla Samakhya: The CWS participated in a two days workshop which was organized by the Mahila Samkhya group on “Women empowerment”. C) Collaboration with Mahita on Children’s education: The CWS is collaborating an NGO. Mahita to work on women’s issues and child labour issues. . Mahita organized a two day community consultation of for women’s studies participated in this. D) Workshop on Dropouts among Muslim girls-parents teacher’s responsibility” : The CWS, MANUU participated in a two day workshop organized by shaheen, women’s Resource and welfare Association at Urdu Ghar, Mughalpura , Hyd. E) Women’s First State Conference Jamate-islami Hind: The CWS participated in the Women’s First State Conference held on 11th – 12th February, 2006 at Wadi-e-Huda Hyd. Organized by women’s wing, Jamaat-e- islami Hind. A.P. & Orissa.. Activities of CWS in XIth plan: I. Teaching:-
1. The Centre has organized a Certificate course in women studies duration of
3 months in the year 2008 with the collaboration of Indra Priyadarshini Girls’ Degree College for women, at Nampally, Hyderabad. Prof. Rehana Sultana, Director, Mumtaz Fatima, Lecturer and Rafat Seema, Project officer has taken the classes.
2. The CWS has organized a certificate course in women’s studies with the
collaboration of Govt. Degree college for women, Hussaini Alam, Hyderabad. From July to September 2009. Prof. Rehana Sultana, Director, Mumtaz Fatima, Lecturer has taken the classes.
II. Training:-
• The Centre has organized a 3 days training programme from 12th – 14th August, 2009 on the topic “Gender Sensitization and skill training programme for women” at Urdu Ghar, Moghalpura, Hyderabad.
• The CWS in collaboration with COVA – Kasturba Gandhi Peace Centre
(CAGPC) has organized a campaign on Violence Against Women ( Dowery Cases, Domestic Violence etc) from 15th November, to 5th December, 2009 in the selected slum areas of old city of Hyderabad.
III. Research:- The titles of the research project completed by Centre for Women’s Studies are as follows:-

3. Biographies of Socio Active Women in Hyderabad.
4. The Social, Economical and Medico problem of Girl Child at Farooq Nagar,
Hyderabad. ( On going project ) IV. Extension Programmes:- The CWS, has conducted 20 extension Lectures during the XIth plan 10 Lectures has been given on the topic Legal rights of women, in different girls colleges of Hyderabad and 10 lecture has been given on Women’s Health in different slum areas in Hyderabad. Awareness Programme: The CWS has organized an awareness programme on “The Socio Economic and psychological Impact of Dowry” on 25th August, 2009 at Hussaini Alam, Degree College for Women, Hyderabad. The CWS has organized an awareness lecture on HIV / AIDS addressed by Dr. Kalidas Deputy director Andhra Pradesh Aids Control Society, Sultan Bazar, at university campus more than 50 staff members were benefited. The CWS has organized a 2 days essay writing and elocution competition on the Eve of “International Day for the Elimination of violence Against Women’s” for the student of Govt. Degree College for women, Hussaini Alam, Hyderabad. Women’s Day Celebration: The CWS in the collaboration of department of women education organized an exhibition cum sale of products of women entrepreneurs. CWS has organized a lecture on the topic “Women’s Health” by Dr. Sangeeta Jha, on the Eve of International women’s day i.e., on 8th March, 2010. • The CWS made a Documentary Film “Problems of Indian Maids Working in
