The mission of the Center for Science, Technology, and Society is to promote the use of science and technology to benefit underserved communities worldwide. PROGRAMS FOR SOCIAL BENEFIT Technology Benefiting Humanity The Center partners with The Tech Awards to recognize visionaries working on global challenges in the environment, economic development, education, equality and health. The Center manages the nomination, application and judging process, as well as providing valuable workshops for the Laureates, using its global network to expand the reach of the program. Global Social Benefit Incubator The signature program of the Center is the Global Social Benefit Incubator™ (GSBI). Focused on accelerat- ing the success of social entrepreneurs, the GSBI aims to improve financial sustainability and increase the scale of organizations to serve more beneficiaries. Selected organizations participate in a four-month distance learning and two week in-residence program that leverages our unique access to a network of Silicon Valley mentors and SCU Faculty. Over 120 social entrepreneurs have received coveted scholar- ships to the GSBI program since its inception in 2003. Frugal Innovation Initiative The Frugal Innovation Initiative is a program of the Center in partnership with the School of Engineering and the Leavey School of Business. The initiative fosters collaboration among engineers, social entrepreneurs, students and researchers to incubate and scale technical development projects in clean energy and water, public health and mobile applications.
