    Introductiony About J.K Laxmi Cement

    Year-1982.

    Located- Sirohi in Rajasthan.

    It has completed more than 25 years ofits glorious existence, the company isrenowned for its strength, quality and performance.

    One ofthe established names in the cement industry, JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd hasstate-of-the-art plant at Jaykaypuram, dist. Sirohi, Rajasthan. With the capacityexpansion and further commissioning ofa split location grinding unit atMotibhoyan, Kalol (Gujarat), the combined capacityofthe Company today standsat 4.75 Million Matric per annum. With the use ofthe latest technologyfrom M/sBlue Circle Industries and modern equipments from M/s Fuller InternationalofUSA, the Company is going from strength to strength.

    It is also the first cement producer ofNorthern India to be awarded an ISO 9002certificate and be accredited by NABL(Department ofScience & Technology,Government ofIndia) for its Lab Quality Management systems.

    RAW MATERIAL USED TO MANUFACTURE

    CEMENT

    Raw Materials Limestone Sand, Shale, Clay, and Iron ore.

    Another source ofrawmaterials is industrial by-products. Raw Material Preparationy Mining oflimestone requires the use ofdrilling and blasting techniques. The

    blasting techniques use the latest technology to insure vibration, dust, andnoise emissions are kept at a minimum. Blasting produces materials in a widerange ofsizes from approximately 1.5 meters in diameter to smallparticles lessthan a fewmillimeters in diameter.

    y Material is then loaded at the blasting face into trucks for transportation to thecrushing plant. Through a series ofcrushers and screens, the limestone isreduced to a size less than 100 mm and stored until required.

    y Depending on size, the minor materials (sand, shale, clay, and iron ore) mayormay not be crushed before being stored in separate areas until required.

    CEMENT PRODUCTION

    PROCESS1.Quarry: Typicallylimestone, marl and

    clays as well as other materials containingthe required proportions ofcalcium,silicon, aluminium and iron oxides areextracted using drilling and blastingtechniques.

    2. Crusher: The quarried material is then

    reduced in size bycompression and/orimpact in various mechanicalcrushers.Crushed rock is reduced in size from 120cm to between 1.2 and 8 cm.Drying ofrawmaterialmay also be necessaryforefficient crushing and pre-blending.

    3. Conveyor: Rawmaterial is thentransported from the quarryusingconveyors, railwagons or other suitablelogistics solutions specific to the cementplant.

    4. Mixing bed: The crushedlimestone and clay ishomogenized by stacking andreclaiming in a long layeredstockpile. This material is thenreadyfor milling and drying inthe kiln.

    5. Rawmill: The rawmaterials are

    milled and dried in a roller mill.Heavy rollers are held over arotating table . Here the rawmaterials are send forcrushing/screening plant, whereit is crushed and screened, toproduce the desired particle size.Ore from the mines are typically

    reduced to about inch andstored in a coarse stockpile. Fromthere, the inchore is typicallyreduced to a powder in a largeballmil

    6.Filter: Bag filters comprise filters ofeither

    woven fabricor needle felts to remove particlesfrom kiln exhaust. The exhaust gas frommanykilns is used for drying rawmaterials, thusimproving the energy efficiencyofthe plant.

    7. Preheater: Cyclone preheaters enable the rawmaterialofcement production to be preheatedbefore entry into the kiln. This increases the energyefficiencyofthe kiln as the material is 20-40%

    calcined at the point ofentry into the kiln.

    8. Kiln: The kiln is designed tomaximize theefficiencyofheat transfer fromfuel burning to therawmaterial. In the preheater tower the rawmaterials are heated rapidly to a temperature ofabout 1000C, where the limestone forms burntlime. In the rotating kiln, the temperature reachesup to 2000C. At this high temperature, minerals

    fuse together toformpredominantlycalciumsilicate crystals - cement clinker.

    9. Cooler: The molten cement clinker is thencooled as rapidly as possible. The ambient air usedtocool the clinker is then fed into the kiln ascombustion air - ensuring highutilization oftheheat produced

    10. Clinker silo: Clinker may be either storedon site in preparation for grinding toformcement, or transported toother sites.

    11. Cement mill: Finishmilling is thegrinding together ofcement clinker, witharound 5% ofnaturalor synthetic gypsum.Other cementitious materials such as slag,flyash or other pozzolans may also beincorporated into the finalcement powder.

    12.Logistics: Finalcement may betransported pre-bagged or as a bulk powder.The method oftransport selected variesaccording tolocation - and may includetransport via truck, railor ship
