Cancer

• Caused by a mutation– When cells grow and divide uncontrollably

• Damages the tissues around the cells

Cancers

• Over 100 different types– Can occur in almost any part of the body

• Lung cancer is #1 cancer killer

Mutation

• Damage that causes DNA to change– Can cause cancer

Tumor

• A mass of abnormal cells that develops when cancerous cells divide and grow uncontrollably

Cancer Spreading

• If cancerous cells enter the bloodstream they can then spread through the body

Treatments for Cancer

• Surgery– To remove cancer

cells• Radiation

– To kill remaining cancer cells

• Chemotherapy– To stop any remaining

cells from dividing

Cancer Prevention

• Avoid tobacco• Eat healthy foods
