Celebration for ‘World Soil Day’ on 5 th December, 2015 1. Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Ministry of Rural Development (RD), Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MOEF&CC) and Department of Fertilizers (DOF) have jointly prepared a plan of action for celebration of the World Soil Day to raise awareness on healthy soils. 2. An Inter-Ministerial Committee has been set up to coordinate the various activities of World Soil Day and detailed programmes of events to be organized. 3. The event is organized at the national, state, district, block and village levels. The Union Agriculture Minister and Ministers of State are participating at the functions organized in the states of Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand. Several Union Ministers and all Members of Parliament of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been invited for participation in the event across the country. 4. The 80th Convention of Soil Science is celebrating a national level event at Bengaluru. The ICAR is organizing farmers’ meetings, workshops on soil health and soil resources and distribution of soil health cards across its 539 Centres/ Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs).Fertilizer Association of India (FAI) is devoting one session to ‘Soil Health Enhancement’ in its Annual Seminar 2015 on 3rd December, 2015. The session will discuss, Soil Resources and Sustainable Development, Fertilizers and Soil Health, Harnessing Potential of Soil Microorganisms and Industry Initiatives for Sustainable Soil Management. 5. State Governments are organizing two weeks long campaign to spread the message on Soil Health Management. About one crore Soil Health Cards will be distributed to the farmers across the country by December 31, 2015 beginning with World Soil Day. 6. At the state level, State Chief Ministers and Agricultural Ministers are addressing farmers’ meetings and distributing Soil Health Cards to them. In some states workshops are organized to exchange best practices in the balanced use of fertilizers. 7. The District Collectors are leading the ‘Healthy Soils Campaign’ with the involvement of Krishi Vigyan Kendras and active participation of the people’s representatives of Union and the States. Farmers, members of SHGs/VOs and Mahila Kisaan of Shashaktikaran Pariyojana will participate in the occasion. Some films on balance use of fertilizers, soil health card, waste to compost etc. will be screened. Fertilizer Companies and 9 PSUs under Department of Fertilizers are organizing awareness activities for farmers in districts and villages.

8. Programmes are finalized at the district, block and village level in various states. Banners / posters will be displayed at prominent places in rural area and fertiliser dealer / retailer sale points. Canopy campaign at prominent / strategic places and puppet shows are organized. Promotional material is ready for distribution among farmers along with SMSs and video spots. Agriculture fair and exhibition are organized in various districts.
9. Soil Health Card campaign across the country will be organized through print
advertisements in local and national newspapers at 15 days interval starting 5th December, 2015. Video spots and radio jingles will be telecast from 2nd December and at an interval of 15 days after 5th December, 2015. Farmer’s education programmes will be telecast on the day.
