While waiting, I engaged in conversation with a lady who shared that she really needed to find a full-time job…she had been taking care of her mother who had died recently. She was also dealing with “starting over again.” Her husband had recently left her with no money in the family bank account. She was obviously not destitute, but her upper middle class life was gone. Since she had no family, she was worrying about her future --both financially and as a suddenly single 60-year old. She mentioned that she would be meeting a friend for dinner later that night. After nearly two hours, the technicians could not find the reason my car would not start; it was now starting perfectly….so they decided not to charge me. As I said “goodbye” to the lady, I explained the generosity money from our Church and mentioned that I wanted her to use the $10 for dinner with her friend. Tears were in her eyes as she thanked me. She said she really didn’t need it. However, I think this simple act helped her know that I cared and most importantly, God cared for her. We hugged and I promised she would be in my prayers. The postscript to this story --my car is starting perfectly as though I needed to be at this particular dealership at that particular point in time so that I could be a momentary part of someone’s life.
