Dear Friends:
I cannot believe October is here as we begin our 14th month together; there has been a lot of water over the
dam. We began last fall with the Faithful Member Canvass to introduce people to the ministries of the
congregation and the relationship between time, talent, and treasure and what we do in the world. In the
winter we hosted Spiritual Gifts Workshops to give our members an opportunity to discern where they are
being called by God in ministry. In the spring we put in a huge amount of effort in the long process of
restoring our campus as befits a House of Prayer—a process still underway by virtue of so many tireless
ministers in their giving back of self. In the summer we hosted Carrie’s+ ordination, and then the baptism
and confirmation of 17 persons, two glorious affairs, opportunities seized by the Holy Spirit to empower
us to do the work we are called to do, yet to leave the results to God. Finally it is fall again. We have
come full circle and we look forward again to some education, this time in Extravagant Generosity, the
Spirit driven process whereby our gratitude comes to govern and direct our giving back.
I hope you will pay close attention to all the readings for Sunday, October 7. They are well integrated in
the theme of God’s creating work, of the special blessings that accrue to humankind in God’s creating
work, and of the obligations we inherit in gratitude for what God has done for us and continues to do.
We will have a series of three brief Cottage Meetings in the parish hall after church the first three Sundays
of October, and you are already hearing what you need to know about the details from Greg Euston. The

Kudos to Jane Carr, who worked tirelessly these past few months as our President. The crowning achievement was organizing the Bishop’s Reception for Sept. 23rd. She also made the beautiful sheet cake with flowers and “God Bless all of You” on the top.
We have set a date for our next
Garage Sale: November 10th. We
have a over a month yet to plan on it,
but try to keep your articles for us
as space is limited at the church. If
you must bring them sooner, we keep
them behind the "Fence" on stage in
the Chapel. The Garage Sale is a great
way for our church to supplement our
income and is already part of our
budget. The last one netted around
$1,000.00.
The ECW also
raises money
with our bake
Sale.
“
Thank you” doesn’t seem enough . . .
While it is pleasantly fresh in my mind, I want to say “thank you” to all
of you who went the extra mile for our worship service of Baptism and
Confirmation on September 23. There are literally dozens of parishion-
ers who worked on the campus, the church, the parish hall, and the
logistical details to make the Bishop’s episcopal visitation a glorious
affair. “The Holy Spirit was bouncing off the walls,” a friend of mine
used to say.
Thanks, too, for your kind applause - and I didn’t even have to say,
“Will the congregation please rise”! You were all exceedingly self-
giving. I cannot remember in the nine churches Nancy and I have
served hearing more gracious words from my Bishop or response from
my congregation.
Faithfully,
Fr. Reed+
Busy hands worked to create the
dishes for the Bishop’s Reception on
Sept. 23rd. The weather was beautiful
and many enjoyed the sunshine out-
side on the deck. Father Reed &
Rev. Carrie worked with all the folks
who were to be baptized, confirmed
and received. The Bishop, Rt. Rev.
John Howard remarked that he was
impressed with the all the organiza-
tion, and everyone seemed to have a
great time.

GIVING BACK Greg Euston
Beginning in October, we will introduce “Extravagant Generosity”, our stewardship campaign for 2013. We will be reaching out to you in letters, services, prayers and meetings to share the idea that generous sharing is a core value of Christianity, and that we show our discipleship by sharing to the fullest extent God’s gifts of time, talent and treasure.
Your first letter will arrive in late September and include a booklet entitled “Practicing Extravagant Generosity, Daily Readings on the Grace of Giving.”
On the 7th, 14th and 21st of October, we will have a "Cottage Meeting" in the Parish Hall immediately following our service. In these meetings we will elaborate on Extravagant Generosity and give you some information regarding our Ministries and finances. You will receive an invitation to one of the meetings that are expected to last about 60 minutes. The Extravagant Generosity giving back campaign will end on Commitment Sunday, October 28th.
It is pledge time again and there always seems to be a new twist on trying to get us to pledge and to do this in a spiritual manner instead of, we have to give to keep the doors open. There is never a good time to ask for money and this year is no different. I want to tell you how I feel...... this is pledging according to Dick.
If you give you are right, it is that simple. The part that always gets in the way is why we give and how much. How much is also pretty easy, the Bible says 10%. Please let’s get this stumbling block out of the way. Although, if the IRS was like God that 10% sounds pretty good to me. Ha! I have figured out over my 65 years, that the more you have the harder it is to give it up. This is Human Nature. 10% of a dollar is .10 cents, this is not much and 10% of one hundred thousand dollars is $10,000. That is a lot of money and can buy a lot of neat stuff. If the person who has $1 gives .10 cents and the person who has $100,000 and gives $5000, in God's eye who has given the most? It is hard to commit to giving up that much money, Kitty and I started out small and are working our way up. If you have never pledged before, 10% can be a challenge and if you cannot keep your pledge current that could be discouraging. Resurrection is having financial problems. We barely pay the bills and we have repairs that we can-not afford to do at this time. I am sure you have noticed the lack of paint on the Sanctuary. Our budget is based on what is pledged and what we think we will get from the non-pledged offerings.

This beautiful creature came to visit the

She held her finger over her lips, and

Dear Friends,
The confirmation service on Sept. 23rd was a
grand occasion for the participants and for the
worshipers. We had another glimpse of how
joyful our service can be with a full house of an-
ticipatory worshipers. Thanks to all who
made the celebration and the refreshments successful.
The month of October will be a very busy month for me. During the
first three Sundays, we will participate in the Extravagant Generosity
Program. On October 6th, I will be joining our acolytes at the
St. John’s Cathedral in Jacksonville for the Diocesan
Acolyte Festival. This will be an all day event where the acolytes will
participate in a grand procession and will divide into groups to attend
acolyte workshops.
From October 15th through the 17th, I will be in Baltimore, MD with
my seminary classmates. We will begin the first of three yearly train-
ing sessions for newly ordained priests. This program, called
The Second Three Years Program, is funded in part by the Lilly
Foundation. It is designed to provide post-graduate support to recent
graduates of the school. The support includes mentor support, contin-
uing education, and brings ideas from parishes and schools throughout
the country. The head of this program is The Rev. Dr. Allison St. Louis
who was my ordination speaker.
Additionally, during October, I will be serving as a Spiritual Director
on a Women’s Cursillo weekend. One pre-meeting was held last
month; another one will be held on Oct. 12th-13th. The actual
weekend will be held on the25th through 28th of October at Camp
Weed. This means that I will not be at the service on the 4th Sunday of
October, which is our commitment Sunday.

To Pledge or Not to Pledge
Non-pledged funds can be the tricky ones because
we have to assume that we will get at least what
we have received last year. The problem of
non-pledges ( from a budget standpoint) is that
if the person has an unexpected bill then that
money may not come to the church. We find it
hard to pledge with all the other commitments
we are faced with on a monthly basis. When
you see our financial reports the designated fund
always has more money than our general fund.
We cannot use the designated money to pay our
bills, the money is designated (given by
someone) for a specific reason.
I think a reason some people do not pledge is
they do not feel connected to the church.
They come to church, they are a member of the
church, but they are just not ready to make that
commitment. Now, I do not pretend to know
how to get that connection. Kitty and I have
that connection to Resurrection.
Resurrection is our church and we have taken
possession.

To Pledge or Not To Pledge
I feel that God is at Resurrection and that Father Reed and everyone
there is there for us, to help us be a
Christian and I think that is pretty cool. I do not think there is an exact
formula to be a Christian and I think
there are many paths to God as long as it is through Jesus Christ. I
personally think pledging is part of
that process. It is not just giving money to the church, it is a
commitment. I always like what
Conan said in the movie …
Cont’d. ...
Cont’d. ...To Pledge…
Conan the Barbarian, “what does
not kill you makes you stronger,” and
trust me, pledging will not kill you.
It will make you Stronger and
Change your life. Resurrection is
fueled by faith not money. The love
you get at Resurrection is free and
costs us nothing to give. To have a
place to do this does costs $$. That
is just the way it is. God will
provide and we are his providers.
The more we give the more we get.
In my life God has not given me
everything I have wanted, (Darn) but
what He has done is given me more
then I need. I have failed to see this
many times in my life but as Kitty
tells me, “even a worm can learn”. If
you are not ready to make this
commitment, that's O.K.
Keep coming because God loves you
and we love you. Keeping our faith
is more important than a pledge.
Like I said, “If you give you are
right.”
