Welcome to CedartreeCedartree Products Ltd is a young and dynamic company, manufacturing and distributing an attractiverange of products to the broad description of ‘outdoor living’.
Cedartree is a family-owned business with a manufacturing base in Chesterfield, and more recently inStokenchurch, Buckinghamshire. As the name implies, we manufacture entirely from Western RedCedar. All our roofs are made from Western Red Cedar shingle tiles.
Small, but highly capable, our company is able to offerour customers, a range of quality products…. attractivelydesigned, attractively priced and delivered and installedby us at your own premises.
Attractively designed? …. Beauty is in the eye of thebeholder, but our raw material, cedar, is recognised asbeing one of the most beautiful products of nature. Witha rich variety of yellow, cream and brown colours, it has abeautiful mellow and mature appearance, not tomention the distinctive aroma for which it is renowned. But added to the material excellence, the design of ourproducts, which is generally recognised as being “onestep further” e.g. the selection of attractively-shapedboarding and panelling; the shape of the roof supportbrackets; the double angle of the roof; the presentationof the facia boards; the “swept heads” to the windows….. all making our products look “that little bit different”and putting them in a league of their own.
Attractively priced? …. How can one easily compareprices without a very finite comparison of qualities andmaterials? But we ask you to do this please. You will findthat on a like for like basis, our products are excellentlypositioned in the market. There are a number of reasonsfor this….
Firstly,we have drastically shortened the lines of supply.
We regularly visit British Columbia in Canada…. thehome of Western Red Cedar. We buy direct from thelargest sawmills in the area. Those sawmills own theirown cedar forests. In simple terms, we buy directly fromthe people that harvest the tree.
We manufacture.
And then we supply directly to the person that buys theend product…. i.e. you, our customer.
It could not be simpler, it could not be more
advantageous to you, the buyer.
We are not buying from a multitude of timbermerchants. We are not supplying via retail outlets.
This means that you are buying a very high qualityproduct at a very advantageous price.
Secondly, we are specialist manufacturers withsophisticated machinery, concentrating on manufacturinga limited range of products in a very efficient way. Ouroverheads are kept to the minimum. We offer a directsupply service.
And how do we interpret the word “service”? We believein a friendly response to your initial approach to us. Webelieve in speedy attention to your requirements, bethey for brochures, quotations or further information. Webelieve in visiting you in your home to discuss yourparticular requirements in detail. We believe in a discreetand direct supply to your home with our qualifiedinstallers. We believe in after sales service and attention.
Why cedar?…. We have separate questions and answersand fact sheets, and with particular reference to thisquestion. But in essence, cedar has been chosen by usafter very careful research into a number of alternatives.Western Red Cedar is technically known as Thujaplicata.,and sometimes referred to as Arborvitae …. “Tree ofLife”. It grows extensively in an area going from theNorth Western states of America e.g Washington andOregon, up through British Columbia to Alaska. Treesgrow to a massive height of 45 – 60 metres, and a girthof 22 metres. The tallest in the world is 55 metres andthe oldest is over 2,000 years old.
Cedar has a large number of attributes, but for us, it’simportance is as follows:
Decay Resistance – most other timbers will rot in thefullness of time, and particularly when in contact withthe ground. For that reason, many of the cheapermaterials need to be “tanalised” or protected withcopper chrome arsenate or similar preservatives appliedby vacuum pressure or the like. Not so with cedar. Cedarhas its own “built in” preservative…. technically knownas thujaplicins or thujic acid…. a substance which MotherNature provided to the cedar tree to enable it to survivenaturally, and to have its own in-built resistance to fungalattack. Some cedar tree trunks have been found inswamps and carbon-aged dated to be more than 2,000years old.
And so we are able to provide you with a material thathas not suffered or needs to be further treated with anyform of toxic preservative. This is a massive advantage, both economically and aesthetically. And we also avoidthe need to introduce other potentially harmful additives.
Secondly, cedar is renown for its dimensional stability.Cedar absorbs far less ambient moisture than othertimbers. When it becomes wet and subsequently dries, the absorption and evaporation is considerably less. Thisenables it to keep its original dimensions. If left out “inthe elements”, cedar will not “cup” or warp to anythinglike the extent of other timbers. It has an amazing abilityto retain its original shape. This means that cedarboarding will not curl or warp significantly. Why else
should North Americans have built most of their homeswith cedar bevel siding? … and their roofs with cedarshingles?
And thirdly, cedar is lightweight. Particularly when airdried. This helps us in manufacture, and most particularly,it enables us to make large roof sections under factory-controlled conditions. We can also physically deliver andlift to site with the minimum cost to be passed on to thecustomer.
And fourthly, cedar is renowned for its high insulationvalue. In sound insulation terms, this is rarely a benefit….only if you make guitars out of cedar! But it is anadvantage in situations like cedar clad home officebuildings, garden studios and music centres, where it’sability to damp vibrations is an important acousticproperty.
But most particularly, it is an excellent heat insulator. This is of great advantage in the manufacture of saunas, hot tubs…. and all our buildings, be they furtherinsulated or not.
And next, cedar is highly porous and therefore extremelywell placed for accepting paint and other finishes.Paint and other textures can be applied very simply andvery economically, giving you, our customer, theopportunity to express your individual requirements, botheffectively and economically.
A major advantage is that cedar is readily available.Grown and harvested over vast areas of territory, cedar is
a widely available material. The price of cedar istherefore not subject to restrictions of supply shortages.
But finally, cedar is, by any standards, a beautifulproduct of nature. It gives our “Cedartree” products anattractive appearance, which is appreciated by so many.
Cedar’s future is protected. Our supplier’s woodlandsoperations are located on publicly-owned land in Canada. They meet or exceed all provincial governmentregulations and have achieved independent third-partycertification of their sustainable forest managementpractices. Our suppliers were the first Canadian companyto join the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®)program and have maintained certification on itsoperations since 2001. Their SFI certification is endorsedby PEFC™ which is recognized globally. In addition theyhold a Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certificate inthe Mid-Coast region of British Columbia. It can safely besaid that the cedar re-planting and cedar managementprogrammes are a positive, rather than negative, in ourworld concerns about the future of the planet.
We have recently opened a new facility in Stokenchurchin Buckinghamshire. We have chosen this locationbecause of its excellent relationship to the motorwaynetwork. Stokenchurch lies on the M40, junction 6, andour facility is within half a mile of that junction. We havea 4,500 square foot warehouse and manufacturing area, and are building up an extensive display of productssuitable for children, adults and senior folks alike. Ourrange includes play equipment and play lodges for theyounger folk. Cedar cottages for all ages. Cedar cabinetedhot tubs and Swimgyms for aquatherapy and waterrelaxation. A range of Cedarlodges in both octagonal, square and rectangular form, and each in an attractiverange of sizes.
And most particularly, our “mix and match” approach tooffering our customers a wide range of choices. From thebasic structure through to the “roof on posts”, and with awide choice of floors and fill in sides, by way ofballustrading, doors, different style windows etc. Atremendous choice, where from our manufacturing pointof view, the basic elements are the same, but from thecustomer’s perspective, the choice is very extensive.
Cedartree…. “Making The Best of Nature”…. Yes,manufacturing in the UK. Yes, a family business. Yes,responsibly using the very best of nature’s produce. Andtherefore making the best for our customers.

Hello, and welcome to the world ofCedarlodges.Cedarlodge is a generic term that we use to describe all thebuildings that we make for the home and garden.
Firstly, we manufacture in 3 different shapes as toOCTAGONAL, SQUARE, and RECTANGULAR.
And then in each shape, we make a number of different sizes, which are listed as follows:
SQUARE – 2.5 metre square, 3 metre square, 4 metre square
RECTANGULAR – 2.5 metre x 3.5 metre, 3 metre x 5 metre, 4metre x 6 metre
But we offer a particularly interesting feature .. We give thecustomer an extremely wide choice of designs and“selections” which vary from the Basic Structure right the waythrough to a very complex structure with insulated roof, walls, floor, choice of window and door styles etc.
In the photographs on this page, we present a gallery of miscellaneous selections, and the
captions help you to identify the shape, size and particularselection.
We particularly take the examples of the octagonal 3 and thesquare 3 and show this one building in a number of differentstages.
And on the following 2 pages, we set out a “grid system”showing the prices, including and excluding VAT, and for allthe components in the entire range.
This enables you to build up the pricing of your chosen design.
BUT…. to make it easier for you, we then follow on in theensuing pages with a multi-page reference to any particularsize and style.
Everyone understands the advantage of producing in batchproduction, and the economies that that gives us, which wecan pass on to our customers. And we can batch produce allthe elements shown on the following pages. The Cedar Cottage
The very original style and designof the Cedar Cottage harkens back to the nomadic tribes of northern Scandinavia…
With pyramidically-shaped tents where whole families lived and cooked their meals. We have adapted this basic idea to thedevelopment of the cedar cottage. It is available either free-standing on level ground, alternatively raised on support posts, and with access via a small ladder. And also the option of terracing fitted in segmental form around the outside of thebuilding, with attractive light-coloured barrier rope to form an edge detail.
And inside, the extraordinary 8-sided shape gives the cedar cottage an unusually high degree of “cosiness”.We can supply with or without an atrium roof light system. We can supply with or without internal benching.
We can supply in 2 or 3 different sizes…. giving you and your family a superb choice of cottages to suit so many applications...teenage rumpus rooms, hot tub buildings, barbecue houses, home office, socialising and entertaining areas.. The applicationsare endless.

Cedarlodge Hot TubCombinations
We offer a wide range of attractive Hot Tubs. We offer awide range of attractive Cedarlodges. In isolation, both of them are attractively-priced and attractively-styled, but put thetwo together and you enjoy the best of all worlds. The pricing is more favourablebecause we enjoy the benefits of delivering two products to one site. And theseadvantages are passed on to you in an attractive “combination price”.
We have taken a number of different selections, but as per the whole section onCedarlodges, it is up to you to “mix and match” to suit your particular requirements.
If we can help, please do not hesitate to call us and/or ask us to visit you to discussyour particular needs.
How many people have heard of a swim spa? A product gaining increasing worldwideacceptance as combining the benefits of aswimming pool and a hot tub, but Cedartreehave taken it a stage further. The Swimgym is modular, and as the photographs illustrate, it can befed in through the smallest of apertures, even a window. This offers ahuge number of advantages, enabling customers to use a convertedgarage, an unwanted outbuilding, a spare room, a conservatory or abeautiful Cedartree Swim Lodge.
And it looks most attractive. With profiled boarding, the product looksnatural. Natural in an indoor setting. Natural in a garden setting.
And with the “cutting edge” technology of the world’s pool industry,a dazzling array of high quality equipment in the way ofcountercurrent swimming systems, heating, heat pump heating, underwater lights, water filtration and water treatment…. Everythingthat goes towards making the maintenance simple and the runningcosts minimal.
So, why is it called a Swimgym? Because it is a product that offers achoice of health activities and to the degree and extent that youchoose in your own home environment. When you want to. Inprivacy. With friends and family. Or on your own.
And above all, a fabulous degree of insulation and heat retention. We are all increasingly aware of the need to conserve energy, toconserve rain forests and to save the planet!
And to a point where it has been said that traditional garden poolscould one day become illegal because of the waste of energy. Andthis is where the Swimgym comes into its own. With massiveinsulation beneath the pool, and most particularly in the walls (seethe photographs), the Swimgyms heat is retained and conserved. Andparticularly with the floating or slatted pool cover. The result?Unbelievably low running costs coupled with the ability to set atemperature at a level that is a pleasure for all year round.
And with the superb choice of countercurrent swimming systems, theability to take exercise with varying degrees of strenuousness byswimming “on the spot”, happy in the knowledge that you will tirelong before your Swimgym.
Swimgym…. A superb investment in fun and “wellness”.
For pricing, please contact us so that we can discuss your specificinterest and requirements.
Availability and pricing will depend on location and the proximity ofservicing centres. An indicative price would be £12,000 - £15,000including VAT. This being an indicative price for the pool structure, heating, filtration, powerstream counter current unit, full insulation, insulated cover, plant housing, and delivery and installation.

Questions & AnswersWhy Cedar? This is the most frequently asked question, andwe have covered our answer fairly extensivelyin the introduction to this brochure on page 2& 3. Our commentary there sets out the many, many advantages of cedar by way of a)attractiveness, b) dimensional stability andresistance to warping and benching, c)resistance to decay because of cedar’s “builtin” anti-fungal acids and agents, d) thelightweight characteristics of cedar, e) thethermal insulative qualities of cedar…. to namebut a few.
Are Your Suppliers Members of InternationalForest Stewardship Organisations? Why Cedar?
Yes. We buy direct from sawmills in BritishColumbia, Canada, and their woodlandsoperations are located on publicly-owned landin Canada. They meet or exceed all provincialgovernment regulations and have achievedindependent third-party certification of theirsustainable forest management practices. Oursuppliers were the first Canadian company tojoin the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®)program and have maintained certification onits operations since 2001. Their SFI certificationis endorsed by PEFC™ which is recognizedglobally. In addition they hold a ForestStewardship Council® (FSC®) certificate in theMid-Coast region of British Columbia. It cansafely be said that the cedar re-planting andcedar management programmes are apositive, rather than negative, in our worldconcerns about the future of the planet.
Does Cedar Require Maintenance?Yes, there is no doubt about this. All timberschange with exposure to the elements and
cedar is no exception.
The great advantage of cedar is that it has anextraordinarily high resistance to rot and decaybecause of its inbuilt “thujaplicins” which arenaturally occurring in Western Red Cedar, andprotect the timber against fungal decay, without the need to further add preservativetreatments, which run the risk of being toxic.
Left exposed to the elements, and mostparticularly if left exposed to direct brightsunlight, cedar will turn a very attractive silverycolour. Some people specify cedar particularlyfor this feature. Others prefer to retain theoriginal multicoloured appearance…. a richblend of brown, cream and yellow. We canprovide the appropriate cedar maintenanceoils, and depending on location and aspect, atreatment is usually needed every 6-12months. Because of the porous nature of cedar,it is very easily and quickly applied. A typicalgarden structure for instance, taking probably amaximum of one hour. It is simply applied byeither brush or roller, and the dramatic resultsmake it very satisfying.
In the Case of Cedarlodges, Do I NeedPlanning Permission? In the great majority of cases, planningpermission is not necessary… particularly in aresidential situation. This is becausedevelopments in private gardens typically fallunder the title of Permitted Development.
This pertains as long as the building 1) is notpositioned between your house and ahighway, 2) is less than 4 metres high or, ifwithin 2 metres of a boundary is less than 2.5metres high, 3) along with any additional
outbuildings, does not cover more than halfthe original ground area of the property, 4) ispositioned 5 metres away from your house.
Planning permission may be required forproperties situated in conservation areas, listedbuildings, and areas of Outstanding NaturalBeauty.
WTo What Extent Can Cedartree OfferBespoke Structures?Basically we offer the size ranges shown in thisbrochure. The variety and versatility however,is provided by the great number of variationsand “Selections” that we can offer within acertain building/size type. In earlier pages, wecover, in the case of Cedarlodges, the manyoptions that are available, and by a process of“mix and match”, our customers can usuallyget exactly what they want, and yet it being“something different”.
Is the Price of Delivery and InstallationIncluded?Yes, the price usually includes delivery andinstallation. However, there are certain areasand distance bands where we make asurcharge. Please check the detail of our pricelist.
Does the Price Include VAT?Yes, our prices include VAT at the current rate of20% (as at April 2012). We show, throughoutthe brochure, our prices ex VAT and inc VAT, assome of our customers…. particularly ouroverseas customers….. are VAT exempt and/orVAT is recoverable, and therefore we show itfor clarity.
What Guarantee Is There on CedartreeProducts? We offer a 15 year guarantee against timberrot and decay. In addition, we offer a 1 yearguarantee for all other components, and a 5year guarantee on our canvas covers.
Does Cedartree Manufacture, or SimplyImport?Emphatically, we manufacture. We import fromCanada our basic Western Red Cedar materials, but we have a factory in Chesterfield andStokenchurch involved in the manufacturefrom raw material to finished product. Truly“Made in Britain” by a family business.
Do you Make Home Visits?Yes, we will be pleased to do so, and give youour advice. And follow up with a quotation anda design and layout, suitable for yourrequirements.
