Forms & Fibers features the fiber and sculptural artwork by prominent Wisconsin artists, richard and Nina Edelman. Sculptor richard edelman grew up in

milwaukee and graduated from Nicolet High School. After a long career in the steel industry among mills, foundries, and manufacturers, richard began his life in metal sculpture almost 10 years ago. Working in steel, stainless steel, and bronze his works are at all scales. His major public installations in Wisconsin are in Door County and throughout Milwaukee.

Nina edelman has been fascinated with fabrics since she learned how to make doll clothes at age six. Through her high school years at Nicolet and college years at uW-madison, she continued sewing. Working as a school librarian near Boston, she became caught up with the excitement of colonial crafts at the time of the Bicentennial and began quilting with students. She continued teaching sewing and quilting at Milwaukee Jewish Day School. Recent large commissions of her artwork can be seen at Congregation emanuel-el in river Hills and Deerwood Crossing in Brown Deer.

The Cedarburg Plein Air is one of Cedarburg’s most celebrated art events. Doors open and sign up begins at 6:15 pm Open mic starts at 7 pm and continues until approximately 9:00pm. There is no cover charge, and all ages are welcome!

The Blueburg Café at the Cedarburg Cultural Center offers “Plug and Play” Open Mic nights showcasing musicians, singers, poets, dancers, comedians, filmmakers and story tellers. Amplification and microphones are provided. Performers will appear on stage on a first-

come, first on-stage basis, with management reserving the right to move performances to best showcase the talent. Each performer will have approximately 5 minutes on the stage. Filmmakers must call in advance to insure proper equipment is available. The Café’s full bar offers drink specials, beer, wine and soft drinks.

Talent Incubator!The Center’s new Talent Incubater offers an array of resources including seminars and classes designed to foster professional development for visual and performing artists, as well as a creative outlet with exhibition space and the stage of the Blueburg Café. “Alla Prima” is derived from an Italian phrase meaning, “at first attempt.” The goal with an alla prima painting is to finish the painting in one sitting.

Paintings done alla prima often have an energy and sense of spontaneity to them that comes from working quickly and capturing an image in one session. This class will take students through

a series of exercises to help build confidence and comfort with alla prima painting. Students will learn techniques for applying paint and building a surface without layering or waiting for things to dry. class emphasizes the basic painting disciplines of composition, color and form while using plants as our subject matter. About the Instructor: Frank Juarez is a Wisconsin artist, gallery owner, art educator, arts advocate and community leader living and teaching in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. In 2005, he committed his life to expose, educate and engage others on the importance of experiencing and supporting

the Visual Arts. Juarez is the art department chair at Sheboygan North High School. He is actively involved in local, regional and state arts organization such as the Wisconsin Art education Association, National Art education Association, milwaukee Artist resource Network, Cedarburg Cultural Center, and Arts Wisconsin. In 2011, he opened his art gallery, Frank Juarez Gallery, in Sheboygan.

Artist Sue Lawton will take you through the process she used to publish her own book “The Circus and the Cyclone,” from developing an idea, all the way to opening that first box of finished books! We’ll look at creative options that go beyond the bounds of traditional literary and art genres, how to choose a printer, and how to fund a project using Kickstarter.com. This process can be used not only for the written word, but can also be extended to art books, prints and many other creative projects. About the Instructor: Local artist and author Sue Lawton grew up in Grafton. Riveredge Nature Center and more. Instructors will take young artists ages 17 and under through an inspiring exploration of a variety of scenery culminating with a free entry into the Cedarburg Cultural Center’s Youth Outdoor Art Contest (“en plein air”) June 11-21. Art campers will learn skills geared for creative outdoor work including lighting, perspective, shading, capturing the details of plants and animals, landscapes, architectural elements and much more. Camp includes supplies, a snack and a special tour at each location. Campers ages 5 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Whooo..whooo...whooo’s that out there? Night comes, and with it our old friend, Mr. Owl. A flashlight hike, evening snack and

exciting art projects inspired by those awesome creatures of the night in one ultra-fun overnight art experience, all topped off with Riveredge’s famous pancake breakfast the following morning. In short, it’ll be a HOOT! Students will sleep “under the stars” in sleeping bags, under mosquito netting (weather providing.) In the case of rain, students will sleep indoors. We also are looking ahead to the annual Architectural Treasures Tour on Saturday and Sunday, August 3 & 4, 2013, and need ticket takers and tour guides. Milwaukee County Zoo The Milwaukee County Zoo is home to more than 2,200 animals with more than 330 species represented. You’ll have the

opportunity to hand feed giraffes at the Miller Brewing Company Giraffe Experience, ride the Sky Safari, a 35-foot high

sky ride, or be entertained by one of the zoo’s live shows. This summer, visitors will be able to visit the special exhibit

“Butterflies! In Living Color” which will feature more than 500 beautiful native North American butterflies. Betty Brinn Children’s MuseumBetty Brinn Children’s Museum is the only museum designed specifically for kids ages ten and under and their grown-ups!

The museum, which Parents magazine named “one of the nation’s top children’s museums to visit”, features a variety of

hands-on exhibits and interactive programs.

Discovery World Discovery World’s 12,000 square foot facility on the shores of Lake Michigan has a vast array of attractions and exhibits

that will excite the whole family. Some of the museum’s highlights include interactive science, technology and freshwater

exhibits, learning labs, theaters, television and audio studios, freshwater aquariums and much more! Milwaukee Brewers Enjoy the excitement of Major League Baseball at one of the best ballparks in the country, Miller Park. The Brewers

regular season runs from April through September, so you’ll have plenty of time to come out and watch your favorite

players, sample the wide array of ballpark cuisine and cheer on the famous Klement’s Racing Sausages. Miller Park is also

available for behind-the-scenes tours which include visits to the visiting clubhouse, press box, Bob Uecker’s broadcast

booth and more. Tour routes and times are subject to change based on the game schedule. Mitchell Park Domes The Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory is one of Milwaukee’s most recognizable tourist attractions. The three domes

each represent a different climate - a desert oasis, a tropical jungle and special floral gardens - to remind us of the Earth’s

unique diversity of plant and animal species that are vital to our own survival. Brew City

Miller Brewing Miller Brewery still sits on the land originally purchased by Frederick J. Miller, founder of Miller Brewing Company, in

1855. The brewery offers free guided tours year round. Visitors will get to witness each step of the brewing process,

sample a variety of Miller products, and learn the rich history of the company and its role in making Milwaukee “Brew

City”.

Lakefront Brewery Founded in 1987 by brothers Russ and Jim Klisch, Lakefront Brewery is right on the Milwaukee River in a building once

used to house the Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light Company. Since then, the Lakefront Brewery tour has become one

of the most popular and unique tours in the city, with visitors getting the chance to sample beer at the start of the tour

while hearing about the history of Lakefront and the brewing process. Sprecher Brewery Milwaukee’s original microbrewery, Sprecher has been producing award-winning beers and gourmet sodas since 1985. A

tour of the facility shows visitors how Sprecher revives the Old World brewing traditions that continue to make Milwaukee

famous. After the tour visitors are able to enjoy Sprecher¹s indoor beer tent with samples of Sprecher beers and sodas. Riverwalk Boat Tours Riverwalk Boat Tours offers weekend brewery tours throughout the summer. You’ll cruise the Milwaukee River on the

40-person “Brew City Queen II” or the 30-person “Milwaukee Maiden.” Each tour lasts four hours and takes you to three

of Milwaukee’s most popular locations to sample the city’s microbrews: the Milwaukee Ale House, Lakefront Brewery, and

Rock Bottom Brewery.

Pabst Mansion This Flemish Renaissance Revival mansion was the home of famous Milwaukee brewery owner Captain Frederick Pabst.

The Pabst family lived in the home from 1892 until 1908, when it became the residence of the Archbishop of Milwaukee.

The house was opened to the public in 1978 and has been restored and conserved for future generations. The home

features exquisite wood, glass and ironwork and gives a glimpse into what life was like for the Pabst family in 19th

century Milwaukee.

ries Bayshore Town CenterBayshore Town Center is located approximately ten minutes north of Milwaukee in Glendale. This newly renovated outdoor

shopping center offers more than 130 stores, 20 dining options, and an upscale movie theater and bowling alley. Bayshore

also hosts an ongoing list of events throughout the year.

Historic Third WardThe Historic Third Ward is known as Milwaukee’s arts and fashion district for the number of boutique shops and art

galleries that are located there. The district is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and, over the years, has

been home to a large population of both Italian and Irish immigrants as well as a large number of factories and warehouses. Mayfair MallAt Mayfair Mall, you’ll find the latest fashions at one of more than 180 stores. The mall also houses several restaurants

along with an 18-screen movie theater. Located in Wauwatosa, approximately 15 minutes west of Milwaukee, some of

Mayfair’s highlights include a Macy’s, Sephora, Build-A-Bear Workshop and plenty more to meet all your shopping needs. Village of WauwatosaThe Village of Wauwatosa, a short drive west of downtown Milwaukee, is a charming riverside village filled with unique

shops and gourmet dining. No matter what you’re looking for, you’re sure to find it in Wauwatosa!

Brady StreetBrady Street stretches nine blocks from Lake Michigan west to the Milwaukee River. Full of restaurants, shops, taverns,

lounges, salons and cafes, Brady Street is also host to several events throughout the year including Flower Power and the

Brady Street Festival.
