With its novel connection technology, the
eXLink plug-and-socket connector system
is the decisive step towards a safe future.
Connecting and disconnecting electrical
apparatus in hazardous environments,
simplified installation and servicing:
– without tools
– without isolating
– without hot-work permit
That doesn't just increase operating safety,
it also cuts costs – sustainably!
Connecting and disconnecting
apparatus in hazardous areas without
any tools, without isolation or the need
for a hot-work permit is the decisive step
towards a future in which installation,
service and repair of electrical equipment
is simpler, safer and more cost-efficient
to handle.
A complete system of practical components
and modules provide our clients with com-
prehensive solutions.
These connectors are used in power
supplies for moveable on-site controls,
electrical systems and moveable machines
and drives as well as for actuators and
sensors in hazardous areas as well as
for quick connection of explosion-protected
apparatus in hazardous and industrial
environments.
Areas of application for eXLink are found
in the entire field of electrical installations
in hazardous and industrial environments
with high demands on product durability.● indoor and outdoor installations● in nearly all industrial environments● use without additional protective
measures● highest degree of protection with type
IP 66 and IP 68● process-oriented installation for extreme
temperature ranges● high-quality contact system allows for
currents in the mA range as well as for
amperages of up to 10 A● bus-bar ready, Fieldbus-Foundation,
Profibus DP

The use of eXLink is especially efficient for
apparatus which has to be mounted quickly
or replaced and serviced frequently.
● distributions for sensors, actuators and
measuring lines● retrofitting and extensions of plug-in
modules even for industrial applications● panel, tubular and other heating systems● disconnection of terminal devices within
complex apparatus systems● flexible installation for tank lorries, oil
tankers and in vehicle connection systems● small units without cables for snap-on or
flange mounting● bus-bar technology for Ex-e and Ex-i con-
nection of valves, sliders and actuators● measuring-and-control technology
connection e.g. for sensors, actuators,
terminal devices for distributors and
transducers● transportable, moveable apparatus such
as scales or pumps

All eXLink components in moulded plastic
or metal can be interconnected and are fully
compatible with the miniCLIX system from
R. Stahl Schaltgeräte GmbH.

With the eXLink system, saving is a snap.
How?
Instead of wiring your actuators and sen-
sors via conventional cable entries and
terminals, just use the new explosion-
protected eXLink connectors.
The big advantage:
All units in the Ex-area can be safely and
reliably connected and disconnected during
ongoing operation
– without tools
– without isolating
– without hot-work permit
– without electrical engineering specialists
– without delay time

How does that add up?
Let's take a system with 2000 measuring
points, a 15-year lifecycle and an average
failure rate for repair of 5% and for mainte-
nance of 10% at two service intervals per
year. Of course we've taken a 5% annual
interest for the eXLink investment into ac-
count. Now, if you consider average hourly
rates and working hours, you come up with
a cost saving of about 42%, if you make
consistent use of eXLink.
Time comparison
Time is money – especially in Ex-areas!
Using eXLink, you not only save money,
but also a whole lot of valuable time –
in our example 9,505 hours in fact.
Instead of screwing on terminals, invest
in a snap-on future – thus saving time
and money. And, as an additional benefit,
you also increase safety, because the
faster you accomplish repair and mainte-
nance tasks, the safer your system.
Your personal saving
We'll gladly figure out how much you can
save by using eXLink, based on your
specific operating data.

The details
The self-cleaning Ex-e multi-contact
connectors provide permanent faultless
electrical connection thanks to their con-
tacts of punched and specially treated
copper-beryllium strips with multiple
contact points. To ensure that the contact
system remains fully functional even during
long-term use in aggressive environments,
all conducting pins are silver plated.
This proven technology has been success-
fully applied for numerous CEAG
products, such as the FB Remote I/O
or the eLLK 92.. NI/NIB.
Function
An Ex-d enclosure around the connector
pins provides explosion protection during
connection and disconnection. When plug-
ging in, first a mechanical connection of
the connector components is effected, and
the flameproof encapsulation of the pins
is attained. Then, the connector is turned
by 30° to its stop. Now the connector can
be clicked into place, closing the electrical
contacts. Subsequently, the connectors
are locked into place and sealed with a
lock nut. This three-phase process reliably
provides a safe and secure connection –
mechanically and electrically.
Practice-oriented design
The high degree of protection, IP 66/IP 68,
and the high-quality materials and enclosu-
res allow versatile application in hazardous
environments as well as in rough industrial
environments. Thus, corrosion-resistant,
impact-resistant polyamides as well
as nickel-plated brass or stainless steel
is available as enclosure material.

Certified retrofitting
By simple replacement of the cable entries
with eXLink apparatus connectors or flan-
ge sockets you can make your field device
immeasurably flexible – with Ex-certifica-
tion, of course.
Field devices with plug-and-socket connec-
tions can be used universally with eXLink
connectors – without great cost or effort
and without loss of Ex-certification. Simply
remove the conventional M20 connection
and replace it with an eXLink connector
which you wire to the terminals inside – and
your pre-assembled field device is finished.
Since eXLink, like all cable glands, has
its own Ex-certificate, your field device will
not be adversely affected for application
in hazardous areas.
Pre-assembled connection cables in usual
lengths with eXLink connectors and
couplers ideally complement your stock.
This means a high degree of flexibility and
an enormous saving in time for servicing
and repair in hazardous areas, as the
replacement of apparatus can be accom-
plished without tools or isolation. Your
service technician can do this on site
without an electrical engineering specialist,
who has other things to do.
The eXLink connector system has all
modules which can make your life easier:
apparatus plugs, sockets, flange sockets,
couplers and angle pieces, if there's
not much space or if the cable would be
kinked.
And on the connection side, eXLink is
open for all the usual types of connection.
Thus all components are available with
crimp connections, Quickon® or cage
clamp. So you're always on the safe side
for your wiring.
Your connection to the future:● replace present gland or cable entry with
