C-DAC Centre in North East at NIT Silchar


Establishment of C-DAC Centre

• The 11th C-DAC Centre in NE India established at NIT Silchar Campus.

• Inaugurated on 21st Feb, 2014 – Hon’ble Secretary, Sri J. Satyanarayana,

DeitY, MCIT, Govt. of India– Prof. Rajat Moona, DG, C-DAC, – Dr. Pradeep K Sinha, Sr. Director, C-DAC.

• Secretary’s views: Focus should be in one of the sixth Thematic areas of C-DAC.


Inauguration of C-DAC Centre


Current Activities

• Coordination & deployment of C-DAC Technologies in North East.

• Coordination on development of MIS for NIT Silchar and other NIT’s by C-DAC, Pune.

• Identification and offer of suitable C-DAC Diploma courses.

• Conduct of orientation program for NIT Silchar to provide the glimpses of various C-DAC PG Diploma courses.


Current Activities

• Offering Summer Internship to students of NIT Silchar at C-DAC Corporate and C-DAC Silchar.

• Conduct of skill development program for NE.• Execution of Joint Research Programmes

between C-DAC Silchar and NIT Silchar.• Exploration the possibility of developing web

based solutions for facilitating Police Force and other Law Enforcement Agencies in NE.


Activities Done

• 16 Students of NIT Silchar (CSE & ECE) got summer internship at C-DAC Pune from 15th May - 30th June 2014.

• Round table meet held for academia of NE region at NIT Silchar on 4th April, 2014.– Director, NIT Manipur was part of this round table meet.

• Joint research & PhD Guidance for Faculty of NIT Silchar.

NITS Supercomputing Centre


Establishment of HPC Centre

• MOU was signed between NIT Silchar and CDAC Pune on 25th May 2013 to establish HPC Centre at NIT Silchar.

• The state-of-the-art HPC Data Centre built by Sify Technologies, Kolkata and Servers/Clusters supplied by Netweb Technologies, New Delhi by open tender.

Specifications of NITS Supercomputing Centre

• NITS Supercomputing Centre is established in collaboration with C-DAC & it is one of the most powerful system in the North East India.

• Equipped with x86_64 bit based latest Intel Ivy Bridge processing and Accelerator (Intel Xeon Phi and Nvidia Kepler based Co-processing technologies).

• Interconnected with Mellanox FDR Infiniband with RHEL OS on servers.

• IBM Platform Computing (Job Scheduler, Cluster Manager, Integrated Portal for Job Submission) and Intel Cluster Studio having a compute power of approximately 15 Tera Flops.


Symposium/Workshops Organized

• 1st One Week National Symposium on High Performance Computing & Workshop on Parallel Computing held from 04th - 09th Apr 2014 in association with C-DAC Pune.

• Inaugurated by – Prof. L. M. Patnaik, IISc, Bangalore, – Dr. Pradeep K. Sinha, Sr. Director, C-DAC – Srinivas S. Tadigadapa, Director, Intel South Asia.

• Hands-on-Training on MPI & Parallel Programming provided to the students/ participants of NIT Silchar and Assam University.


1st National Symposium on High Performance Computing


Joint Interdisciplinary Research

• Formation of Interdisciplinary Research Computing Group (IRCG).

• Joint research projects between NIT Silchar and C-DAC are under process.

• Two Engineers (Application Engineer and Network Administrator) from C-DAC are deputed at NIT Silchar for 1 Year as per MOU.


Social Responsibility

• Interconnecting Guwahati, Jorhat, Sibsagar and other parts of Assam through HPC facility of NIT Silchar.

• Facilitate the researchers/scholars/faculties of National Laboratories, Universities of NE for high-end Interdisciplinary Computational Science & Engineering Research.

• Summer Training from 25th June to 25th July 2014 using HPC facility at NIT Silchar in collaboration with C-DAC Silchar.


Achievements

• NITS Supercomputing Centre is well recognized by Intel and proposed to be a globally recognized Centre.

• NITS Supercomputing Centre is in the race of 4500 Crore National HPC Mission by Dr. P. K. Sinha, Sr. Director, C-DAC.

• One Day Workshop sponsored by Intel will be organized in 28th Aug 2014 at NIT Silchar.

• Proposed One Day Workshop on NVIDIA.
