Is 40 Days for Life Political? No. 40 Days for Life has official status as a non-profit

organization under section 501c3 of the United States tax

code. As such, it is not permitted to participate in political

campaigns. This was a conscious decision by the board of

directors, who have been called to rely on prayer and

fasting, rather than political action, to end abortion. Please

join others for a peaceful, prayer vigil in front of the local

abortion clinic on West State Street (across from the old K-

Mart) every week day during the 40 Days for Life:

September 28—November 6. Tri-Cities Catholics take

responsibility for all the Fridays, Noon-4:00pm.

materials about a variety of Respect Life issues.

Turkey Time! Get feathers this weekend or next!!!!

Items due in by November 13

As all of you have seen our famous turkey has returned to

the commons. Social Ministry asks that you participate in

our Thanksgiving outreach by plucking one or more

feathers from our turkey this weekend or next and return

the requested items to the commons the weekend of Nov.

5/6 or no later than Nov. 12/13. These food items and gift

cards will be delivered to needy families in the Bristol TN/

VA area so they can enjoy a blessed Thanksgiving.

If all feathers are plucked and you want to contribute, the

Social Ministry would appreciate checks and WalMart gift

cards that can be used for various outreach projects. Your

checks and gift cards can be placed in the decorated box

provided, which will be placed in the corner of the

commons near the grocery drop off.

THANK YOU St. Anne parishioners for your generous

What’s New in the Parish Library???

You might be surprised to know that our Parish Library has

over 1000 books and DVDs, and numerous resource

materials for your use. The parish library is located in the

office conference room with an overflow located in the

Saint Vincent de Paul Center where most of our adult

religious education offerings take place during the week.

This weekend and next weekend, we will have a display of

new library materials showcased on the table in the

commons. If you would like to “check out” any of the

materials, just sign the library card and leave it in the

basket. There is a “blue return box” in the parish library for

returned books. Enjoy!

PRE-ELECTION STATEMENT: Bishop DiLorenzo

(Richmond) and Bishop Loverde (Arlington) have issued a

pre-election statement to guide Virginia Catholics before

going to the voting booth Nov. 8. They call on Catholics to

carefully form their consciences, pray, learn the issues,

consider candidates’ character and use principles of

Catholic social teaching to guide them. You can read their

statement on our parish website at www.stannes-bristol.org.

commons to join the Advent Scripture Study group that

meets on the Wednesdays of Advent, 1:00-2:30pm, to

study The Infancy Narratives of Jesus. The infancy

accounts serve as overtures to the writing of the evangelists

and as bridges connecting the Old and New Testaments.

They point back to the history of Israel and forward to the

ministry of Jesus, culminating in his cross and resurrection.

Sing up now so that your study set can be ordered. Our first

session will be on November 30. Cost of study set: $13 to

be paid at the first session.
