CD COVER ANALYSIS

Charlie-Mae Taylor

Cover 1This cover to Jason Derulo’s album is very striking. The yellow background automatically draws the target audience in. The title of the album is ‘Tattoos’ which is incorporated into a tattoo on his neck. This is a clever idea as it makes it more visually pleasing whilst creating a strong link as well. The drawing of the artist is also very interesting as it adds texture to the image without even having an texture on it. Featured in the bottom right hand corner is a sign saying ‘Parental Advisory, Explicit Content’. This is a warning to people that the songs may contain swearing or rude references and hints.

This album cover represents this idea of younger pop. Justin Bieber was every young girls biggest crush and had millions of fans swooning over him. He has matured into more of an adult and created more mature pop songs. The idea behind this cover is very simplistic, but it still quite effective. The fact that his face is on the front would attract a lot of his fans which are the main target audience. He is using direct address in this image and his pose looks very staged.

Cover 3

The broken glass symbolises the artist essentially breaking free from the strong grip that the media had on him. The title ‘last year was complicated’ suggests that something must have happened last year. The use of direct address is really captivating for the target buyers. The simple colour scheme creates a lot of depth to the image. It is definitely clear that this CD belongs to Nick Jonas, which suggests to me that it is a good idea to feature the artist/s on my own CD cover.
