Are you sitting comfortably? Then I’ll begin. If you’re not, maybe it’s time to get a new chair.. We’ve got some cracking car-inspired
designs on page 8. It’s been a busy month with lots of local events and we have articles on the first Marjal Classic Car event and the
return of the Vega Baja Rally after a long absence. Bad Boyz had an Open Day in their new shop in Cabo Roig and some of the bikes
were just stunning, it was a fun day for everyone involved and visitors. Our ‘Under the Spotlight’ celebrity is Penny Mallory, who was
the precision stunt driver in the Renault Clio adverts, playing both Nicole and Papa (complete with grey wig), you’ll recognise her from
shows such as CH4’s Driven. Another car reaches it’s half century, this time it’s the turn of the classic MGB, Jill Carter has written about
this iconic British car. We have the next generation of supercars, in the form of electric sportscars. They all look good, but can they
deliver on performance? We find out the most fuel efficient car available to buy today and feature an old (not at all fuel efficient)
Chrysler 300C and not forgetting a round up of all the motorsport. Happy motoring! Professor

MINIOnly once has there been anything like it, but even that wasn't as quick. The sportiest road registered MINI ever made will go on sale later this year with a limited run of only 2,000 cars. The MINI John Cooper Works GP was unveiled last month at Le Castellet in France, at the MINI United festival. In tests it has lapped the Nürburgring's circuit in just 8 mins 23 secs and in doing so the new model has beaten the lap time set by its predecessor, the MINICooper S by almost 19 seconds.

Complemented by a newly developed rear diffuser which optimises airflow around the underbody, it delivers around 220bhp from a turbocharged 1.6 petrol engine. This could be the last of the current models before we see the 3rd gen models due in 2014.
As well as being visually sporty, the design of the body gives the GP aerodynamic balance with its large front and rear

In total more than half a million MGBs were built between 1962 and 1980 in Abingdon – home of the illustrious MG factory situated just down the road from Silverstone to the south of Oxford. From the original Mark I roadster, through to the elegant MGB GT and the fearsome GT V8, the evergreen MGB has endeared itself as one of the most affordable and adored models whether as a first sports-car, desirable convertible, potent coupé or restoration project. The ‘B’ also enjoyed some notable racing and rallying successes during the Sixties with victories, either outright or in class, in a number of major endurance sportscar events (Brands Hatch, Nurburgring, Sebring, Targa Florio, Spa-Francorchamps) as well as the Monte Carlo Rally.
To celebrate the anniversary, there are three official showpiece events planned. The action starts this month with MGLive! where some of the best models in the UK will be displayed. The 50th anniversary will take place at Silverstone Classic in July, where each MGB owner will be given a unique plaque commemo-rating the event, organised bythe MGB Car Club and the MBG50committee. A static car show at Blenheim Palace in Sep-tember will round off the homage.

Tesla RoadsterThe original electric supercar has been updated and upgraded to this, the Roadster Sport. Hand built using carbon fibre, it accelerates from 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds. You can pick one up from €112,000 (ex. VAT).
This Croatian car has been billed as the world's first electric hyper car. It deliv-ers 1,088 horsepower and can do 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. With a price tag of around €765,000, they are planning on making 88 initially, with deliveries starting next year. Pre-orders have apparently already been placed by the Abu Dhabi royal family.
This British supercar not only looks great, it drives great too. With smooth acceleration and immedi-ate power, it can beat most cars at the lights. 0-60? Less than 4 seconds. Price? Estimated to be from £150,000 with production starting this year.

Línea Directa reports:HOW TO COMPLETE AN ACCIDENT REPORT FORM
What is an accident report form?An accident report form is a document which outlines the circumstances which have occurred in a car accident. In addition to the personal details of the drivers and their vehicles, the document includes a jointly agreed description of the manoeuvres carried out by the drivers when the accident took place, which plays a key role in determining who is responsible for a traffic accident.
How should it be completed?
Línea Directa offers the following advice to complete the form:
1. Columns A and B (blue and yellow), are for the personal details of the drivers and their
vehicles.
2. In section 12, (Circumstances) the numbered column on the left describes the manoeuvres
of car A and the one on the right those of car B. If you are unsure which box to mark, leave it
blank. Make a drawing of the accident in section 13 indicating the manoeuvre of each car.
3. If anybody has been injured or if you think they might have been injured, complete section
24.
4. If there is more than one car involved in the accident, also complete section 23, on the
reverse side of the form, and include it in the sketch.
5. Sign the form and keep a copy.

These cars were the vehicles that really rekindled interest in per-formance among major American manufacturers after World War II, they could be considered the muscle car's ancestors, although much more expensive and exclusive.
1957 CHRYSLER 300CThe 1957 300C is generally consid-ered the classic year of the 300 "letter series". New styling was brought in, with a yawning wide front grille and those huge rear fins; the Hemi engine was up-graded to 392 inch³ 6.4ltr, 375hp. The Chrysler 300 "letter series" were high perfor-mance luxury cars built in very lim-ited numbers by the Chrysler Corpora-tion in the United States between 1955 and 1965. Each year's model used a new letter of the alphabet as a suffix (skipping "i") and reaching the 300L by 1965, after which the model was dropped.

MOTORS IN THE NEWS CCTSilver Ghost Comes to the Silver Screen. The Rolls Royce car company is due to be the subject of a future Hollywood movie, called Silver Ghost, named after the company’s iconic car from the turn of the last century. The movie will revolve around the story of Charles Rolls and Henry Royce and their first meeting at the Midland Hotel in Manchester, a meeting that created once of the most prestigious car companies in the world: Rolls Royce. A little bit of intrigue will be thrown in as well, with the movie dealing with the secret love affair between Lord Montague of Beau-lieu and his secretary, Eleanor Thornton who later would model for the famous Rolls-Royce bonnet ornament: The Spirit of Ecstasy, which still adorns every Rolls Royce car to date. Producers of the film include Martin Scorsese, Richard Attenborough and Anthony Haas, but no director is in place yet.
Vauxhall Names New Baby Car Adam. General Motors has decided to call its forthcoming baby car Adam, a name that will resonate immediately with German buyers but leave us Brits scratching our heads. In Europe, as you will be aware, Vauxhalls are branded Opel and Opel was founded by Herr Adam Opel. GM's German operation, Adam Opel AG, still carries his full name, hence the name of the new car will be readily recognised there. The Adam is a new small premium runabout designed to compete with the BMW Mini and Fiat 500. Previously known by the concept name Junior, Adam will be expected to give a bit of a lift to Vauxhall's slightly boring image. We wait to see what the car will look like, so far we have only seen this spy shot showing Adam heavily disguised (with a wig and moustache?). Still, if a TV channel can be called Dave, why not a car called Adam?
The World's Oldest Unrestored and Unloved Mini Finds a New Home. This Mini was made in 1959, the eighth one to roll off the production line. It was recently discovered rusting in a dusty barn and sold at auction by Bonhams at The Royal Airforce Museum in London last month for £40,250, nearly three times its pre-sale estimate. The price is also an 8,000% increase on the £497 the car cost new in 1959, and more than double the cost of a new Mini today. It was bought by a UK-based Mini enthusiast. This Mini has never been touched apart from a few running repairs during its life and the 848cc engine has done a grand total of 30,000 miles but now doesn’t work. It is thought that only three Minis earlier than this one exist today, but they have all been restored over the years. One is at the British Heritage Motor Centre Museum in Warwickshire, and the other two are in private collections in Japan.

How are CO2 emissions accredited? Can the information provided by IDEA (AAID Andalu-sian Agency for Development and Innovation) be considered ‘official’ when determining the tax rate applied in Registration tax? In order to accredit official CO2 emissions, a certificate drawn up by the manufacturer or importer of the vehicle is needed, except when these emissions are stated on the MOT (ITV) card or on any other official document written up individually for the vehicle in question. We mustn’t forget that in order to pay the tax, we only have to know what the vehicle’s CO2 emissions are and state this on the ‘corresponding form’ used for payment. It is only if the Tax office later requests accreditation of emissions and this is not included on the techni-cal inspection card, should an individual vehicle’s certificate from the manufacturer or importer be obtained. It is understood therefore, that a Certificate of Conformity is valid, but if it is presented at the onset of paperwork being carried out, time can be saved.

You are very busy with a variety of different work activities; on the television, present-ing the hugely popular the Used Car Road-show, and you have previously presented such legendary programmes as Channel 4’s Driven, and you are also a motivational speaker and an event host… How do you fit it all in?
I have always been freelance - working on all sorts of projects at the same time. I don’t know any different! I love the variety of jobs as I tend to get bored very quickly, so this way I am always doing something new, to keep me interested. The down side is that it makes holidays hard to plan, and I never know how much money I will have... or not have.As well as presenting TV shows, I also spend a lot of time delivering keynote motivational speeches at conferences these days which I love. Everything is based abound a motoring theme and it’s quite powerful stuff.
The list of TV shows that you have presented on and are also currently still presenting is very impressive… Do you still enjoy being on the television as much as you did when you first started out?
It’s not so much ‘being on TV’ that I like - its the lifestyle and the people I work with, I meet new people every day and that might not happen in a ‘normal’ job. When you film a series, the crew becomes your family and a great team spirit develops. I love that side of it all. Doing live TV is also great fun - you really have to be on your toes, and think ahead... it can be pretty nerve wracking stuff.
Having such a varied working life must keep things interesting… Do you thrive on having different challenges?
I love to be challenged, and challenge myself, I have learnt to be a boxer, and did a fight, I have climbed the biggest mountain in Europe, learnt to play polo, run 3 marathons in 3 days, and am training to run 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 continents, which has never been done by a British woman. But I am getting very bored of running at the moment! One of my toughest challenges was to write and publish a book. I have never considered myself a writer, and it’s quite a thrill to see your book shoot to No 2 on Amazon!
I understand that your Father’s passion for cars and motorsport inspired you… Was this the main reason that you found a love of cars and racing yourself?
My dad was always tinkering with cars when I was a kid. I guess just being around cars rubbed off on me. Mind you, I never expected I’d be rallying for a job when I grew up. I loved the sense of freedom and adventure that I got from rallying. I could go a bit crazy and it was Ok - no one was on my back nagging at me. I could try different driving styles, go flat out - crash - and learn from it all. I enjoyed pushing myself further than I thought I could go - that way you learn about yourself.
You were the first woman in the world to race a rally car of a particular speci-fication, in the Ford Focus World Rally… How did it feel to have achieved this?
It was a little scary to be honest! I had a £250,000 car under my bum and I couldn't break it. The last ‘owner’ of it was Colin McRae so I had some really amazing footsteps to follow. I loved driving that car - it was such a thrill and an honor to have been trusted with it. The photo I have on the bonnet of that car is still very special to me and Sue, my co-driver.

With Clare Lawrence
Penny Mallory: TV presenter, motivational speaker and event host, has achieved so many things in her life that a person would be proud of just one of these achieve-ments… Breaking into a male-dominated sport and entertainment area is no easy undertaking, and Penny has done this with class and sophistication.
PENNY MALLORYWhat do you think you would have gotten into career-wise if you had not found your feet with what started out as your love for cars?
I wanted to be a social worker... then a fashion designer... I ended up as an art direc-tor in advertising... before rallying got me. I am a creative person - I paint and draw and create things all the time so I think I would have continued to go that route. I have worked with a Formula 1 team, a car manu-facturer and some huge corporate organiza-tions. It’s very rewarding to see people grow and do things they didn’t think they could.
Being an enthusiast of fast cars and driving at speed… Are you also into any of the extreme sports that are about these days?
No not really - just running mile after mile after mile after mile after mile. Some horse riding sometimes, but it’s a little tamer these days.
Is there anything that you are as passion-ate about as you are about cars?
I have so many passions - and of course I have two daughters who are approaching GCSE’s so that might be a boring answer, but I am pretty passionate about supporting them through their exams successfully. I am also quite passionate about getting my new puppy house trained!
What are your plans for the future, both career wise and personally?
I would like to add a few more books to my collection. Perhaps I should spend more time in Spain???

28-29 April, Thruxton, Hampshire In a rain-soaked day at Thruxton, the drama started at the first corner in race one when pole sitter Andrew Jordan’s Honda Civic came into contact with Jason Plato’s MG6. Mat Jackson took the lead and stayed there until the race was red-flagged. Dave News-ham took second and Plato recovered to finish in third. Race two started with the safety car for the first two laps. Gordon Shedden, who was in 6th place, quickly worked his way up the pack and into first place to take the win. Jason Plato came in second, just ahead of Mat Jackson. A frantic opening lap in race three, allowed Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal to move through up the order from their respective 9th and 5th places. By lap three they were leading and pulled away to finish over 7 seconds ahead of the rest for a Honda 1-2 and Gordon Shedden’s second win of the day. Frank Wrathall finished third and Plato’s 4th place kept him in the Championship lead 4 points ahead of Shedden.

Pastor now had a 6.2-second lead, but Fernando closed in ahead of Pastor’s final pit stop on lap 41, during which Williams had a prob-lem fitting his left rear tyre and that left Fernando only 3.1secs adrift when he rejoined from his final stop three laps later. The double world champion quickly closed on to the rear of the Williams, but the Venezuelan drove cleverly to ensure he was always far enough ahead at the start of the pit straight to ensure he could not pass him.

13th May Montmelo, SpainVenezuelan driver Pastor Maldo-nado took his maiden victory after his team outsmarted Ferrari with pit-stop timing. Pastor is only in his second F1 season and drove brilliantly to secure Williams's first win since 2004.
Pastor Maldonado
After the race, there was a fire in the William’s garage, luckily no one was seriously hurt.
Pastor was on pole, but was beaten off the line by Fernando Alonso, who started second. Fernando led through the first pit-stop period, during which he had built up a 3.4 second lead by lap 12. However, by lap 21, Pastor had closed the gap to only 1.5 seconds and when he couldn’t get any closer, Williams decided to try to 'undercut' Fernando with an earlier pit stop. It was a superb strategy and worked to perfection. Ferrari's decision not to stop on the next lap simply made life easier, especially when the Spaniard was held up by Marussia's Charles Pic during that period, for which he earned a drive-through penalty.

Mark went someway towards shaking off his reputa-tion for poor starts by leading into the first corner from pole position. He went on to open up a lead ahead of Mercedes' Nico Rosburg who was in front of Lewis Hamilton. Fernando Alonso sat behind Lewis, dropping back to conserve his tyres. His strategy paid off, and when Mark and Lewis stopped on lap 29, the Ferrari driver stayed out for one more lap, put in the two fastest sectors of the race to that point and so allowing him to emerge ahead of Lewis. Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel who had started in ninth, but an incident on the first corner allowed him to leap up to sixth place as he took to the shorter escape road to avoid the accident. The German found himself in the lead at the next set of pit stops and got far enough ahead to jump Lewis when he pitted on lap 46. From that point on, the top six; Mark, Nico, Fernando, Sebastian and Lewis com-pleted by Ferrari's Felipe Massa, stayed in close contact, running nose to tail in a tense last 10 laps, enlivened by intermittent light rain. They all kept their cool on the tricky street circuit and there were no changes before the flag. Jenson Button had a difficult race after a poor start and then retiring after a spin.

Marjal Eco Camping Resort (in association with Free-wheelers) was the setting for Classic Car event held last month. Registration started at 09.00 Sunday morning with a steady trickle of cars from the various Spanish clubs before the main Freewheelers contingent arriving at 09.30 causing temporary congestion at the entrance before making way for the 2CV club and others. Partici-pants all received a T-shirt, a cap, two sandwiches and two drinks for their 10 Euro fee.
As always at this sort of event the range of vehicles was vast with a Lincoln Coupe (remember Frank Cannon?) parked next to a British Mini which just emphasized the length of the Yank. The American police car caused a stir, whist the oldest vehicle was the Austin Chummy of 1928. There was a good variety of cars including a mag-nificent replica of a 1920s Mercedes Benz which was almost as long as the Lincoln's and 2CV’s in every con-ceivable colour. Freewheelers

2012In race one at Oulton Park, Tommy Hill came from 15th to take an amazing win, according to him, the 'best race of his career'. It was an action packed race with some great over-taking moves. In race two, Chris Walker had a superb race to claim the victory ahead of Shane Byrne. Race three saw another rider take the win, making six winners in six races. This time it was the turn of Shane Byrne.Tommy Hill scored his second race win of the season in the opening race at Snetterton as Michael Laverty claimed his first podium finish this year taking second. In the second race Michael Laverty became the seventh different race winner from eight races after leading from pole. Shane Bryne took second and Josh Brookes third.
Tom Sykes won the only race of the day at Monza, Italy for the Kawasaki Racing Team. The first race was cancelled due to heavy rain and race two was halted at half race distance due to a fresh fall of rain, meaning that half points were awarded. Leon Haslam took second and Eugene Laverty third. Donington Park was the venue for a historic 1-2 for the BMW Motorrad Motorsport Team as Marco Melandri won the opening race with team-mate Leon Haslam finishing second. Jonathan Rea took his second win of the season after an incident-strewn second race. On the first corner Carlos Checa and Eugene Laverty touched and Checa went down, taking out Jakub Smrz and Davide Giugliano. Tom Sykes led most of the race but was chased by the BMW riders. At the final corner, the BMW’s ran wide, collided and both crashed out (see photo). Rea ran inside to take the win with Max Biaggi second.
29th April Jerez, SpainIt was a thrilling race right from the start. Dani Pedrosa took the holeshot of the line ahead of pole-sitter Jorge Lorenzo. Casey Stoner then found his stride and moved to the front as he passed Lorenzo and then team mate Pedrosa. He was soon putting fast laps, yet was unable to shake Lorenzo, who had the weight of his home crowd behind him. With two laps to go he was very close, but after running wide on a corner, Stoner ploughed ahead and took his first MotoGP victory at Jerez. Stoner came in second and third was taken by Dani Pedrosa after battling with Cal Crutchlow throughout the whole second half of the race.
6th May Estoril, PortugalA nerve racking moment occured at turn one when the Repsol Honda riders, Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner touched fairings, all went OK and Stoner took the lead. Jorge Lorenzo took advantage of the moment to sneak into second ahead of Pedrosa. Lorenzo closed the gap on Stoner and with 3 laps to go looked like he could challenge for the win. Stoner was having none of it though and put the hammer down to take the win and in doing so, achieving a win at every single track on the MotoGP calendar in the premier-class. With his third place, Dani Pedrosa joined an elite club of only six riders with 100 career podiums to their name. Andrea Dovizioso kept his team-mate Cal Crutchlow at bay to take fourth.
20th May Le Mans, FranceIn rainy conditions, it was Dani Pedrosa who got off to one of his trademark starts followed by teammate Casey Stoner. Their lead was short lived however, as Jorge Lorenzo charged past them and instantly pulled out a gap. Cal Crutchlow also made a good start in fourth, followed by a surging Valentino Rossi in fifth. Soon Rossi and Andrea Dovizioso overtook Crutchlow then Pedrosa as he struggled for grip on the wet track. Lorenzo opened up a gap ahead of Stoner running in second. The battle for third between Crutchlow, Dovizioso and Rossi was providing some breath-taking overtaking in difficult conditions. Ten laps before the end Crutchlow lost the front in the first chicane, leaving the two Italians to fight it out, with Rossi taking third just two corners later. With five laps to go Stoner was held up slightly, allowing Rossi to get to within half a second of the Australian world champion. The last three laps were thrilling as old adversaries Stoner and Rossi swapped positions throughout. It was Rossi’s day as he passed Stoner in the first chicane on the last lap to secure second. This is the highest result both Rossi and the Ducati team have had in the past two seasons. Lorenzo’s win gives him an eight point lead at the top of the championship ahead of Stoner, who came home in third. In a press conference at Le Mans, Casey Stoner shocked everyone by announcing his retirement at the end of this season.
