Abortion Alternatives is a pro-life organization. They provide support to all women who are considering abortion as their alternative. They provide pre-counselling and post-counselling to those in need.
Birthright pregnancy Service is an international, inter-denominational, voluntary organization designed to provide emergency services to any woman distressed by an unwanted pregnancy. They offer alternatives to abortion such as: accommodations, confidential pregnancy testing, continuing education, and assistance with medical care, legal help, employment counselling, and emotional support, maternity and baby clothes.

A fellowship of young Alanon members, usually teenagers, whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking in a negative way. Youth share their experiences, strengths, difficulties, and hope and also encourage and learn effective ways to cope with their problems.
Offers individual counselling for all ages, Family Counselling, Group Programs, Anger Management, Parenting, Group Education (i.e. Stress Management, Self-Esteem, Work-Life Balance, Workplace Harassment, Conflict Management). Other programs can be developed to meet client need.

Addiction Services with the CBDHA offers a variety of programs that range from 2 to 3 days in length. They offer programs for youth who are at risk for substance abuse or youth who want to get control of their substance abuse. They also offer programs that focus on drug education, self-awareness, healthy communication, anti-smoking programs, driving while impaired programs just to name a few. Referrals can be made by service provides, teachers, parents, etc. or self-referrals are also accepted.
Cape Breton Centre for Sexual Health is an organization that offers presentations and workshops to Junior High and High School students, they provide professional development training for teachers and non-profit organizations, workshops or parenting, sexuality, healthy sexuality, STD’s, birth control and they also offer individual counseling.
Population Served: Ages 5-18yrs, we service over 100 youth daily

The St. John Ambulance offers Community First Aid programs, Lifesmart program (first aid training for students and potential instructors, volunteer opportunities, and the therapy dog program.

The Big Brothers/ Big Sisters of Cape Breton County provide mature adult friendships to boys and girls coming from single parent families. The Student Employment Centre is a computer based employment preparation program designed to address the needs of the severely employment disadvantagedstudents. Everyone has the duty to immediately report to a child welfare agency even a suspicion that a child under 16 may be in need of protective services. Reports may be made anonymously. A youth development organization providing opportunities for youth, for youth 30 years of age and under, in particular youth at risk, to enhance resources so that they have success as young parents, students, entrepreneurs, workers and volunteers. Cape Breton Help Line is a volunteer based telephone crisis/suicide intervention service that provides information, direction, and emotional support to anyone in need. The also provide community outreach to Junior High and High School students with the “Yellow Ribbon” program. They provide counseling, literature/information, Referrals, training, workshops, suicide awareness programs to the community and more.
The Elizabeth Fry Society of Cape Breton offers a court worker program, case management and referrals, special needs programming, women 4 change anger management program, prison advocacy and monthly visits, community service and fine option placements, adult diversion programs, aftercare service, volunteer training, assistance with pardon applications, craft program, female teen intervention, stoplifting intervention program, student placements, personal boundaries program and more.
To address the needs of students deemed to be “At-Risk”. The Northside Learning Centre features a unique and rewarding learning
experience, individualized and small class instruction, and a low student/teacher ratio. The primary purpose of the Centre is to prepare students for a successful return to their original (base) school or to another school in their system.
After-school peer tutoring and mentoring program, serving the youth of the CBRM—from high risk offenders to elementary kids with learning differences.
