any years passed since Adamand Eve left the Garden. The

earth was filled with human beings. But these people did not get alongwith each other. They were selfish, greedy, and violent. The world wasfilled with violence.

God looked on and was veryunhappy with what He saw. Godwas sorry that He had created them.People had not listened to Him.Because of this, humans were nothappy. Yet, there was one man whowas, because he obeyed God.

Noah

This man was Noah. Among themany million of people, only Noahobeyed God. Noah practiced God’sLaw.

Because Noah lived God’s way,God came to Noah with a plan. Godwas going to destroy all humanbeings because they did not listen toHim. But, God would save Noah and

his family because he obeyed God. God told Noah to warn the peo-

ple, to tell them that what theywere doing was wrong. They weregoing to have to change theirways—stop being greedy, selfishand violent, and obey God’s way oflife. If they would not listen, Godwould fill theearth with water. He would floodthe earth!

While Noahwas warning thepeople, God had asecond job forhim. He instructedNoah to build agiant ship calledan ark. The first

thing he would have to do was col-lect all the supplies.

Teaching the People

As the ark was being built, manypeople were interested. They askedNoah why he was building this bigship. Noah told them why.

Noah told the people that a floodwas coming. He told them that it

was coming because their way oflife was wrong. He said that theymust change their ways and followGod.

The people would not listen. They would not believe Noah’swarning. They laughed at Noah andhis family as they built the ark. Theyfound it very funny that they werebuilding a huge ark on land. They

even thoughtNoah was crazy.

Yet, Noah lis-tened to God.Noah continued towarn the peoplefor many years.Even when theylaughed at him, hecontinued to carefor the people bywarning them. Hewanted to try tosave them fromthe Flood.

The Ark

The ark Noahbuilt was huge—far bigger thanyour own house! This giant shipwas three storiestall and 450 feetlong. (Ask yourparents to describehow big that is.)The ark wasshaped in such a way that it wouldnot tip when the earth was flooded. Itwas made out of gopher wood andhad many rooms. Noah and his sonsput pitch on the outside. Pitch is a

sticky substance that makes surewater does not get into the ship.

Noah also made a giant door onthe side of the ark. This was so allthe animals could come into the ark.

Page 5: cbl-2-2

God was going protect one male andone female of every animal. Afterthe Flood, these animals would fillthe earth. But of the clean animals,God wanted seven pairs.

This would provide food forNoah and his family during theFlood.

When the ark was completed,Noah and his family filled the arkwith supplies. Everything they and

the animals would need to survivewas put on the ark. All the animalsthat would come into the ark wouldhave to be fed.

The ark was ready for the Flood. But what about the animals? Then,an awesome thing happened.

A pair of each kind of animalcame to the ark. Seven pairs of theclean animals came. God causedevery beast of the earth to come to

the ark. As they came,Noah put them each intheir own room in the ark.The people watching theark were shocked! Theybegan to worry. MaybeNoah was right. Yet, theydid not change their ways. They were still living awrong way of life.

When every kind of ani-mal and all of Noah’s fam-ily were in the ark, anothermiracle happened. Nowthat everyone was insidethe ark, who would closethe giant door? God closedit. The ark was now readyfor the Flood.

The FloodFor seven days, nothinghappened. There was norain. People laughed atNoah and his family. Theywere sure that Noah andhis family were crazy. They were sure that noth-ing would happen.

But then, storm cloudscame. Strong winds came.Everybody felt a strongstorm coming. Then, a

drop of rain fell. Peoplewere no longer laughing.

Very quickly, the raingushed down upon theearth. Water springsexploded from the ground. The rain did not stop for 40days and nights. The wholeworld filled with water. The water was so high thateven the tallest mountainswere covered. The life ofevery man, animal and birdwas taken in the greatFlood. Only Noah’s family, the animals on the ark andthe fish in the sea survived.

After the rain stopped, the ark floated for 150days. During that time,Noah’s family kept busy. They fed the animals andkept the ark clean.

Then, God created awind. This wind caused thewater to dry up. The waterlowered and the ark cameto rest upon the mountainsof Ararat. It took manydays for all the water to dryup. Noah, his family andthe animals had to stay inthe ark.

Noah sent out some birds to see ifthe lands were dry. A dove cameback with an olive branch. Noahknew that he could leave soon. Thenext time, the dove did not comeback. God now let Noah, his familyand the animals leave the ark.

Everyone was happy to be on dryland again. Noah was very thankful. He made a burnt offering to God.This was a sign of how thankfulNoah was.

God promised he would notflood the entire earth again. God

made a rainbow. This was a signof His promise.

Tower of BabelThe sons of Noah—Shem, Ham andJapheth—had many children. Theearth began to fill with peopleagain. People stayed close together, and built cities. Noah continued toteach his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren aboutGod’s Way. But just like peoplebefore the Flood, most did notlisten.

A man was born whose name wasNimrod. He was the grandson ofHam and the great-grandson ofNoah. Nimrod became a leader. Heprotected the cities from wild ani-mals. The people loved Nimrod.

Yet, Nimrod did not follow God.He felt he was strong and that hecould do anything with his ownstrength. He did not need God.Nimrod led people to build a greatcity called Babel.

Nimrod taught the people to prac-tice a false religion. This religion is

where many wrong holidays camefrom.

Nimrod wanted to build a tower. This tower would be a sign of thegreatness of Nimrod and the falsereligion that he taught.

Yet, God saw what was happen-ing. He knew that if the building ofthe tower continued, much evilwould come from it. Men would do

much evil. So, God confused theirlanguages. There were now manylanguages. No one could understandthe other person! They could notlive together.

Those who had the same lan-guage stayed together and moved totheir own area on earth. That is whywe have the many different lan-guages today!
