28 April 2019 2nd Sunday of Easter - Year C
Catholic Parish of St Canice We acknowledge the Gadigal people,
the traditional custodians on whose land this Church was built.
Peace be With You
Nearly 2000 years after Jesus’ death and resurrection, we are
far removed
from the disciples who saw with their own eyes, and from
‘doubting’ Thomas,
who could even touch the wounds in Christ's hands and side. But
we can still
rely on this disciple’s testimony, which has been handed down to
us from
generation to generation over many centuries - authentic and
trustworthy.
When our faith seems shaky, we need only to look to those who
went before
us and those around us whose faith is unwavering. They support
and bolster
us. As our faith grows stronger, we become anchors for
others.
The scriptures too are a great source of hope and faith for us
today, for we
are not the first to doubt, to question. Signs and wonders are
all around us if
we have eyes to see, urging us to respond “My Lord and My
God.”
Thanks to all those who made our Easter liturgies such a success
by giving
so generously of their time and talents: our musicians and
readers, servers,
cleaners, collectors, greeters and Eucharistic Ministers all
contributed to the
beauty and power of our celebrations. We thank you all.

Entrance Antiphon Like newborn infants, you must long for the
pure, spiritual milk, that in him you may grow to salvation,
alleluia.
Entrance Hymn: No 361 (Gather) Jesus Christ is Risen Today
Opening Prayer God of everlasting mercy, who in the very
recurrence of the paschal feast kindle the faith of the people you
have made your own, increase, we pray, the grace you have bestowed,
that all may grasp and rightly understand in what font they have
been washed, by whose Spirit they have been reborn, by whose Blood
they have been redeemed. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one
God, for ever and ever.
First Reading: Acts 5:12-16 Many signs and wonders were done
among the people through the Apostles. And the believers were all
together in Solo-mon's Portico. None of the rest dared to join
them, but the people held them in high esteem. Yet more than ever
believers were added to the Lord, great numbers of both men and
women, so that they even carried Out the sick into the streets, and
laid them on cots and mats, in order that Peter's shadow might fall
on some of them as he came by. A great number of people would also
gather from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those
tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all cured. The word of
the Lord.
Responsorial Psalm: Ps 117:2-4, 22-27 Give thanks to the Lord
for he is good, his love is everlasting.
Second Reading: Revelation 1:9-13, 17-19 I, John, your brother
who share with you in Jesus the persecution and the kingdom and the
patient endurance, was on the island called Patmos because of the
word of God and the testimony of Jesus. I was in the spirit on the
Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet
saying, "Write in a book what you see and send it to the seven
churches." Then I turned to see whose voice it was that spoke to
me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst
of the lampstands I saw one like the Son of Man, clothed with a
long robe and with a golden sash across his chest. When I saw him,
I fell at his feet as though dead. But he placed his right hand on
me, saying, "Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the
living one. I was dead, but see, I am alive forever and ever and I
have the keys of Death and of Hades Now write what you have seen,
what is, and what is to take place after this." The word of the
Lord.
Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia! You believe in me,
Thomas, because you have seen me; happy those who have not seen me,
but still believe! Alleluia!
Gospel: John 20:19-31 It was evening on the day Jesus rose from
the dead, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house
where the disci-ples had met were locked for fear of the
authorities. Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be
with you." After he said this, he showed them his hands and his
side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus
said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me,
so I send you." "When he had said this, he breathed on them and
said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of
any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they
are retained." But Thomas, who was called the Twin, one of the
twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples
told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I
see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the
mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe." A
week later his disci-ples were again in the house, and Thomas was
with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among
them and said, "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put
your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it
in my side. Do not doubt but believe." Thomas answered him, "My
Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you
have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come
to believe." Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his
disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are
written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah,
the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his
name. The Gospel of the Lord.
Offertory Hymn: No 359 (Gather) O Sons and Daughters
Communion Antiphon
Bring your hand and feel the place of the nails, and do not be
unbelieving but believing, alleluia.
Reflection Hymn: No 432 (Gather) O Breathe on Me
Recessional: No 417 (Gather) Glory and Praise to Our God

A message from the Archdiocese of Sydney
Abuse is a crime. The appropriate people to deal with a crime
are the police. If you – or anyone you know – have been abused,
please contact the police. Alternatively, you can contact the
Safeguarding and Ministerial Integrity
Office at (02) 9390 5810 or
[email protected]. You may also want to
speak to your Parish Priest who will be able to provide support and
guidance.
The Archdiocese has a legal obligation to report crimes to the
police.
If you haven't already done so could you please confirm asap if
you are able to bring a
cake/slice on the day. We need to know how many cakes/slices
will be supplied so we can
determine our additional catering needs.
Thank you for your help with this.
