THANKS TO ALL INTERNATIONAL BREAKFAST HEROES This past weekend, Saint Dominic Savio Parish held its Annual Interna onal Breakfast on St. John Bosco’s Feast day. The Interna onal Breakfast is a unifying event where all the ministries of the church come together and prepare and serve food a er all the Sunday Masses in order to raise money for the Youth Ministry. This year, all proceeds went towards the Youth Ministry’s WeCare A erschool Program. We raised $5,500 this year. We became quite concerned that our outcome would not be as great as previously hoped. We are happy to say, “We were wrong!” Due to amazing parishioners, who were passionate about suppor ng the Youth no ma er the weather, the Interna onal Breakfast s ll had a great turnout. Most of all, a great deal of gra tude goes to the ministries of Saint Dominic Savio Parish. Through the crazy weather and constant adjustments being asked of them, they stayed, served and did it all while s ll in a joyful Salesian Spirit. The Youth Ministry of Saint Dominic Savio is blessed to live in such a caring community that truly lives in the Salesian Spirit of serving the Youth, no ma er what. To every soul in Saint Dominic Savio, WE THANK YOU!

L E N T 2 0 16 Lent is always a path which leads to Easter, the Promised Land, the destination of Jesus´ journey. We get ready to walk with Jesus along that “condensed” path which is Holy Week, including the resurrection. What is our destination? Jesus´ resurrection is the human utopia in all its fullness. It will be
“Our World Without Frontiers.” To reach that world we must tear down a series of walls which block our passage, creating real barriers and frontiers. Each Sunday we shall come face to face with a different “wall”: the “wall” of the temptations (1); the “wall” of our fears (2); the “wall” of our whims (3); the “wall” of our impatience (4); the “wall” which is our heart of stone (5). To tear down those walls we will be given three sledge hammers: prayer, austerity and solidarity, which correspond to the prayer, fasting and almsgiving which are the traditional concrete Lenten practices. With each hammer we will extract some resolutions each Sunday. These hammers will be our “offertory”: they will guide us to formulate each Sunday three concrete resolutions.
· · · · · · · · · · · ABSTINENCE AND FASTING
Abstinence: Means not eating meat on Fridays during the year (recommended) and on Ash Wednesday. Starting from the age of 14. Fasting: Eating only one full meal a day and applies to all adults who have complete their 59th year of age. Fast and abstinence: Obligatory on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Important: These Lenten practices are not just a question of not eating. We must have the constant desire for conversion. Stop doing something must spring from the heart: penance is like a preparation for the joy of Easter. That’s why we fast before Communion. Since the Lord is already present, there is no need to fast, one must rejoice. That´s why we do not fast on Sundays; they are the Lord´s days, days to celebrate the Lord. If “I forgot”, and ate meat… I’ll substitute with acts of charity and prayer. This is what God prefers!
