1 & 2 KINGS

The  two  Books  of  Kings  are  regarded  by  many  as  the  last  part  of  a  work

commonly known as the Deuteronomistic History. This history tells the story

of Israel from its settlement in the promise land (Joshua and Judges) through

the transition from judgeship to monarchy under Samuel, Saul, and David (1

and  2 Samuel)  to  the  reign  of  Solomon,  the  disintegration  of  the  united

kingdom into the kingdoms of Israel and Judah and the eventual downfall of

both kingdoms  (1 and 2 Kings). The Deuteronomistic History along with  the

Pentateuch  forms  a  single  historical  narrative  stretching  from  creation  to

exile.

Join us as we explore how the Israelite people abuse their  relationship with God, lose their Temple, and as result,  go from living in the Promised Land, to exile in Babylon.

Classes begin Wednesday September 16 & Thursday September 17

We will meet on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 until 11:30 AM

This class will be repealed on Thursday evenings from 6:15 until 8:00 PM.

Please let me know if you plan to attend

A MESSAGE OF LOVE. In the final verses of today’s Gospel reading Jesus says that when two or three are gathered in his name, “there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). So we understand that fraternal correction is always undertaken with Jesus present to us. Likewise, encouraging the good in others is not only the right thing for us to do, it is a necessity. The Lord tells the prophet Ezekiel that if he “does not speak out” to

dissuade a person from evil, then he too will be held responsible. We live in a “do your own thing” age when moral objectivity is often ignored. Clearly when the message we share with others is one of love, our motives cannot ever be misinterpreted. As St. Paul writes, “Love does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law” (Romans 13:10).

Mass Intention for Daniel “Danny” Jacob Daley

Father Dennis, Deacon Greg, Deacon Malcolm, Deacon John & Deacon Jim and the Parish Staff wish all parishioners and their families a SAFE & HAPPY LABOR DAY WEEKEND.

FROM FATHER DENNIS’ CONSTANT CONTACT EMAIL: I am deeply saddened to announce that our Assistant Music Director, David Fisher, has resigned. Many of you know David from the Sunday Vigil and Sunday 8AM Masses. David has been a wonderful gift to our parish for eight years and has contributed so much to our music program during that time

with his love and knowledge of music that it is impossible to quantify. A gifted and experienced organist and vocalist, he and his particular skill set will be deeply missed. Please keep David and his family in your prayers. I continue to hope that we will return to our regular Sunday Mass schedule beginning the weekend of 12-13 September. This is the weekend after Labor Day and our designated weekend to resume the 5PM Life Teen Sunday Mass. We will need volunteers for all the Liturgical Ministries and to sanitize the church after every Mass!

MASS INTENTIONS WILL BE NEEDED FOR ALL MASSES

ONCE WE GO BACK TO OUR REGULAR SCHEDULE.

It is a Catholic custom of long standing to have a Mass celebrated for the repose of the soul of deceased friends and relatives, in thanksgiving for a prayer answered, or other special intentions. Please contact the Parish Office.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes to TJ, & Stephanie Daley and Lizzie on the passing of beloved son and brother, Daniel “Danny” Jacob Daley on August 21, 2020. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the church with interment in Mt. Tabor Lutheran Cemetery afterward. Danny loved trains of all kinds. He was laid to

rest beside the railroad tracks which run adjacent to the Cemetery. Our thoughts and prayers will remain with the family and their loved ones durig this difficiult time. Click here to see obituary.

Father Dennis will continue celebrating PUBLIC Masses on the weekends at 5pm on Saturday for the Vigil and on Sunday Morning at 9:00am. Mass intention will be rescheduled for the Sunday Mass at 10:30am. We are

officially on the Summer Mass Schedule and therefore there are no Sunday Evening Mass Intentions at 5pm. Please feel free to call the Parish Office if you need to know when a Mass requested was rescheduled. PLEASE NOTE: The only Saturday Mass at 12 noon will now be for First Saturday and it will be celebrated Ad Orientem. The Vigil Mass on Saturday at 5 pm is offered in loving memory of Liz Drexelius, at the request of the Drexelius Family. The Mass at 9:00 am on Sunday, August 30th is offered as a Missa Pro Populo (Mass for the People).

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year-old grandson. The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together at the table, but the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth. The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess.

'We must do something about father,' said the son. 'I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor.' So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner. Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. When the family glanced in Grandfather's direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The four-year-old watched it all in silence. One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood pieces on the floor. He asked the child, 'What are you making?' Sweetly, the boy responded, 'Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when I grow up. ' The four-year-old smiled and went back to work. The words so struck the parents so that they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done. Do unto others…

That evening the husband took Grandfather's hand and gently led him back to the family table. For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled

. If you focus on your family, your friends, the needs of others, your work and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you. Every day, reach out and touch someone. People love that human touch -- holding hands, a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back. Pray for happiness of others. It will bring you great joy! May God richly bless you!

Flowers for the Altar Flowers on the altar this weekend were provided by Russell & Suzy Howell in loving memory of Richard LeMay on his 83rd Birthday and in honor of Ted Howell on his 85th Birthday; and, by Jeff & Audrey Lutts in loving memory of Mr.

& Mrs. William Lutts.

The SECOND COLLECTION for September 13, 2020 is for the Debt Reduction ~ Loan on Land

A collection basket will be on the offertory table before and after Mass. Please use this basket to

donate to the Parish. Thank you for your support.

WILL YOU CONSIDER ONLINE GIVING?

Not surprisingly, our weekly collections have been impacted by this crisis. If you are receiving Father Dennis' Constant Contact emails, you know the details). Donating Online allows the church to

operate with a more consistent revenue stream, and saves time and money for those involved in processing bank deposits. It will save you time too! You can individually donate to "Special Envelope" offerings as well. Go to ollchapin.org/online-giving and click on "Choose Here to Give" image.

If you are a registered member of the Parish and are providing your Offertory on-line and no longer need your Envelope Sets, PLEASE call the Parish Office so we can stop sending you Envelopes and the incurred printing and mailing costs. MANY THANKS!

Respect Life Ministry Now that the ministries are holding monthly meetings again (with guidelines), the Respect Life Ministry will once again meet in person. The next Ministry meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 5th at 6:00 pm in St. Andrew Hall. Rosary for Life will still be held either virtually or at Planned Parenthood EVERY other Saturday which is the

We have uploaded Meditations for the Rosary in Times of Crisis, courtesy of director of the Family Life Office for the Diocese of Charleston. These are beautiful and include all four sets of mysteries. Click on the QR Code with your SmartPhone.

You do not need to be an active member of the Respect Life Ministry to be on our email list. If you want to be informed of upcoming activities, events, prayer novenas and prolife legislative alerts. Please E-mail Maureen & Deacon Greg at [email protected] to join our list or with any questions regarding the Respect Life Ministry. Raising the Bar

Have you grown comfortable in your Catholic faith? Are you, perhaps, too comfortable? What can we do to challenge ourselves to move forward and grow in our faith journey? Matthew Kelly explores this question in his groundbreaking new book, and the simplicity of what he discovers will amaze you. His answers have the potential to transform each

of us as individuals, reinvigorate parish life across the globe, and determine the future of the Catholic Church.

Care & Share SEPTEMBER 27, 2020

PUT ITEMS IN CABINET BIN IN VOLLKOMMER BELL TOWER ANY DAY

BUT ESPECIALLY ON CARE & SHARE SUNDAY

At the conclusion of the Recessional Hymn, we will kneel and pray ONE HAIL MARY, asking for Mary's intercession for an increase of Vocations to the Religious Life and to the Priesthood. Additionally, we will

pray to St. Michael the Archangel asking for his protection. As our Parish is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and as the Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives as Catholics, it is most appropriate for us to pause before we leave Church on Sunday to ask her intercession for an increase of Vocations to the Religious Life and to the Priesthood. Further, given the pandemic that we currently find ourselves in, it is likewise appropriate that we ask for protection from our God-given defender, St. Michael the Archangel. We will continue to pray these intercessory prayers at the end of each Mass on the weekends as well as at the Daily Masses.

Our policy regarding face masks: It strongly recommend-ed that all parishioners use face masks for your protection and for the protection of others when safe distancing cannot

be observed. That said, masks are not mandatory at OLL for the simple reason of enforcement. It is not fair to require volunteer greeters and ushers to enforce a mandatory use policy. Volunteers need not be in the position of having to "police" others or to turn some one away because they are not wearing a mask. Masks are strongly suggested if safe distancing cannot be observed while at Mass.

This must be said: we can not guarantee you will not contract the Covid-19 virus by attending Pub-lic Mass. We do believe our precautions are suffi-cient to minimize the risk. If you have any doubts, please, stay at home and join us on Sundays for the live streamed 9AM Mass. Please take a moment to thank our volunteer Greeters, Ushers and Cleaners when you see them! Without their support we could not hold public Masses. Please con-tinue to BE PATIENT with one another during this time. THANK YOU for following all instructions.
