rtTalks Egypt is pleased to present the !rst solo exhibition of Alexandria-based artist Hady Boraey, as part of our mission to showcase Egypts most talented emerging artists. In “Beyond

Borders”, Hady Boraey takes us on an imaginary journey of what could lie beyond the borders of the earth and the borders of ones own land.

Does the universe have a border? And if it does, what does this line sep-arate us from? What exactly are we missing and what lies beyond the edge of our earth? Webster dictionary de!nes the word border as a line separating one country from another or as a boundary between places, implying knowledge of what lies beyond. Yet so much is still unknown – fascinating and frightening at the same time.

With a distinctive painting technique and a thrilling imagination, Boraey has created a poetic and dramatic world of fantasy of what could lie beyond all sorts of borders – of the earth, of ones country or ones imagination. And while the mystery of what lies beyond the borders of the universe is grand and captivating, Boraey uses the unknown as a metaphor to highlight the fascina-tion and hope of many young Egyptians to cross the borders of their own country to go settle somewhere where the grass looks greener. For Boraey, the unknown doesn't necessarily mean more planets and stars and other forms of material, but more impor-tantly, it symbolizes the relentless pursuit of happiness and the persistence of our youth to dream of a better life.

In a world with rising violence, racism and wars, Hady Boraey o"ers a wake up a call that what is beyond your comfort zone and your border – be it your country, your city, your neighborhood, your house, your door, is similar to what lies inside your border – that we are one and the same, that here and there, we go for the same dream to go beyond our borders.
