MEASURING METHOD: UCI — Ultrasonic Contact ImpedanceA hardness testing method based on the measurement of the frequency shift of aresonating rod caused by the essentially elastic nature of the finite area of contactbetween the indenter and the test piece during the penetration. Described as a hardnesstesting practice using a calibrated instrument by pressing a resonating rod with a Vickersstyle Diamond indentor with a fixed force against the surface of the part to be tested.
The PHASE II ultrasonic/dynamic portablehardness testers are capable of measuringthe surface hardness of a broad variety ofmetals on flat, round, thin or large surfaces.Unlike the standard Dynamic hardnesstesters, these “state-of-the-art” portablehardness testers incorporate “UltrasonicUCI” technology, which enables the hardnesstesting of very thin and small workpieces, which otherwise could not be tested accuratelyusing a portable device. Non-destructive init’s function, these hardness testers allow forthe testing of highly sensitive or finishedparts that previously could not be tested inan operational setting. The non-destructive(ndt) feature of these hardness testers allowthe operator to accurately test parts withoutcausing physical or structural damage thatwould normally lead to disposal or refinishof operators part.
FUNCTIONS: MET-U1A and MET-UDA• Perform hardness tests on variety of metals from thin to very large parts• Display test results in all various hardness scales: Scales: HRC, HRB, HRA,
HB, HV, HRN, HRT, HS, HLD• Printout to PC via USB interface w/ extended memory locations

The PHASE II ultrasonic hardness testers are capable of measuring the surface hardness of a broadvariety of metals on flat, round, thin or large surfaces. Accurate measurements of steel, cast steel, alloysteel, gray cast iron, cast iron, cast aluminum alloy, brass, bronze and copper are easily attained withthis compact instrument.

MET-HRC & MET-HBDesigned for quick easy hardness testing on steel in Rockwell C or Brinell scales.
The new PHASE II miniature ultrasonic hardness testers are capable of measuring the surface hardness of steel on flat, round, thin or large surfaces. Accuratemeasurements of steel, cast steel and alloy steel are easily attained with these compact instrument.
The MET-HRC & HB meets ASTM A1038-05 specifications.
MEASURING METHOD: MET-HRC & HB
“Ultrasonic Contact Impedance” is based on a 136 degree diamond at the end of a vibrating rod being depressed into the test surface at a fixed load. The dif-ference in Ultrasonic vibration frequency is then calculated into a hardness value. These units can test steel as thin as 1mm and at a hardness value as low as20HRC (81HB). They also excel at performing hardness tests on larger, harder metals as well. Another reason for the rise in popularity is due to the fact thatthe UCI method is categorized as “Non-Destructive”. That translates into less scrap parts/ lower mfg costs due to necessary inspections.

Shore A scale is for testing the following materials:Rubber: Soft vulcanized (ie tyre), natural nitrile.Elastomeretric materials (rubber & rubber like): GR-S, GR-1,neopene, thiokol, flexible polyacrylic esters neoprene, thiokol, flexiblepolyacrilic esters.Other: Wax, felt, leather etc. (materials that normally yield underfingernail pressure, such as the heel on your shoe).
Shore D scale is for testing the following materials:Rubber: HardPlastics: Harder grades such as rigid thermoplastics, plexiglas, thermoploystyrene, vinyl, sheet, cellulode acetate, thermosettingLaminates (ie fornica)Other: Paper filled calendar rolls, calendar bowls, etc. (materials thatwould not normally indent under fingernail pressure, such as a pocketcomb or bowling ball).
PHT-995The Phase II Coating Hardness Tester is engineered to determine the resistance of coatings to scratch effects on the surface. Utilizing the Wolff/Wilborn princi- ple, this coating hardness tester conforms to ASTM D 3363-05.
Pencils of various known hardness are dragged over the coating surface at a fixed angle and fixed pressure. Beginning with the hardest lead, graduating softer, movements of .250” (6.5mm) will determine where the surface area is/is not being gouged or scratched.
Pencils can be changed easily via a knurled thumb screw on the side of the instrument.
A set of 14 calibrated wood drawing pencils is included from 6B to 6H.
SRG-1000The PHASE II SRG-1000 surface roughness tester is a pocket-sized economically pricedinstrument for measuring surface texture conforming to traceable standards. It can beused on the shop floor in any position, horizontal, vertical or anywhere in between.
The large LCD display shows either roughness parameter Ra or Rz at the touch of abutton, combined with the selected cutoff length. External calibration of theroughness values is possible by means of a special CAL button, which makesadjustment of this instrument very easy. A beep signal informs the user about eachindividual measurement status when ready.
The easy to use SRG-1000 operates on various surfaces, not only flat but also outercylinder, outer cone, grooves, and recesses greater than 80x 30mm. The areas ofapplication are wide spread. It is suitable for inspection departments, qualitycontrol, on the shop floor during machining, during assembly, and on site.
The SRG-1000 determines both roughnessparameters Ra and Rz within a wide measuringrange. The piezo-electric pick-up stylus withdiamond tip assures a very reliable measurementwithin tolerances that conform to ISO Standards &DIN Standards. Roughness parameter Ra iscomputed to conform to ISO Standards and Rz iscomputed to conform to DIN Standards.

PTG-3500 Integrated Coating Thickness GageThe PHASE II PTG-3500 series of gages can perform two different methods of calculating thickness measurement by utilizing the characteristics ofboth eddy current and magnetic induction. Testing performance is both non-destructive and extremely accurate. With these state of the art thicknessgages, you can easily detect the thickness of nonmagnetic coating on a magnetic substrate (ferrous) or an insulating coating on a non-magneticconductive substrate (non-ferrous) utilizing either an integrated probe or our version that comes with an external probe. The PHASE II PTG-3500 canbe used in many areas of industry including manufacturing, general engineering, commercial inspection, etc.The PTG-3500 utilizes an integrated probe that can automatically detect a Ferrous or Non-Ferrous substrate and comes with 2 substratesamples(steel, aluminum), 4 calibrated thickness samples, carry case, batteries and operation manual.
