Custom AssessmentsTo support our assessment programs, instructional resources, and online tools, CORE ECS® employs research professionals to build and create customized assessments for state-wide and local education agencies. These content-area experts use a proven set of innovative research protocols to create custom solutions that involve the design and development of activities, assignments, methodologies, pedagogies and instructional practices.

Research & DevelopmentOur process for building Custom Assessments begins with initial blueprinting and proceeds through the final publishing of an assessment to be deployed in Assessment Center or in aprinted product for tradi-tional paper-and-pencil administration:

The Right Fit for Your State or DistrictCustom Assessments can be tailored to Common Core, state, or local standards for periodic administration that helps prepare students for summative tests and forecasts their Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) perfor-mance throughout the year. These assessments can be developed to mirror state tests in every way, including items written in the same idiom and format and the same varied levels of rigor.

We can also customize a series of unit/chapter tests specifically aligned to curriculum and folded into the instructional schedule. This can be especially useful for districts that are adopting new curriculum and want to closely monitor students' achievement and teacher performance.

Item Response ReportThe Item Response Report displays student-level results for a single assessment in a particular course or grade level. Choose this report to view overall results as well as how students responded to individual assessment items.

ADMINISTRATORSAYP Filters provide administrators with a simple way to drill down and dis-aggregate data appropriate for the assigned hierarchical user level.

Administrators can use this func-tionality to identify opportunities for professional development and curric-ulum adjustments.

EDUCATORS/PARENTSWhen viewing assessments results, the teacher can simply click on a stu-dent’s name to reveal the Student Level Report for deeper analysis.

EDUCATORS/ ASSESSMENT COORDINATORSWhen sorted by standard, the report can reveal performance differences among items from the same standard. This information can be used to further pinpoint specific areas for high-quality corrective instruction.

The most commonly chosen incorrect dis-tractor letter for each item will be in bold type. Easily analyze these answers by selecting the item number to view the item's answer choices. There you will find a rationale to understand the student’s misconceptions of the skill or to determine what items may need validity testing.

Screener AssessmentsMoving beyond proficiency measures, the CORE ECS screeners were developed for administrators who want their teachers to have a deeper view of what level each student is understanding the concepts taught from the curriculum.

CORE ECS's screener assessments allow educators to ascertain, at multiple points during the school year, each student’s strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills. These assessments are conducted prior to and during instruction to determine the following:

The existing knowledge, skills, interests, and/or needs of the student. The range of individual differences

on a calibrated scale. What instructional areas need modifications to meet

the needs of individuals or groups of students .

Research & Development CORE ECS's screener assessments are written to address the standards assessed on the state test in similar pro-portions. But they are designed to measure more varied levels of difficulty throughout the items on the assess-ment. These incremental levels of difficulty help to reveal the student’s cognitive understanding of the concepts within each standard. Results are calculated using pro-prietary algorithms based on item response theory and Rasch models, where the calculation accounts for cor-rect and incorrect responses and for patterns in how the student responds.

The calculation produces a scale score to better cap-ture where the student is in his/her understanding of the concepts. The results focus on where the student is and how to progress forward.

The Right Fit for Your State or DistrictCORE ECS's screener assessments are generally used in states or districts that may already have a benchmark/standard assessment solution that is discovering skill gaps, but which is not providing the level of detail that educators need to effectively pinpoint interventions. Alternatively, local education providers may want to use Screener Assessments nimbly to enable timely, tar-geted instruction.

Universal ScreenersThese are brief assessments used to identify students who may be at risk for difficulties in a broad range of curriculum-based skills in different subject areas and grade levels. Their primary purpose is to predict for teachers which of their students may need additional instruction in order to meet their grade-level goals.

Subject Areas and Grades Covered English/Language Arts, Math E/LA: Grades 2-12; Math: grades 3-8 Administration Format and Frequency 3 per year: fall, winter and spring 40 minutes per assessment

Reading/Algebra Readiness ScreenersA set of predictive off-the-shelf assessments that are used as a diagnostic readiness measure to identify early intervention opportunities in reading and alge-bra. Thus, teachers can act quickly to prepare students with the fundamental building blocks they will need for mastering these critical concepts.

ipGrowth® AssessmentsThe genesis of ipGrowth is reflective of the national momentum in growth measurement created in large part by rigorous Race to the Top requirements. Through advanced features within the Assessment Center platform, ipGrowth provides educators with the capability to administer a series of adaptive tests that track students' cognitive growth and instructional effect over time. Using ipGrowth reports, educators gain a clear understanding of how to appropriately target differentiated instruction and measure the outcomes on an individual, continual basis.

Inside the Process The ipGrowth test generation engine is designed based on the assumption that schools provide grade level instruction equivalent to the grade level assigned to the student.

Thus, using the grade level assigned to the student by the school system’s Student Information System (SIS), the ipGrowth test generator initially develops a test for the student that would be an appropriate range of test items, one that maximizes the information gained on the student’s ability. Then, for each subse-quent administration of ipGrowth, the test generator uses the previous iscale score to generate a test com-posed of items distributed around the identified ability estimate of the student (thus a measure of continual growth can take place).

The Right Fit for Your State or DistrictThe ipGrowth model is the ideal metric for invoking stu-dent-teacher and student-parent conversations around achievement goal aspirations, whether they are tied to summative test criteria, RTI improvement, or col-lege-readiness standards. Additionally, the ipGrowth scale score is a robust and ultra-informative metric in

the hands of district administrators who may use it to measure effectiveness of instruction, programs and learning environments.

Shortly after implementation, district officials will observe changed conversations around student achieve-ment, teacher effect and instructional relevance. Because ipGrowth is designed to measure a wide range of stu-dent abilities, the growth model may prove to be a cost-saving replacement for various disjointed tests used by the district to determine qualifications for gifted/talented programs, RtI, ELL, and other programs such as special education.

Assessment CenterFormative Assessment Made SimpleWith Assessment Center, we offer a platform not only proven at scale with millions of students and hundreds of thousands of educators, but also proven in the classroom to help save time, provide meaningful data and inform instructional practices. Educators can even create assessments and share them with other educators within their school or share them across an entire district. In short, Assessment Center represents an end-to-end formative assessment platform specifically designed to enable efficient discovery of critical information about student progress toward benchmark learning goals throughout the year.

Assessment Center Features: Step-by-step custom test creation Online and traditional paper-and-pencil delivery Automated scoring Comprehensive reporting for all stakeholders Item authoring tools Instructional resources Flexible live and online training options

Easy ImplementationAssessment Center demonstrates a clear capacity to handle tremendous volume and support any local or state education agency, but the infrastructure demands of our system for schools are minimal: only a nominal number of Internet-connected computers (at least one per school for paper-and-pencil delivery) are required. Online delivery requires that students access a com-puter, while the paper-and-pencil modality requires no hardware for students.

Platform OnlyIn some cases, districts have been using their own pro-prietary assessments for years that they want to keep in tact, but they are ready to move to a new assess-ment management system. We can import existing assessments into Assessment Center and let the dis-trict take complete control of managing and deploying assessments.

ClickerCenterClickerCenter is the student-response device software and management application for Assessment Center. Assessments can be printed from Assessment Center and handed out to students, or projected on a screen in the classroom for test administration with their assigned clicker.

ClickerCenter Compatibility: Promethean LRS eInstruction SMART Technologies

Item Authoring ToolsAssessment Center also provides tools allowing for local item authoring creation by educators and administra-tors. Items can be created and aligned to specific state or Common Core standards directly within the online interface, using a simple guided process.

I t e m a u t h o r i n g i n Assessment Center allows users to use simple, word processor to create items, al ign them to stand-ards, and import graphics as needed.

Item and Test Performance Review Using PsyStat PsyStat is a reporting option that operates within Assessment Center to create psychometric reports providing classical statistics that describe the perfor-mance of test items administered through Assessment Center. Much more comprehensive than competing products, upon the completion of a test administration, PsyStat automatically generates meaningful item and test reliability statistics along with criterion alerts that instantly inform district officials that an item requires deletion or modification.

PsyStat identifies and flags poorly functioning items when they are too easy or too difficult for the tested population or when they do not discriminate suffi-ciently between high and low performers.

SimpleToday’s special education administrators are required to be increasingly accountable for the support pro-vided to children with special needs. Yet, time spent preparing lengthy reports and training to use compli-cated systems could instead be spent managing the effectiveness of the support received.

The Bright IDEA® intuitive user interface was specifi-cally designed to decrease the time required to update student information, generate reports and manage data, while increasing overall productivity. It can eas-ily support data management and federal compliance reporting requirements with minimal training or start-up periods for the average user.

PowerfulSpecial education providers must be able to satisfy the complex task of meeting the individual needs of each student, beginning with the initial screening process and ending with the delivery of services. The chal-lenge for today’s administrators is that each student’s needs are different; at any given time administrators are managing numerous students in various stages of receiving support.

The key to sustaining productivity in this type of environment is to ensure that the right data are incor-porated into the support system in a way that facilitates the management of large groups of students with indi-vidual needs. Powerful features of Bright IDEA, such as its graphical process-flow displays, IEP generation and validation, centralized data collection, Medicaid billing capabilities and customizable alerts help keep educa-tors and administrators informed at all times.

CompliantStates and school districts have unique requirements for meeting compliance guidelines. Rather than prescribe a “one size fits all” approach to compliance, Bright IDEA acknowledges local differences and allows administra-tors to set up alerts within the system when deviations from typical processes occur. This in turn triggers inter-vention at the required time, without locking local users into an inflexible process that hinders their ability to complete their daily demands. In the event users gen-erate errors requiring correction, administrators can easily reverse and resolve all inaccuracies to ensure compliance guidelines are met.

FlexibleChanges in law, regulations, or policies are frequent and inevitable and can often have a dramatic impact on the individuals and processes that support the special edu-cation system. Applications that are difficult and costly to update make an already challenging role that much more difficult. The Bright IDEA form designer makes it easy for special education administrators to keep up with these changes. Administrators can generate forms based on their own state or local standards, custom-ize them to meet federal reporting needs and deploy them all from right within the Bright IDEA application.

What Is the Importance of an Education-focused Service Provider? At CORE ECS®, we believe that it is very important to find a provider that is focused on the education mar-ket. There are specific aspects of the CORE ECS service model that are tailored to fit the needs education pro-viders, such as:

Employee Screening for a Highly Secure Environment Specialized Systems to Provide

Business Intelligence Reports Consulting to Assist in Developing Best Practices Flexible Systems for both Staff Augmentation

and Substitute Management Access to Subject Matter Experts

Employee Screening for Highly Secure EnvironmentsWhat should be more secure than a K-12 school or uni-versity? In our opinion, we hold the compliance and screening aspects of our process above all other aspects of our business. At CORE ECS, we are able to screen staff to a level that is commensurate with the internal process used at the educational institution we are providing staff to. Our screening capabilities are very extensive, span-ning criminal background screening, FBI fingerprinting, drug testing, driver’s license screening, education con-firmations, sex offender screens, and much more. Again, our vetting process will match the expectations a cli-ent has of their own internal hiring process.

Business Intelligence Reporting and Best Practice ConsultingBecause our systems have been tailored to fit the needs of educational clients, we track metrics that are impor-tant to the educational industry. Clients can expect our team to provide interpretation of their staff augmenta-tion spending and make suggestions of best practices based on our knowledge of the industry. Our reporting and business intelligence consulting has helped many of our clients significantly reduce staffing spending

by addressing business problems or internal manage-ment issues at the customer level that were identified through a consultative approach.

Flexible Systems for both Staff Augmentation and Substitute ManagementThe process of managing standard staff augmenta-tion versus managing a large transactional business such as substitute staffing is significantly different. Our portal-based systems are very flexible and facilitate both solutions in a single, fluid interface.

Access to Subject Matter ExpertsUnderstanding the business of education is very impor-tant. At CORE ECS, we are well versed in the terminology and systems used in education at both the K-12 and higher education levels. The CORE ECS staff is well equipped, with a healthy mix of former educators and business experience in the education sector. Over the years, our team of consultants and staff augmentation specialists has grown to include true subject-matter experts. CORE ECS has a demonstrated track record of recruiting SMEs throughout the US and internationally.

Asset PreparationPersonalize and protect your IT assets through CORE ECS®’ imaging, etching and asset tagging services. These services are available both on-site or off-site.

Color & Laser Etching:Our color and laser-etching services ensure the secu-rity of your computer equipment. Your personalized logo can be etched directly on any laptop or desk-top computer using our high-powered laser etching equipment. The resulting image will forever brand your computer to your organization. Using color etching inks that bond with the composition of the computer case, your personalized logo and recovery information is applied directly to laptops, desktops, towers, moni-tors and laptop bags.

These security techniques act as a theft deterrent. Unlike security software that can be removed by replac-ing a hard drive, the etched image is permanent. Using this method for recovery of stolen items has proven to be successful for local police departments.

Imaging:Adjusting computer settings and installing required software across all the computers in your organiza-tion would be a painstaking task, requiring many man hours if done manually.

CORE ECS will create and apply an image to your com-puters using your licensed software. Fully equipped imaging tables in our own warehouse allow efficient installation of software and settings prior to delivery to your building. Additionally, on-site imaging, at your facility, is available if preferred. Let us do everything for you, and you will receive your new, ready-for-use com-puters with no down-time for users.

Asset Tagging:No matter how an organization maintains its assets, it needs some system in place to identify those items as property of the organization, tracking to whom assets are assigned and where they are allocated, as well as any maintenance performed on those assets. The simplest and least expensive way to do this is with a numbered and bar-coded asset tag, which declares that an item belongs to the organization, and facilitates the track-ing process of the asset.

CORE ECS can create and apply bar-coded asset tags for your equipment, prior to installation, including your personalized logo, contact information, and anything else your organization requires.

Professional Services

Our company understands the critical role that pro-fessional services play in the ability to reduce costs, increase operational efficiency, rapidly deploy new IT services and mitigate the risk of failure. We leverage our growing team of certified engineers and experienced architects to deliver best-in-class professional services across each of our focused disciplines:

Datacenter assessment, design and deployment Server virtualization

Datacenter Assessment, Design and DeploymentThe datacenter provides information that is likely the lifeblood of your organization. Our team leverages its deep knowledge of customer environments, IT ven-dor products and deployment best practices to help customers understand how well current systems are performing, design systems that either complement or replace existing technologies, and support the deploy-ment of those IT infrastructure components for our install base.

We have the ability to assess your organization’s com-puting, network, and data-management infrastructures by documenting performance, validating functionality,

and mapping the current environment. Our team then compares acquired data against performance, security, management, scalability, and continuous operations best practices. Finally, we provide customers with an indepth view of their technology, along with obser-vations and recommendations for improvements. We specialize in helping customers understand where they are, architecting the path to the future and managing the deployment of the solution. In short, we work with you to design and deploy your IT bridge to the future.

Server VirtualizationThe business and technical benefits of server virtual-ization has the industry looking to this technology as a way to cut costs, optimize utilization, and reduce server deployment times. The CORE Virtualization Team, whose members average over eight years of experi-ence, is steep in its ability to support the full lifecycle of server virtualization environments, whether your organization is just getting started or looking to get the most out of a current virtualization infrastructure.

Our holistic model begins with a fully-virtualized, hardened infrastructure housed in one of the industry’s most secure data centers, and it extends through a comprehensive suite of services targeted at addressing a focused set of customer issues.

Database SupportDatabase technology today is a little more compli-cated than the simple, old-fashioned index card file. Everything from student records to financials reside in some sort of database these days. CORE ECS’ DBA Professional Services Group will take you to the next level of service with custom development, complete tuning services, even advanced features such as clus-tering and high-availability structures.

Help DeskInstead of expending your efforts to expand your IT staff, let CORE ECS’ IT Help Desk manage and staff your help-desk for you. VirtualizationWant to save on the cost of your desktop computers? You will dramatically reduce the cost of expanding your IT infrastructure.

Our strategy is focused on the deployment of essential Cloud-Based Services:

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)

The Gartner Group estimates that over 80% of desktops deployed after 2012 will be virtual. We are able to help cus-tomers slash both capital and operational expenditures NOW, by deploying virtual desktops on a variety of platforms. Our solutions range from workgroup deployments through multi-campus staged rollouts.

Collaboration Services

Email is a critical resource for keeping distributed workforces aligned and focused. CORE ECS offers two best-in-class solutions: Hosted VMware Zimbra™ and Hosted Microsoft® Exchange®. To help organizations manage some of the issues associated with cyber security, CORE ECS bases its email solution on Zimbra combined with collaborative layered security and filtering tech-nologies, delivering a truly safe environment for collaboration.

Backup for Recovery Services

It’s not enough to simply backup data. Meeting recovery time objectives for a single file or after a natural/manmade event, can be the difference between success and failure. We leverage best in class data-protection solutions that perform applica-tion specific backups and client-side deduplication to optimize the time to backup and recovery. We know where your data is, PHYSICALLY, and will protect it like it was our own. Your data never leaves our shores.

Virtual Data Center Services

For those customers needing the convenience of rapidly-deployable, virtual-computing platforms, CORE ECS is providing customers the same computing resources used to run our own in-house, mission-critical applications. Instead of the low cost route, we chose the high-value solution that provides custom-ers the functionality that mission-critical workloads require.
