Standardization is a standout featureof Link-Belt Bucket Elevators. Link-Belt Type 1 and Type 7 BucketElevator designs are standardized soyou benefit from the economics of

Two basic designs of bucketelevators are available, and selectiondepends primarily on the material tobe handled.
The Centrifugal Discharge designhas spaced buckets that travel at arelatively high speed. It is a mediumcapacity unit, capable of handlingmaterials with small-to-medium size
lumps. The buckets dig the materialfrom the casing boot section anddischarge it by centrifugal force.
Type 1- Elevators of this type meetthe service requirements of themajority of installations usingcentrifugal discharge elevators. Thehead shafts are fixed, with the footshaft takeup being internal gravitytype. Buckets are designed for useon either chain or belt.
For most applications, chain is
recommended, however, belting isused when handling materials thatmust not be contaminated or formaterials that are extremely abrasiveand corrosive.
As an alternate to the standardType 1 centrifugal dischargedesign, Type 2 design isavailable. The head shaft isadjustable and the boot shaftfixed to maintain the relationshipof buckets to the inlet spout andcurved bottom plate. Type 2bucket elevators are
recommended when handlingfood products; for materials thattend to pack or build-up, or whenhandling materials having alarge percentage of lumps.
The Continuous Discharge Designhas buckets mounted continuouslythat travel at a much slower speed.The continuous discharge designelevator handles a variety ofmaterials from fines to large lumps.Materials that are difficult to pick inthe casing boot section or friable arenormally handled in this type
elevator. The buckets are fed directlyfrom a loading leg or chute and areemptied by gravity at the dischargepoint.
Type 7-This elevator is the mostfrequently used of the continuousdischarge design. The head shaftsare fixed, with foot shaft takeupsbeing internal gravity type. Bucketsare steel and spaced continuouslyon a strand of chain.
As an alternate to the standardType 7 continuous discharge
design, the Type 8 design isavailable. The head shaft isadjustable and the foot shaft isfixed. Type 8 elevators are usedfor the handling of fine orcrushed materials with lumpsnot exceeding

/ 2 inch. With theaddition of a loading leg and acorrespondingly higher inletspout, this type elevator canalso be used for handling lumpsup to 4

Prior to the selection of a Link-Belt™
Bucket Elevator, all specifications ofthe application and conditions of theinstallation should be reviewed. As aguide to be used in selecting themost efficient and economical Link-Belt™ Bucket Elevator for anapplication, the following outline isoffered:

Chain recommended for all elevators except those marked, where beltsare recommended. To avoid damage to belt, provide foot shafts with weldedsteel wing pulleys where there is a tendency for material to pack between belt and pulley.
Weight of material loose or slightly agitated. This weight is generally less
than that of settled or packed material, as in bins or containers. Select an elevator having twice the capacity required.

In selection of quality components,FMC Technologies engineers have,based upon laboratory tests, takeninto consideration the critical speedof operation that exists with bucketelevators. The critical speed ofoperation is the speed at which theactual capacity of the elevator dropsbelow the theoretical capacity, andexists when the centrifugal force atthe mass center of the material inthe bucket is equal to thegravitational force on the material. AllLink-Belt™ centrifugal type dischargebucket elevators operate below thecritical speed.

High-capacity continuous dischargebucket elevator . . . with overlapping
arrangement of buckets to handle avariety of materials from fines tolarge lumps. The Type 7 bucketelevator is the most frequently usedof the continuous discharge styles,with material loaded directly into thebucket through a loading leg, thatconfines the feed and preventsspillage into the boot.
The continuous discharge bucketelevator travels at a much slowerspeed than its counterpart, thecentrifugal discharge bucket
elevator. Standard operating speedis 125 fpm. When handling light orfluffy-type material, operatingspeeds of 160-175 fpm arecommon. When bulk material isabrasive, operating speeds arenormally reduced for longercomponent life.

Link-Belt™ Elevator Buckets aredesigned in a variety of types andsizes to efficiently handle bulkmaterials in centrifugal dischargeand continuous bucket elevators.Buckets are either constructed offormed steel, cast, or molded withnylon or polyethelene. Castbuckets are available in ductileron, Promal, or ductile iron withFlint-Lip hardened digging lips.
Ductile iron is the most commonlyused material in cast bucketsbecause of its ability to withstand
the effects of abrasion andstresses during digging. Promal is
a pearlitic malleable with highertensile and fatigue strength andyield point than ductile iron. Promalalso has a greater resistance toabrasive wear. Ductile iron elevatorbuckets with Flint-Lip provideincreased wear life when handlingabrasive materials. Elevatorbuckets can also be furnished inmild steel, abrasion-resistant steel,stainless steel and aluminum.

Type AA-RB Centrifugal Discharge Elevator Bucketsare made of ductile iron or Promal and are identical withType AA buckets, except the back edges are thicker toprovide greater resistance to distortion. The wide digginglip and vertical reinforcing ribs on the front enable thesebuckets to withstand rough service. For increased wearlife when handling abrasive materials, buckets can befurnished with hardened lips.
Type SC Centrifugal Discharge Elevator Buckets aremade of ductile iron for mounting on chains or belts.They are suitable for handling dry or relatively wetmaterials at greater capacities than Type AA buckets.The buckets are smooth, seamless and uniformly cast to
resist abrasive wear, corrosion and rust.

Type HFO Continuous Elevator Buckets are made ofwelded steel for mounting on chains or belts. They havethe same high front as Type HF buckets, but in addition,are overlapping to prevent leakage between buckets.Bevel washers are recommended to avoid interference ofadjacent buckets. The smooth interior allows the materialto be easily and quickly discharged. Buckets are offormed and welded steel construction. The front plates
