Rugged Oil/Water Interface Meters

When working in hazardous or explosive environments, use the certified intrinsically safe Rugged Interface Me-ter or Rugged Mini Interface Meter.Ideal for remediation sites, oil refineries, and landfills, these meters accurately measure the thickness of hydro-carbon product layers (LNAPL) as thin as 1 mm (1/200 ft) floating on the water table and sinking layers (DNAPL).

• Meters: Both full-size and backpack-size meters are available. The economical Rugged Mini Interface Meter is ideal for shallow wells or high water tables.

• Probe: The field-replaceable probe includes a lens and infrared light emitter. A stainless steel shield protects the lens. The infrared light emitter sends a beam of light through the lens to a detector, which identifies conductive liquid (water) and non-con-ductive liquid (product). A solid tone and solid light indicate oil. An intermittent tone and a flashing light indicate water.

• Tape: ASME-certified tape is constructed of high-tensile steel with yellow tape jacketed in clear Kynar® coating. Kynar protects tape from hydro-carbons, solvents, and other harsh contaminants. Graduated in meters by mm or in feet by 0.01 foot.

• Intrinsically safe: Grounding cable ensures safety at hazardous sites. Certified to CSA and ANSI/UL standards. Class 9098-01 for hazardous locations. Class 9098-81 (U.S.A.) for hazardous sites. Class I groups A, B, C, and D.

• Electronics: To conserve battery life, the meter shuts off after 5 minutes of inactivity.

Rugged Conductivity/Level/Tempera-ture MeterAccurately measure conductivity, water level, and tem-perature in wells, boreholes, and open bodies of water. Use this meter to profile conductivity and temperature.• Probe: To measure conductivity, the probe uses a four-electrode system that includes two arraysof a single electrode within a concentric electrode. Each array reverses its polarity 1,000 times/second. This system reduces corrosion of the electrode to ensure reproducible readings. Water levelis detected when the probe passes from a non-conduc-tive medium (air) to a conductive medium(water with conductivity levels greater than 10 μS/cm).

• Tape: ASME-certified tap is constructed of high-tensile steel with easy-to-read yellow tape jacketed in medium-density polyethylene to ensure longev-ity. Graduated in meters by mm or in feet by 0.01 foot. The tape is potted directly into the probe (sac-

rificial security link is not available on this meter).

• Electronics: Electronics module houses an LCD screen that displays conductivity values up to 80,000 μS/cm, and temperature from -20 to 85° C (-4 to 185° F). Module includes a bright red LED and a buzzer. To conserve battery life, the meter shuts off after 5 minutes of inactivity.

Field-Ready Design• Superior tape construction improves accuracy and du-rability. Choose from high-tensile steel tape with poly-ethylene jacket, or high-tensile steel tape with hydro-carbon-resistant Kynar® coating, or Kevlar®-reinforced polyethylene tape.• Reels stand up to field use. Durable flanges are con-structed of impact- and UV-resistant nylon. Polyure-thane-coated steel frame and stainless steel axle in-crease longevity.• Easy-to-clean, submersible stainless steel and Teflon®-coated probe resists buildup of contaminants and dirt.• Sacrificial security link prevents tape damage and preserves tape integrity. The security link releases the probe if it becomes trapped in the well.

Accurate Measurements• For reproducible measurements, high-tensile steel tapes are ASME compliant (EU Class II). Both high-ten-sile tapes and Kevlar®-reinforced polyethylene tapes re-sist stretching under heavy loads.• Tape scales are designed to ensure long life and read-ability. Conduct ISCO, ISCR, Biosparging, Air Sparging & More The TROLL® 9500 Instrument supports real-time measurement of performance indicators, which allows for a dynamic work strategy per the EPA Triad Approach to site remediation. You can adapt to changing condi-tions as new data becomes available. This allows you to complete projects more quickly and at a lower cost than when using traditional approaches. The TROLL 9500:

• Features sub-2 inch configuration for key param-eters: DO with the RDO® Sensor, conductivity, pH/ORP, temperature, and barometric pressure

• Deploys in harsh conditions. The corrosion-resistant housing is suitable for many remediation applica-tions.

• Reduces grab sampling and labor costs while im-proving safety when working with treatment chem-icals Improves performance and reduces mainte-nance when deployed with the RDO Sensor

• Connects to the TROLL® Link Telemetry System for remote access and external power

You can use the TROLL 9500 System with Flow-Sense Software to conduct low-flow purging and sampling. You will collect representative samples, minimize contaminant volatilization, and reduce hazardous waste disposal. To improve efficiency in the field, the system:• Automates collection of well and

pumping information• Monitors and records stabilization of key

water quality parameters• Automatically generates defensible

calibration and sample reports hat conform to federal and regional regulations

• Eliminates transcription time and errors

Automated Test SetupFlow-Sense Software retains all project information—well data, pump performance specifics, tubing details, pumping rate, stabilized drawdown, and parameter sta-bilization criteria. You can quickly access site informa-tion at subsequent sampling events without reentering data.in-Situ® Sync Software automatically copies well records and data between a computer and a RuggedReader® Handheld PC.

Automated Data CollectionStabilization criteria are set for each monitored param-eter. Data collection intervals are defined by time or pumped volumes. During sampling, software calculates and displays variance and targets for each parameter. Data is logged at pre-determined intervals and stabili-zation is achieved when readings meet variation crite-ria. In addition, you can view data numerically or graphi-cally.

Automated Test Report GenerationAfter stabilization, stored data can be exported into Ex-cel®. Flow-Sense Software automatically generates full calibration and sample reports that conform to federal and regional regulations. To save time, simply reuse templates at subsequent sampling events.

RDO PRO Optical Technology

The second generation RDO sensor measures dis-solved oxygen (DO) using the principle of “dynam-ic luminescence quenching.” TheRDO sensor uses lifetime-based optical fluores-cence technology to provide an extremely stable, accurate, low-maintenance DO sensor.

Sensor optics include a lens, blue LED and filter, red LED and filter, and a photodiode. When the blue LED emits light, it causes the lumiphore mol-ecules embedded in the gas-permeable sensing foil to emit red photons.

The RDO sensor measures the “phase” (or delay) of the returned signal compared to the excitation signal, and is thus based on the “lifetime” rather than the “intensity” of the luminescence. The presence of oxygen in the foil quenches the luminescence and causes a phase shift in the re-turned signal, detected by the photodiode. The phase difference between the blue excitation light and the return red light is measured, and the result is used to quantify DO.

RDO PRO Offerings• Use in conjunction with the Con TROLL®

PRO system or with SCADA/PLC systems• Flexible power requirements—Uses 8 to

36 VDC input• Integrated, open-architecture commu-

nication protocols—Includes industry standard Modbus communications over RS485; SDI-12, version 1.3; or 4-20 mA, 3-wire current loop

• Compliance certified—CE, FCC Class B heavy industrial immunity and emissions certifications
