• MSFS-MaximumSafeFreeSpeed(RPM)isthemaximumspeedatwhichthebrushesmaybeusedsafelyandisnotnecessarilytheoptimumspeedforagivenapplication.Operatingspeedshouldbedeterminedbytheapplication,butshouldnotexceedtheMSFS(RPM)forwhichthebrushisrated.

Weiler'scompletelineofstainlesssteelbrushesaremadeusingType302stainlesssteelwire.Thiswirewasdevelopedtoprovidelongbrushlifeandcorrosionresistance.Usingastainlesssteelbrushwhenbrushingaluminum,stainlesssteelandotherhighstrengthalloyseliminatesthedangerof“afterrust”.Whenthesealloysarebrushedwithcarbonsteelwire,adepositofcarbonmaterialremainswhichcancauserust.Type302brushwireisaustenitic.

Onceastainlesssteelbrushhasbeenusedoncarbonsteel,itshouldneverbeusedonstainlesssteelsincerustingcanoccur.Toavoidcontamination,allstainlessbrushesshouldbestoredawayfromareas(suchassteelworkbenches)wherecarbonsteelparticlesmightcomeincontactwiththebrush.

Itisrecommendedthatastainlesssteelsurfacebepassivatedwithasolutionof10-20%nitricacid,afterbrushing,toensureitsresistancetocorrosion.

Moststainlesssteeltypeslookalike.HowcanyoudeterminewhetherornotyoureallyhaveType302stainlesssteelwireinyourbrush?Stainlesssteelwirehasmagneticpropertiesasaresultofthewiredrawingprocess.Type302stainlesswirewillloseitsmagneticpropertiesifawirestrandisheatedredwithamatch.Ifthewirestrandretainsitsmagneticpropertiesafterheating,itisnotType302.
