Truck owners may simply upgrade the exhaust tubing itself to a larger size, not realizing that airflow restriction is happening before the exhaust gasses even reach that point. The cast exhaust manifolds available from ATS Diesel are a great way to expand airflow and reduce restriction while eliminating the weak spots which are found with the stock exhaust manifolds. As the diesel engine performs its job, the temperature of the exhaust manifold sees rapid shifts from hot to cool, and the metal experiences a substantial amount of expansion and contraction. Due to a thinner wall structure and lower-grade materials used for casting on such a large scale, the heating and cooling cycles eventually cause the factory manifold to crack. Once the manifold is cracked, the exhaust gasses which power the turbo begin to escape and cause inefficiency.
