Dear Edge Patrons, I’ll never forget reading Stephen King’s Misery in the 80’s and thinking, “this would make a great play.” Well, wouldn’t you know, in the early 90’s it was finally adapted for the stage and although the script was a little weak, I was excited to be able to direct it because I was such a fan of the book. Years later and with a newly adapted script by William Goldman, who wrote the screenplay, it opened on Broadway starring Laurie Metcalfe (who received a Tony nomination for Best Actress) and Bruce Willis. The new script moved faster and was much stronger and tighter than the previous one and, once again, I found myself lucky enough to get the chance to direct it. On top of all that I was able to work with an incredibly talented cast and crew to make it happen.

Don’t even think about relaxing, but please enjoy the show.

Currently serving as the Associate Artistic Director at The Edge Theatre, Mr. Sherrill studied Performing Arts at Colorado State University and has since directed, produced and acted in numerous productions in Denver and along the Front Range. In 2000 he cofounded Denver’s critically acclaimed Paragon Theatre and served as its Artistic Director until the company closed its doors in 2012. Among other awards, Mr. Sherrill won the 2007 Henry Award for Best Director of a Play for Paragon’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf? and in 2011 was awarded Denver Westword’s Best Director of a Drama for Paragon’s The Sound of a Voice. At the The Edge, Mr. Sherrill recently directed the well-received productions of Jerusalem (for which he won an Edgy for Best Director) and Medea and Burn This and will direct A Delicate Balance for The Edge later this year. Mr. Sherrill was recently honored with a prestigious True West Award for his contributions to Denver theatre in 2016.
