The need for Integration
Quadratic Complexity, very
bad long-term manageability
Each and every
connection is a different
project
Enormous
dependency on the
availability of
people
“in the know”
A “creeping curse”: first you integrate 2 systems,
then 3, then 4,… then you’re in trouble! → plan
ahead for structured integration!

CoZo ( Collaboratief ZorgPlatform )
• The ‘Collaboratief ZorgPlatform’ is a collaboration initiative
between 25 hospitals and general practitioners
organizations.
• It is organized by the Department of Health and the national
‘eHealth’ project.
• This initiative emerged from a collaboration between
hospitals in the Ghent area ( GZO : Gents Ziekenhuis Overleg)
• Cozo allows a simple and quick overview of past and current
patient letters, patient reports, laboratory reports, digital
images, results of medical procedures

CoZo ( Collaboratief ZorgPlatform ) development
• The source of the information sent to CoZo is ADT related
data (Admission, Discharge and Transfert ) presented in HL7
standard.
• The messages sent to CoZo must be in a Kmehr format.
• The format and structure of the Kmehr messages is defined in
the ‘Cookbook’.
9
CoZo ( Collaboratief ZorgPlatform ) development
• Use cases
• Initially provide historical patient information over the last 3 years (ADT movements over the last 3 years).
• Sending of the day-to-day ADT messages.
• Initially provide the reference data (Ward information, Service, Healthcare party, Campus).
• Sending updates of the reference data.
• Sending the ‘ informed patient consent’ and maintaining this information.
• Reception of requests for ‘extended patient information’ and specificrequests on reference data. As a response the actual reference data is returned to CoZo.
• Pass-through function for all requests of data that are not ADT specific but reside in other hospital systems (e.g. C2M).
18
CoZo ( Collaboratief ZorgPlatform ) Project findings
• All of the functionalities requested were handled with
Ensemble, so no additional tools or programming required.
• Most of the work is put in analyzing the source data and
mapping the HL7 format of the data with the Kmehr format.
• Ensemble facilitates easy testing by providing a detailed
overview of the flow of messages.
• A lot of alerting is out of the box, still additional alerting can
be easily integrated when requested.
