The Husband & Wife Team @Sea to Sky RemovalBy Isaac Yuen
THE DYNAMIC DUO OF CHRIS & CINCI When it comes to
understanding the needs of the construction industry, Chris Arkell
is an old pro. Utilizing his two decades of building experience,
Arkell decided to found Sea to Sky Removal with a specific mission:
To change the industry’s waste disposal practices.
Cinci Csere originally got into the waste removal business to
support her husband Chris (and to see him once in awhile!) But the
more she learned about the industry, the more she became passionate
about the need to divert needless waste from the landfill.
“If you’ve never been to the landfill, go. I promise it will
make you think twice about what goes into your bin.”
-Cinci Csere
A COMPREHENSIVE DIVERSION SOLUTIONSea to Sky Removal (S2SR) is
the first hauling company in Canada to implement an award-winning
system of on-site recycling stations that
maximizes the amount of recyclables and reusables diverted from
the landfill.
The concept and setup is simple but effective. Multiple stations
are clearly labelled and allow construction crews to source
separate their materials. S2SR then hand-sorts and live-loads
materials to ensure that everything is taken to the correct
recycling facilities or transfer stations to ensure responsible
diversion and disposal.
Reusable goods and building supplies are donated to non-profits;
S2SR also provides waste audit services so that clients can see the
full impact of their waste reduction efforts.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENTSince the founding of Sea to Sky Removal,
Csere has cultivated a strong online community through Instagram,
Facebook, and Twitter, forging relationships with construction
companies and l ike-minded businesses both locally and
internationally. She is keen to share Sea to Sky Removal’s green
philosophy and vision, and is eager to learn from clients and crews
who are also striving towards more sustainable waste management
practices.

recyclables per pickup.
• Diverted 17 tonnes of glass from a window maker through
Envirocorp Recycling, which turned it into sandblasting media.
• Partnered with North Vancouver’s WCS Recycling to recycle 56

are very close to all trades taking the time to sort things
properly on their own just by us having provided an easy
solution.”
- J. Vendargon, Seneca Homes
“Sea to Sky Removal has quickly become our go-to disposal
company. Their mission to divert as much waste as possible from the

CHALLENGES & OPPORTUNITIESAs a company on a pioneering
mission to change how an entire industry views and handles its
waste streams, Sea to Sky Removal has first-hand experience with
many of the challenges and opportunities on the road towards a zero
waste future.
Csere notes that there are still few options for commercial
recycling of certain plastics, including expanded polystyrene in
the form of sheets and blocks, black spongy foam, plastic banding
and strapping, shrink wrap, Tyvek building wrap, and vapour barrier
poly. Drywall is another material that currently demands a lot of
time and excess transportation costs to properly recycle.
In the future, Csere would like to see either a large central
commercial recycling hub or a larger number of satellite stations
that would make recycling and waste diversion more convenient and
cost-effective. She
would also like to see incentives in the form of lower tipping
fees for pre-sorted loads that are free of recyclables.
“Our clients are now using keywords such as recycling,
deconstruction, donating, and landfill diversion... We feel by
hearing that we’ve made a positive impact.”
-Cinci Csere
DOUBLING DOWNArkell and Csere have been inspired by their
clients’ appreciation to the direction they have taken. The
positive reception motivates them to double-down on their waste
reduction efforts and help clients reduce disposal costs, fulfill
regulatory obligations, and provide unique green selling points to
help their customers and the planet.
