Business Segment Case Study Pinc “The Versant 80 is so much better than the machine we had before. Fuji Xerox has really stepped up to the plate as well.” – Margriet O’Reilly, Co-owner Pinc O’Reilly says, “Fuji Xerox is great to deal with and we are a happy that we have made the change. Our Fuji Xerox sales rep Reuben is a really good guy who has taken the time to understand our business. Mark, the other Fuji Xerox rep who we work with is also really nice and really helpful. It gives us confidence to have the backing of these people. Fuji Xerox really gets what we do. BOUTIQUE PRINTING WHILE Pinc offers commercial digital printing, its growth has come from its willingness to engage in different projects. For example, the company recently completed some wedding invitations that included an unlabelled LP record of cheesy love songs that the recipient was to bring to the reception to create a bit of a lucky dip play list. Pinc created a cover for the album, which contained the wedding invitation. Margriet O’Reilly says, “We really enjoy the high end invitations and business card side of the business. This gives us a chance to experiment with design and print production. We recently installed a small Mutoh cutter, which we got through Fuji Xerox. PINC GROWS INTO PRINT WITH FUJI XEROX VERSANT A Rodney-based design company has successfully expanded into printing with Fuji Xerox technology and support. Pinc, a boutique graphic design and print studio, has found strong demand for its services after its owners made the decision to commit more fully to the business. A few years ago, Margriet O’Reilly worked as a successful graphic designer, enjoying her work and the business. She says, “It was just me and my computer and my printer for a long time.” However, after O’Reilly took advantage of the offer of a business that owned some foiling machines, her business started to grow at a pace and she had to bring her husband Conan on board. She says, “Conan agreed to lend a hand and he learned to run the foiling machine. He eventually quit his job in the Air Force and came into the business full-time.” From their base on Auckland’s Hibiscus Coast, the O’Reillys now create a range of printed products. Business has taken off. They started with Fuji Xerox about a year ago. Their old digital printer needed replacing and they decided on a Fuji Xerox Versant 80. The upgrade has paid off. She says, “The Versant 80 is so much better than the machine we had before. Fuji Xerox has really stepped up to the plate as well. The Versant does what it is meant to do and it does it well.” OUTSIZE CAPABILITIES The Fuji Xerox Versant 80 offers a diverse range of capabilities that seem to exceed its size and price. For example, it prints in full colour at speeds up to 80 ppm, handling a range of media from 52 to 350 gsm at 2400 x 2400dpi resolution. It offers a paper capacity of 5,900 sheets 330 x 488/SRA3 via standard trays and a high capacity feeder. The printer offers many of the features of Fuji Xerox’s larger presses including Fogra certification; Gracol compliance; Pantone matching system, EA low melt toner technology. The integrated Fiery server offers a range of colour tools, workflow capabilities, processing speeds, and colour management controls with enhanced RIP speeds at 1200 x 1200 x10-bit. Pretty pleased in Pinc: Margriet and Conan O’Reilly have used the Fuji Xerox Versant to grow their business

A Rodney-based design company has successfully expanded into printing with Fuji Xerox technology and support.

Pinc, a boutique graphic design and print studio, has found strong demand for its services after its owners made the decision to commit more fully to the business.

A few years ago, Margriet O’Reilly worked as a successful graphic designer, enjoying her work and the business. She says, “It was just me and my computer and my printer for a long time.”

However, after O’Reilly took advantage of the offer of a business that owned some foiling machines, her business started to grow at a pace and she had to bring her husband Conan on board. From their base on Auckland’s Hibiscus Coast, the O’Reillys now create a range of printed products. Business has taken off. They started with Fuji Xerox about a year

ago. Their old digital printer needed replacing and they decided on a Fuji Xerox Versant 80.

“We can now cut whatever shape we want. Because we have only had it a short time, we are still working on different ways to use it in the business but it has given us greater flexibility and confidence because we can now print and foil and cut shapes that are different from normal.”

In September of last year, Pinc moved into its new premises in Silverdale, just north of Auckland. Growth in the business appears to have come in six monthly increments. She says, “Within six months of purchasing the foil equipment, Conan had to quit his job and; six months after that, we had to employ our first staff member, and we needed another employee six months after that.

“We have a small team and we encourage open communication, which works well. We would like to install more technology from Fuji Xerox as we continue to grow. Conan is excited by the possibilities he sees in the latest machines.”

She concludes, “This whole business has changed and we can keep up with what we have to do. I still get to design beautiful pieces and we see a growing demand for value add printed products.”
