The Challenge ARU were using traditional on-premises infrastructure and configuration methods including Active Directory, Exchange, and MECM. They began migrating infrastructure to cloud based services such as Exchange Online in 2019, however the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 resulted in added complexity with device provisioning. Large numbers of faculty staff switched to remote working and many devices needed replacing during this period, which all needed to be provided to home addresses. The shift to remote working also put the University’s VDI environment under a hugely increased load, leading to performance issues. The Requirement ARU engaged Ultima to propose a full consultancy project to include design, implementation, migration and support. The project needed to modernise the management platform, optimise existing licences, migrate on-premises services to the cloud, provide a Anglia Ruskin University Students: 39,000 Faculty Staff: 1800 Devices: 5000 Sector: Higher Education Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) is an innovative global university with students from 185 countries around the world.
