HOUSING ESTATE CROSSROADSDONCASTER COUNTY COUNCIL EXPRESS ASPHALT DONCASTER

The BackgroundDoncaster County Council contacted Express Asphalt Doncaster to supply a product that would highlight hazardous crossroads on a new housing estate. The housing estates were being built by 3 house builders and compiled of 1800 homes in phase 1, including a new junior school and a large retail park.

The ProblemA single main road runs the length of the new estate with a number of cross roads leading off to the new housing, school and retail park. A major concern of this was that at each crossroad the entrance to the new estates was incomplete leaving a raised edge.

The Solution A meeting took place with Doncaster County Council to select a product to highlight the hazardous cross-roads. Block paving had been used previously however this had deteriorated over a short period of time of 8 weeks.

Three different red colours were considered before the super-colour red asphalt was chosen for it’s colour and durability, which were perfect for the needs of this project. To lessen the impact from trafficking we planed out 80mm to tie-in the red asphalt to the binder course.

During this fast turnaround project, we informed our customers well in advance to reduce impact on the collect trade.

Overall, the feedback from Doncaster County Council has been superb with the next phase being awarded to us to be completed in May 2017.
