Hello all and welcome to July’s edition of Cascade. The last
few weeks have been pretty eventful as you will see as you
read through; certainly, it was a wonderful experience to
be able to see the sheer joy and pride shining through in
individuals at the 2011 Employee Awards Ceremony, and
an absolute pleasure, personally, to be involved in helping
with the Haymaking Festival which was a superbly organ-
ised event, appreciated by many. More good news came in the shape of the
agreement by the boards to go ahead with the Chaucer Homecare integration
with All Seasons, potentially opening up new and exciting possibilities for the
future. Of course there are lots of things going on over the coming weeks and
months, but as a starter for ten, what an exciting month July is already shaping
up to be. Please read on and enjoy this excellent edition YOUR Newsletter.

Monday July 4th 2011 saw the first annual Employee Achievement Awards- an afternoon of cel-
ebration and recognition which rewarded employees for their committed hard work.
All those nominated won £200 and the winners for each category received £750. The Runner
up of the Employee of the Year won £1000 and the overall Employee of the Year won £2000
The afternoon’s events started with a traditional cream tea reception giving staff the oppor-
tunity to catch up with one another and anticipate the results of the day’s ceremony. With an
excellent turn out of attendees the room was soon bustling with chat and laughter as they
awaited the start of the ceremony.
The afternoon ran smoothly with Claudia Sykes giving small speeches on why the event was
being held and what the staff in the room had achieved whilst John Bland got ready to present
each and every employee with their award.
There were seven key categories for the awards ceremony which broke up the nominations.
There were awards for Teamwork, Customer Service, Going the Extra Mile, Contribution To
Business Growth, Personal Development, Best Newcomer and Employee of the Year.
Employee Achievement Awards

The overall winners for the awards were: Amy Chapman, awarded for Teamwork.
Chrissi Martin, awarded for her Customer Service, Christine Prentice our Broadstairs
carer awarded for Going the Extra Mile. Kay Gordon, our Swale coordinator was
awarded for her Contribution to Business Growth. Linda Taylor, our Dover/Deal car-
er was awarded for her Personal Development and Best Newcomer went to Donna
Groombridge our Folkestone carer. All awards were met with great shock and sur-
prise and each award was a tremendous moment for John to thank each employee
for their recognised effort and achievements over the last year.
The final category was the ultimate
accolade- ‘Employee of the Year’.
This is where hard work, loyalty,
dedication and admirable achieve-
ments are recognised. A culmina-
tion of the years efforts which en-
compasses all the awards in one.
Jo Corris was runner up to Employ-
ee of the Year for her fantastic
efforts and professional approach
to work and there was cheers and
applause through-out the room
when Jackie Pettit, our Ramsgate
carer, was named as Employee of
the Year 2010-2011. Jackie is an
outstanding member of staff who
not only has an excellent track rec-
ord but her unquestionable com-
mitment and dedication to her ca-
reer is what really sets her apart.
This award ceremony was an excellent way to personally thank Jackie, and the other
winners for their work and it was a remarkable success.
The afternoon rounded up with photo opportunities and another chance to congratu-
late one another. The event really lifted the spirits of all those who attended and we
look forward to another year with everyone we work with.

Jackie Pettit
Runner up
Jo Corris
Jo has come a long way in her training and has been very
helpful and supportive and is now a very valued member
of staff. She was unanimously voted Runner Up for Em-
ployee of the Year by the whole senior management team,
who commented on her friendliness and professionalism,
as well as her commitment to personal learning and devel-
opment.
Best Newcomer Donna Groombridge
Teamwork
Amy Chapman
As well as her role as an assessor with Learn to.. in which she always
gives feedback or makes other aware of any issues, Amy also helps
out, providing care in the community for All Seasons. The feedback re-
ceived from the clients Amy has visited is always positive and those
who have worked alongside Amy have seen how good her quality of
work is and how well she communicates with her clients.
Donna won this award as she has at times been the
only carer in the Folkestone holding the calls. She
will cover calls on her days off when required and
has always shown exceptional team support.
The Employee of the Year is someone whom we feel re-
flects all of what we want to be as an organisation. Jackie
won Employee of the Year as she has always been an
excellent carer since she joined All Seasons. Jackie even
cooks Christmas dinner for her service users. Her col-
leagues and service users have all noted how she is al-
ways caring and reliable. She is well respected by her col-
leagues and service users alike.

Kay Gordon
Kay is unique in her position as she has built a reputation with the Case Man-
agers in her area based on mutual respect and trust, Kay manages both the
Active Care Force Contract and the Enablement contract in her area, and has
recently been chosen to pilot the complex enablement clients which is seen as
the KCC “jewel in the crown”. Kay services have also now extended to a Sen-
ior Case manager approaching All Seasons to set up Peg feeding training with-
in that area, this entails six carers attending hospital training at the Memorial
Hospital in Sittingbourne, with a view to All Seasons taking on Clients from the-
se hospitals in order for them to return to their own home with Kay and her
team managing their specialist feeding in their home environment. Such is the confidence within
the case management team towards Kay; they have also agreed that we can involve a trainer in
that training.

More than 700 visitors enjoy annual haymaking event Visitors made hay
while the sun shone in Canterbury on 2nd July 2011. A Haymaking
Festival, featuring all things rustic, attracted more than 700 visitors to
Hambrook Marshes.
David Goodwin took his two finest Shire horses from the Isle of Sheppey
to provide a demonstration on traditional grass cutting and the Stour
Valley basket makers showed the crowds how to weave wicker baskets.
Canterbury singer-songwriter Alice Heggie delighted the crowds with her
whimsical strumming and visitors got the chance to ride on the Wheelie
Groover, a bicycle powered machine which played world music.
The festival was organised by Social Enterprise Kent a group of diverse,

pioneering and innovative partner organisations, with shared goals to
support well-being in people’s lives and the communities in which they
live. Each of the partner organisations had stalls and prepared
demonstrations to entertain crowds on the day. This included All Seasons’
care staff running the tea tent, a First Aid tent operated by Learn to …’s
qualified Assessors, providing demonstrations of life saving CPR
techniques.
Organiser Becky Richards said “It was absolutely fantastic. Hundreds of
people turned up, so much so that we ran out of stickers to give to visitors
and lost count! We had lots of musicians who plated for free so I would
like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along.”

Following Board meetings on the 30th July, it has been agreed that Chaucer Homecare Ltd will merge with All Seasons (Kent) Ltd. We are aiming for a completion date of 8th August, subject to certain final legal points being resolved.
This is fantastic news for both organisations, who share a similar commitment and history in providing excellent standards of care to our customers, and in valuing and supporting our staff. It will enable All Seasons to expand into mental health care ser-vices, whilst giving Chaucer the benefits of being in a slightly larger organization. We foresee that this will allow all our staff to have greater career development opportu-nities. No redundancies are expected, as we are aiming to grow the organization in line with our business plans and develop new contracts and private clients.
David Stone will remain as the All Seasons Registered Manager, responsible for domi-ciliary care services. Working alongside him will be Di Killian, who will become the Manager of Specialist Services. Di will be responsible for mental health, dementia care, and our new services, end-of-life care and learning disabilities, as these are de-veloped over the next few months. Other roles will be subject to further announce-ments in the next few weeks.
Over the next month, we will be working hard to align our IT and HR systems and fi-nance reporting, ready for 8th August. During this time, we will continue to have more formal consultations with all staff to ensure everyone is kept fully informed as we pro-gress, and have the opportunity to raise any concerns or questions.
I hope you join with the Boards and senior management teams of both organizations in welcoming this merger, which is a really exciting opportunity for us all.
